"Distant Cousins" original oil still life by Gwen Bell

8 x 6 oil on canvas SOLD

Had so much fun with the Pepper that I thought I'd try
another subject I've been avoiding. Bananas. Early on I
tried to paint bananas but they always looked weird so
I stopped trying. However, during my latest trip to the
market I was gathering fruit and noticed that the pears
and almost ripe bananas were the exact same color. The
desire to capture them overcame my insecurity.

I thought of the title because of the similarity in color and
skin sheen and actually tried several compositions to see
if I could make the pear appear to be growing with the
bananas but that didn't work out so I went for an interesting
shadow combination instead.

The Old Mill Study, Barbara Haviland

#mill,#water,#building,#11x14,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com This painting was part of a study.  We had the photo and I painted it then watched the demo. I always do that.  I like to change my painting up a bit. It is painted on a hardboard panel that has canvas adhered to it.  I have used this method for years. I don't care for the spring of a stretched canvas.  Thanks for viewing my art ~~Barbara Available  GALLERY INFO Barbara Haviland Fine Art 1579 County Road 1010 Woodville, Texas 75979 409-332-0141 Website
