"Morning Shave"..Western, Chuckwagon Series I, watercolor

It's been my privilege to attend a unique competition in the Western culture lately...Chuckwagon cookouts. One of my students is a Grand Champion in this area. I visited his wagon last Saturday & came up with some very interesting photos. This set-up is one of the aspects of judging his wagon outfit. The menu: Southern fried steak, fried potatoes with onions & jalapeno, biscuits, peach cobbler, all cooked on an open fire in cast iron cookware.

Period clothing is also important, as well as camp site layout for the wagon & the equipment. I chose to paint this in watercolor to reflect the vibrant colors of the wagon. Oh, for the "good ol' days"...

The Old Mill Study, Barbara Haviland

#mill,#water,#building,#11x14,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com This painting was part of a study.  We had the photo and I painted it then watched the demo. I always do that.  I like to change my painting up a bit. It is painted on a hardboard panel that has canvas adhered to it.  I have used this method for years. I don't care for the spring of a stretched canvas.  Thanks for viewing my art ~~Barbara Available  GALLERY INFO Barbara Haviland Fine Art 1579 County Road 1010 Woodville, Texas 75979 409-332-0141 Website

Central Fire Station Lake Charles, La Barbara Haviland

CENTRAL FIRE STATION LAKE CHARLES, LA #CentralFireStation,#HIstoric,#Building,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com Central Fire Station  no longer exists in  Lake Charles, La.  I had some old photos that I used to paint this painting.   24"x40"  and it is signed and framed, but you must come pick it up. I was told that the station burned down and they built another.
I haven’t posted here in a long time, partly because my artistic endeavors have taken a turn toward quilting instead of painting.   But this quilt started as a painting which I had printed on fabric and then turned it into a quilt.  So maybe I can slip it into the blog!  If you are interested in seeing more, let me know!
