Guarding the Castle - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Guarding the Castle 5x7 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid.  Every now and again when I'm setting up a still life, I get these silly little ideas in my head about what could be happening at this moment in time if these object where actually alive. Today was one of those times. While setting up my still life, I had this idea that the little lemon was fending off the tomatoes who were trying to get past it. I'm not sure what triggered this thought, but I think it was the way the vine on the tomato looked. Then I thought, well, if the lemon is a guard he needs a shield, so I went outside to our lemon tree and picked a couple of leaves off of it. I figured the one leaf leaning on the lemon is his shield. The other ones are various weapons that the tomatoes knocked out of his hands. Once this story played out in my mind, the title was pretty easy to come up with. Visit my web site and blog to see more of my work. ht...

EXPRESS YOURSELF by Linda Popple

Click HERE to view my blog. This was painted for Sharon Hodges' moleskin. Her theme is "Express Yourself" which I do each time I paint. Painting in these moleskins is fun, but a bit stressful. This time my palette fell upside down on Sharon's open book. The page next to my painting has splotches of color and now needs to dry. I apologize, Sharon! I'm a klutz! I hope I get better at this or I'll never be asked to paint in anyone's moleskin again. The moleskins are found at TEXAS MOLESKIN ROUND-UP. You can see some fantastic work there and enjoy following the moleskins!

Johnson City 3 by Kirk Witmer

Oil on archival canvas panel - 6x8" I'm doing a series of paintings from my visit to Johnson City. The pathways in Johnson City's preserved original settlement just seem to wind on and on. October was a good time of year for a nice long walk. I think this painting has pretty good "aerial perspective" and really shows the distance and the length of this path. Beyond the Pale Purple Iris by Nancy Medina 6X8 Oil on Linen Board My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Beyond the Pale Purple Iris is the latest work in Flower Mound Studio, as two new four foot container garden flower paintings dry strategically in front of heaters. These paintings need to ship to Coronado, California, on Monday so they can arrive in plenty of time for my annual solo show at Art and Frames by Wood Gallery on April 16. If you are in Southern California, please join me April 16. I'll be painting in the garden of the oldest gallery on the island, which is a quick trip from San Diego. If we are lucky, the monarch butterflies will join us again this year! The gallery is one of the loveliest spots on Orange Avenue, and just a few doors down from the Starbucks, so you'll be there anyway for your favorite capuccino! This is one of my favorite places to visit, cottage gardens and flowers everywhere in perfect year-round sunshine. Rest...

From The Top - Thaw Malin iii

"From The Top", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel. I began today thinking of a painting in the woods. Maybe a tree or stonewall would do. I wandered down paths and byways scouting. Each time I came to a high spot, there was a great view of this beach, but from afar. I finally had to give in and drive down to the beach and walk up this path. And, well, this is what I saw: hazy sunset and dropping temperature as an inclement weather front floated in... If you'd like to purchase, please click Go to my Auction, bidding starts at $100.00 US. Subscribe to my "New Paintings" mailing list. Each day that I create a new painting it will be sent to your email box. Other works found at Thaw Malin Art

Make Like A Tree... - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Make Like A Tree... 5x7 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid.  Last night, I was watching Richard Schmid's DVD "The Capital Collection." This is a wonderful DVD with artwork spanning most of Schmid's career. He narrates the DVD with stories and the history of each painting while throwing in a lot of interesting little tips along the way. During the presentation of one of his floral paintings, he talks about the importance of painting leaves and how they can make or break a painting. A few slides later, another floral painting come up, and, again, he mentions the how the leaves really make the painting. With this in mind, I thought I would practice painting leaves of various types and colors. I have to admit this is one area where I usually struggle.  Sometimes I try to get by with more of an impression of the leaves then an accurate rendering of them. By doing a painting of pretty much nothing but leaves, I was forced to concent...

Niki Gulley Paintings "Flowing Light"

"Flowing Light" Original Oil Painting by Niki Gulley 36" x 60" You walk down a path sheltered by autumn drenched trees, intrigued by the light flowing through the leaves and branches, casting shadows, colors changing with each gentle breeze, sunlight cascading down your pathway. Peaceful, tranquil this painting flows around the canvas capturing the memory of autumn: lush crisp colors, crunchy leaves and a walk through the woods Walt Whitman would have envied. "Flowing Light" is oil on canvas, 36" x 60" and is available for purchase. To see "Flowing Light" and more of my textured palette knife oil paintings in person, stop by my booth at Art City Austin, the premier juried outdoor art festival in Austin, TX, April 2-3. GREEN JAR by Linda Popple

6x6 Oil on Gessobord Click HERE to visit my blog. I've had a few ..... ok, MANY wipe-outs this last week! I think I'm back on track. I paid a price for being gone for nine days over spring break and it's been hard to get my juju back. Vacation was worth a few bad paintings and the frustration that comes with it. We visited with family in Florida and Alabama and really had a great time. But, as always, it is good to return home. :-) $65.00 free shipping in US

What are YOU Lookin' At??? - rooster painting by Debbie Grayson Lincoln

6X6 Oil on Linen Panel $100 Includes Shipping and Insurance in U.S. I haven't been blogging lately - too busy working in the yard and the vegetable garden. This year I have committed myself to being intensive using compost (we have a HUGE pile) and totally organic methods. I rarely use insecticides anyway - choosing to plant enough for us AND the bugs. But I do know there are better methods - and space is becoming a premium as the growing trees around the garden's perimeter are now using a huge share of the sunshine. In addition, we had such a poor tomato crop last year - partly due to the early heat - that I am really working hard to get a good crop off and running early this year. It hasn't been easy either. We have already had uncommonly warm dry weather followed by cool dampness, and even frost. Gardening in Texas is becoming more and more a challenge. And to add to the problems, I discovered a mite infestation in the hen house. I am letting another hen set...

03/29/11 Cabo Cutie

This is the daughter of a friend of mine. Keeton is the cutest little bathing beauty in Cabo San Lucas. Her mom, Kelli is always snapping a picture of her. This is from their most recent vacation. I sat down at my easel one Sunday and just worked this one out in about 4 hours! As you can tell, I used my pallet knife on most of it, including the face, but finally had to resort to a brush when I got to the eyes. She was so much fun to paint!!

Kiss Me Poppies by Nancy Medina

Kiss Me Poppies by Nancy Medina 6X8 Oil on Linen Board My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog It's been a busy weekend in Flower Mound Studio, with the arrival of my friends Gerry and Michele from Illinois this weekend. Gerry and Michele came to Texas to meet a very special little foster pug, Tiffany, and to take her home with them. Tiffany aka Tiffy Tippy Toes has been a bright light in the Medina Foster Home for Wayward pugs for almost 2 months. She came to us through Dallas Fort Worth Pug Rescue after animal control found her earlier this year. Tiffy has only a small amount of vision, but this has not stopped her from living life to the fullest, from playing with my three spoiled pugs, from running around the yard and enjoying the routine here. She seemed to instantly understand that Michele was there to be her forever mom. Fostering a rescue animal is a wonderful thing - you get to watch the little one in your care bloom like a flower, one petal a...
