This painting reminds me of my childhood. Growing up in an Italian home, every Sunday we had pasta for dinner. All day long the sauce (red lead, gravy, Sunday sauce - take your pick) would simmer on the stove with rest of the ingredients sitting close by to be added at the proper time. Cans of tomatoes, garlic, onions and olive oil would all wait their turn to flavor the meal. A pinch of this, a little more of that, let it simmer for an hour, taste and repeat. On and on it goes for hours. It's a tradition that my wife and I continue to this day, especially since this has turned out to be my little girl's favorite meal of the week.

The Old Mill Study, Barbara Haviland

#mill,#water,#building,#11x14,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com This painting was part of a study.  We had the photo and I painted it then watched the demo. I always do that.  I like to change my painting up a bit. It is painted on a hardboard panel that has canvas adhered to it.  I have used this method for years. I don't care for the spring of a stretched canvas.  Thanks for viewing my art ~~Barbara Available  GALLERY INFO Barbara Haviland Fine Art 1579 County Road 1010 Woodville, Texas 75979 409-332-0141 Website

Central Fire Station Lake Charles, La Barbara Haviland

CENTRAL FIRE STATION LAKE CHARLES, LA #CentralFireStation,#HIstoric,#Building,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com Central Fire Station  no longer exists in  Lake Charles, La.  I had some old photos that I used to paint this painting.   24"x40"  and it is signed and framed, but you must come pick it up. I was told that the station burned down and they built another.
I haven’t posted here in a long time, partly because my artistic endeavors have taken a turn toward quilting instead of painting.   But this quilt started as a painting which I had printed on fabric and then turned it into a quilt.  So maybe I can slip it into the blog!  If you are interested in seeing more, let me know!
