Fossil Rim Bluebonnets by Sheri Jones

Fossil Rim Bluebonnets  9x12 oil on Raymar canvas panel I painted this today on the outskirts of Fossil Rim in Glen Rose.  Fossil Rim is a wildlife center and filled with wild animals and wildflowers.  I met my friends, Jill Randall, Joyce Thomas and Vickie Guthrie there to enjoy the warm temperatures and seasonal flowers. The flowers are in full bloom and just spectacular this year.  They are a sight to see and enjoy. We were thrilled to be outside painting together. This is available for purchase $250.00 Sheri@sheriart.net www.sheriart.net www.sheriart.blogspot.com www.cfai.co/sherijones/

Spring Bluebonnets

6"x6" Pastel on Paper My husband and I will be driving to Alaska the middle of April. I wanted to be able to do art work on the trip and decided on pastels. In this outstanding year for bluebonnets, I love capturing them in pastels. I bought a 6"x8" Guerrilla paint box and added my pastels. I will be doing 6"x8" or 5"x7" paintings. I will put a towel over my lap and hold my Guerrilla box and work on pastels as we drive. "Spring Bluebonnets" by Jill Randall

Intermezzo Poppy Solo by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Intermezzo Poppy Solo by Nancy Medina 6X8 Oil on Linen Board Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Intermezzo Poppy Solo is a new study in the studio today. I wanted to see if I could produce the variation in color using just a few pigments and one large brush - especially because red can be so darn hard to photograph. Usually when I finish a painting, I take a photo of it and look at it on the viewfinder. Then I put the camera away, and correct all the little things I thought needed adjusting in the viewfinder. Looking at the painting through the camera lens, and then the image the camera produces on the small screen, always helps me see things I've missed, or areas that could do with some boosting or brighter color. Time to wash up the brushes now and get ready for Pugapalooza for DFW Pug Rescue. We have a big day ahead. Studio director Annie's got a bonnet contest to enter...!

On the Lookout by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"On the Lookout" is an original oil painting of two beautiful Baltimore Orioles, with their deep black eyes scanning the horizon, not only for a meal, but for anything or anyone that could cause them to lose out on such a beautiful day. The Baltimore oriole males have such brilliant colored plumage, making them one of the most favored birds to watch. Many thanks to Larry Ditto, a professional photographer for Texas Highways magazine, Field and Stream, National Geographic, and many other fine magazines and articles on wild life in the USA, who so graciously allowed me to paint one of his beautiful photographs. Thank you for looking at my work. DOMINICAN DANCER by Carol Peterson

Dominican Dancer by Carol Peterson ( carolpeterson@suddenlink.net ) www.carolpetersonart.com 24" x 22" watercolor $800 This is a dancer who posed for pictures while we were in the Dominican Republic.  She seemed to enjoy her dancing very much and picture taking very much.  The painting is a watercolor over an acrylic underpainting.  I find that watercolor is brighter over a light fluid acrylic underpainting.

Stolen Blossoms Yellow Roses by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Stolen Blossoms Yellow Roses by Nancy Medina 10X10 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Stolen Blossoms is a new little rose painting in the studio and comes with a bit of a confession. Or a question rather. If your neighbor's climbing yellow roses drape beautifully and dramatically over the fence and into your back yard, is it okay to cut a few and use them as studio models? Is this infringement on neighbor gardening copyright perhaps? I'm already finding ways to justify my flower philandering - if I make a pretty little print card out of the painting and present the card to the neighbors as a gift, would that make my wayward behavior more socially acceptable? What if I admitted I waited until after dark to clip the roses. Does that make me even more guilty? The studio models take a bow (and one collapses...)

A Nice Lie

Matador    8x10    oil Here's the last study I did while at the coast last week.  This was done on a sunny, breezy, afternoon looking across the launch and take-out ramp in Conn Harbor, Aransas Pass.  Looks quiet and peaceful, doesn't it?  But it's a lie!  Boats were often coming in through the foreground area to load onto their trailers at the end of a day of fishing.  Lots of noise, hub-ub, shouting and laughing about their day's catch, and loading instructions. There was another little oyster boat on the other side of the pier, behind the one I've painted, confusing all the shapes.  I left it out but took the nets off of it and hung them on the Matador since it didn't have any.  I Imported the palms, which were out of view to the left, and planted them where they would tie into the exhaust stack of the boat.   Where I stood to paint placed me in a continual flow of fisherman, and sight-seers and the free banter of their ...

When the Trumpets Sound by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

“When the Trumpets Sound”, an original oil painting by Sandra Reeves Cutrer, a Texas artist.       Three young elephants seem to be “sounding their trumpets” while coming in at sundown from a long day hunting for food, learning lessons from their protective parents, and enjoying elephant play; seemingly aware they are living in a beautiful paradise.   Painted on a 10”x 20”x 0.50” wrapped canvas. The sides are painted a dark hue, easy to hang in your favorite room with or without a frame. Thanks for looking! "Dancing on Water" textured oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Dancing on Water" ©2012 Niki Gulley 36” x 60” textured oil painting Sunlight sparkles across aqua blue water, diamonds of purple glitter the pond’s surface; water lilies lift their faces toward the sun and gently dance across the water. Golden sunlight filters through the brambles and ferns, a touch of cardinal red peeks through purple and pink foliage while azure skies reflect in the water. Blue Bonnets in Aledo by Sheri Jones

Blue Bonnets in Aledo  8x10 oil on canvas I met artist, Jill Randall, Claudia Davis and Candy Clynch at Janice Weaver's house in Aledo. She lives out in the country and shared the neighborhood blue bonnets with us. It is always fun to paint with other artist.  It was another perfect spring day and a joy to be outside. Summer Sun Poppies by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Summer Sun Poppies by Nancy Medina 18X18 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Summer Sun Poppies is the newest painting in the studio, as I finish up edges on commissions and package paintings to ship to clients in Pennsylvania and Texas. I received an email this week from a woman who lives in Mexico who wants to drive up to Fredericksburg, Texas , to take my workshop. She does not speak English, and she asked if she could bring an interpreter with her to assist. This is perfectly okay, of course, and I sure hope she makes the trip, even though she had noted that this would be a big step for her to come to the US to take the class. With the blessing of the art school owner, I sent her a note telling her she and the interpreter would both be welcome if they can come. I'll let you know if she makes it to my class!

Keeping It Simple

Beautiful Dreamer    9x12    oil I found this old, sleek, wooden-hulled, marlin boat (I was told) morooned, high and dry on a hilltop in Conn Harbor/Aransas Pass.  Couldn't hilp thinking how she must have once been the apple of some happy fisherman's eye.  That's how I came to naming the painting "Beautiful Dreamer". This is a plein air study, and I hope it appears deceptively simple in execution, but there was a significant drawing puzzle to solve in getting the boat to look right.  The cabin structure and rear of the boat had to be worked out in their relative parts and tilted perspective, or the boat would present an awkward disjuncture. When I see there's a bit of a drawing problem involved in a subject, I'll usually begin with a dry brush indication of that area using something like Burnt Sienna.  The only medium I use for this is a very small bit of Liquin, to give better control of the range of marks I need for line and tone indica...

A Day Just For You by Kay Wyne

A Day Just For You 36" x 60" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas This original oil painting is drying. I focused on the colors, wanting a soft and dreamy look. I believe this is the first time I have painted on this size canvas....it is not huge, and looks great over our sofa in the den. This contemporary abstract would be perfect for an office or home setting. Contact Kay for more information at kay@kwyne.com or 214-532-0325. Thanks for looking at this blog!

BIG BEN SUNRISE by Linda Popple

6x6 Oil Painting on Ampersand Gessobord Click  HERE  to bid on this painting. Click HERE to view my blog. Another painting from Big Bend.  Daybreak was painted along the eastern horizon with colors of oranges, pinks, and blues.  It was a beautiful sunrise!

Get With It!

End Of The Road    9x12 The month has slipped by, and I haven't posted since putting up some of the paintings from my Big Bend trip.  Things were pretty intense when I got back, trying to get caught up with what had been left undone while I was gone, taking care of business, and just getting outside to paint.  I just returned from a week of painting down on the coast.  Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Rockport, Fulton Beach.  The weather was great, and I was ready to get away and just focus on painting, again. I found this subject while cruising through an old Port A neighborhood in the late afternoon. There are several reasons I named this one "End Of The Road". One is where it's situated, and another is that both houses are soon to be torn down in the continuing city renewal mandate process.  It's sad to see that the old Port A that I grew up loving has all but disappeared.  Anyway, I'm happy to have painted this and another soon to be wrecked...

Spring Promise Poppy Painting by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Spring Promise Poppies by Nancy Medina 18X18 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Spring Promise Poppies is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio. I've been hard at work on a few new commissions lately, while the siren song of red poppies was all the while calling my name. This is the first of three panels of 18X18 gallery wrap canvas, so stay tuned to watch the fields continue to blossom and grow over the next few weeks! The helpers are well into the alpha rest state, which means one must turn up the TV volume to hear over the little snores. I received a very exciting new pug accoutrement in the mail today, a case for my IPad, which was aptly named my "IPug" by the hubby, who sets up all things technical in the Medina Foster Home for Wayward Pugs. Monet's Garden painting by Niki Gulley & upcoming Art Trek to Paris

SOLD • "Radiance" ©2012 Niki Gulley Three 48" x 30" canvases to form a 48" x 90" triptych textured oil painting on wrap around canvas Just sold! I decided it would be a fun challenge to create an extremely large painting, and I wanted the final piece to be very uplifting, colorful and full of energy. Opting for warm colors and working with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives, I chose this lily pond reference from our visit to Monet's Gardens in Giverny, France. The grounds were breathtaking and I could actually see his paintings come to life. I was drawn to the energetic flow and yet calming serenity in this view, and I positioned the water lilies and my paint strokes in a circular pattern to add to that mood. The morning light peeking through the distant foliage added to a sense of mystery and promise that I wanted to capture in paint, and share with you that feeling of hope. If you would like to join us in May for our nex...

Blue Rain Iris Painting by Texas Flower Painter Nancy Medina

Blue Rain Iris by Nancy Medina 10X10 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Blue Rain Iris is the newest small painting in the studio, a little tribute to the finishing touches I placed on a 24X30 iris commission today. Someone asked me on my facebook page how I am able to come home every day from an office job and paint every night without collapsing. I've guarded my secret quite closely, but now the word is out! When I feel my energy flagging, I dip into the big bag of Dove milk chocolate and only allow myself as much as I can carry in two fists to the studio. It's important to demonstrate a modicum of self-control, after all.

"A Daughter of Israel"

A Daughter of Israel 16 x 20" Oil SOLD   This is a break from my normal genre of painting, but I've had some interest lately for inspirational art. It is with a renewed vigor that I painted this image of a relative that recently visited Israel. She is also a descendent of Jewish heritage...with blonde hair and hazel eyes! The concept of this painting lies in a Scripture:  " Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun..."      Song of Songs 6:10 I was captivated by her beautiful eyes...I hope you will be too. www.vonniekohn.com http://vonniekohn-artist.blogspot.com http://vonniekohn.blogspot.com vkohnartist@aol.com Thank you for looking!

I've shared a photo of my iris garden with you on my art blog today . I wish you could have been there with us, enjoying the spring breeze.

Prima Donna, Siamese Cat by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

Prima Donna (or First Lady) is painted in dark blue oils using the monochrome method, on a 12”x12”x1” gallery wrapped canvas. All sides are painted in a dark blue hue, so she can be left unframed if desired. This pretty little lady wasn’t keen on having her photo taken, but I hung in and waited for her to relax. She finally decided she wasn’t all that worried about the fuss, gave me a regal glance, and curled up for a long nap. One can never predict what a cat will do, especially if they think you are trying to take charge! Thanks for looking at my work. Please view this painting, more of my work, and price information @srcartavenue.blogspot.com. Or you may contact me at sandrasart777@aol.com. A canvas is never empty. — Robert Rauschenberg
