This painting was painted from photos taken in a year when the iris were absolutely beautiful. The background was started with a heavy application of green, blue and some red watercolor in a wet on dry fashion. While the background was wet, I put plastic wrap on the paper and stretched it vertically. When dry this gave the impression of leaves in the background. Some of the leaves were reinforced with color.
