Sun Streaks by Sheri Jones

Sun Streaks by Sheri Jones 11x14 oil on canvas I loved all the color the sun creates in the late afternoon. The sun cast a golden color on the grass and I couldn't resist painting it. Forgotten Dreams

This is one of an ever expanding series of paintings called "Forgotten Dreams". I was inspired by cave paintings from all over the world. I used lots of texture to lend the work the look and feel of stone. I used charcoal and dry pigments to lend an air of authenticity to the work. I am amazed at the sophistication of our ancient ancestors and the beauty of their work that still survives.

Southern Breeze - Original Abstract Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Southern Breeze 24"x24"x.75" Acrylic on Canvas Purchase Information After a bit of time away from my studio, I finally decided to tackle a new abstract painting.  I've worked in this particular style before and it's refreshing to go back to it again.  Lots of glazed layers of color, splashes of water to wash out color, incised calligraphic symbols, stenciling, and scrubbing out of some areas are just some of the methods I used in creating this painting.  It's a thoroughly intuitive technique and a lot of fun to explore all the possibilities that can develop.  I added a glazing of iridescent gold to some of the lighter areas of the painting.  Unfortunately the golden gleam of the glaze doesn't show up in this picture.  The sides are painted so that framing isn't needed.  The painting is wired and ready to hang. "CREEK FLOW" – plein air and studio landscape painting by Texas modern impressionist Jimmy Longacre

Today's painting, entitled "CREEK FLOW" is an 11X14",  plein air, oil on canvas panel,  by Texas modern impressionist Jimmy Longacre.  I was caught by the abstract quality of this view, seen from the top of a cliff.

DUNES CHAPEL - Oil on Canvas Panel - by Tina Bohlman

DUNES CHAPEL- 9x12- Oil on Canvas   One of my very favorite places to paint on location is Port Aransas on the Texas Gulf Coast. This studio oil painting was created working from my plein air watercolor sketchbook and photos. The little chapel is located in a residental district, high on a sandy dune hill behind a private home.  The path to the chapel is "paved" with flagstone and old railroad ties with Sea Oates, natural coastal grass and wildflowers on each side. Guarding the front door is a gorgeous palm tree.  Once again, Mother Nature provides a perfect composition.  The most compelling element that draws me back to this chapel - again and again - are the late afternoon shadows. The chapel sits an an angle with the west side in full sun and the front in partial sun shaded by the palm. In the warm afternoon light, the shadows are a brilliant cobalt blue falling across the stucco. An additional element, though not visable in this paint...
Yellow Organdy Baby Slip I found this child's garment in an antique shop. It is the slip worn with a more ornate dress for a small child dating to around the 1950's. The fabric is Organdy and I was intrigued with painting its transparent quality. I can remember wearing Organdy as a child and the fabric was very uncomfortable, but looked wonderful, crisp, and full. I wanted to know about Organdy and found the following information. Organdy is very fine transparent cotton with a stiff finish. Crispness is due to a finish with starch and calendering which washes out, or a permanent crispness obtained with chemicals (Heberlein process). Calendering is a finishing process used on cloth where fabric is folded in half and passed under rollers at high temperatures and pressures. This polishes the surface and makes the fabric smoother and more lustrous. Fabrics that go through the Calendering process feel thin, glossy and papery. The Calendering finish is easily dest...

Wings: Painting #10 of 100 by Kay Wyne

Wings: Painting #10 100 Paintings in 100 Days, $100 each. 8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel by Texas Artist Kay Wyne Thick paint on this small panel gives the contemporary painting lots of texture. I blended the colors on the panel as I applied the paint with the palette knife. No brushes on this painting. I now have a new favorite knife....it is a number 24, and gives me crisp edges, and can get into small spaces on the canvas. Thanks for viewing this blog and the art posted here. Have a great day. Snug Harbor Cannery Retorts by Jill Randall

Snug Harbor Cannery Retorts by Jill Randall Oil on Raymar Panel 8”x 10” Snug Harbor, Chisik Island Alaska Snug Harbor Cannery stopped canning salmon about 40 years ago.   These retorts are huge canners that have always fascinated me. I wanted to abstract the color and some shapes in order to capture my emotional response to these huge canners.   They are giants compared to my canner which only holds 14 pint jars of salmon. FLOWERS FROM THE YARD BY PAT MEYER

12 X 16 ORIGINAL OIL ON LINEN PANEL CONTACT ARTIST TO PURCHASE $200 PAT@MEYER.NET The heat of summer is well upon us and most of the beautiful big spring blossoms have all disappeared.  In the garden of the yard are still some hardy souls that just hang on through all the adversity of every day life.  So much like us they have to be the tough ones to make it through all the summer heat and lack of beautiful rain this summer.  To give them a tribute they were picked and given a place of honor for a painting.  May we be like these dear little ones that brave what life throughs their way and may you find your easel friendly. Painting Rancho de Taos with Niki Gulley

SANTA FE ART TREK:  Plein Air Painting / Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams   Day 3, morning location - Rancho de Taos 10" x 8" textured oil by Niki Gulley On day 3 of our Santa Fe Art Trek, we headed north to paint Rancho de Taos, made famous in paint by Georgia O'Keefe and in film by Ansel Adams. Today each of my students saw the adobe structure differently, and each chose a unique perspective of the building. Spending most of the morning helping everyone with perspective and getting accurate angles on this tricky pueblo, I had just enough time to do a quick  palette knife sketch of a close up of the church. Choosing vibrant golds and reds for the bell tower set against a gorgeous cobalt sky, really made the colors sing! First Bloom Sunflower by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

First Bloom Sunflower by Nancy Medina 8X10 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Our first sunflower of the season bloomed in our back yard today. It's a pretty little thing, and I've shared it with you on my art blog. It has long, finger-shaped petals and a necklace of bright yellow and brown spotted pearls around its belly. The petals are all different shapes and some are long and some are short and some are missing and others line up nicely. This is exactly how I like to paint sunflowers.  Tomorrow I will be driving to East Texas to spend some time with my Mom, who is not doing well. Her health has been deteriorating for some time, and the doctor today she may now be in congestive heart failure. We'll stay up late and watch true crime TV and she can show me all the shows she taped that she saved for me to watch because they were so good. It will be absolutely wonderful.

Painting the Aspen Trail with Niki Gulley

SANTA FE ART TREK:  Plein Air Painting / Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams   Day 2, afternoon location - Aspen Trail 9" x 12" textured oil by Niki Gulley On day 2 of our Santa Fe Art Trek, the temperature started rising in the afternoon, so we headed up into the mountains for cooler breezes to paint the beautiful aspen trees. We were attracted to the brilliant white trunks with their unique peeling bark and dark protruding knots. I liked how the soft dappled light came through the trees and illuminated the path, leading into the distance. Becoming totally lost in the moment, we set out to capture the peacefulness and contentment we felt that afternoon. "Bear" 15"x22" Transparent Watercolor by Debbie Cannatella

I've been working all summer swamped with commissions, which is good! But I don't get to paint just for me, which I miss. This 15"x22" is the latest piece that I snapped a photo of with my cell phone. It was delivered as soon as it was dry. "Bear" is a beautiful dog with a fabulous mane. I did a photo shoot of him before he got his summer hair cut but just now got to painting the painting. I'm behind on all of them, it seems! I'm kind of ready to paint without a deadline.
