First Bloom Sunflower by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

First Bloom Sunflower

Our first sunflower of the season bloomed in our back yard today. It's a pretty little thing, and I've shared it with you on my art blog. It has long, finger-shaped petals and a necklace of bright yellow and brown spotted pearls around its belly. The petals are all different shapes and some are long and some are short and some are missing and others line up nicely. This is exactly how I like to paint sunflowers.

Tomorrow I will be driving to East Texas to spend some time with my Mom, who is not doing well. Her health has been deteriorating for some time, and the doctor today she may now be in congestive heart failure. We'll stay up late and watch true crime TV and she can show me all the shows she taped that she saved for me to watch because they were so good. It will be absolutely wonderful.

The Old Mill Study, Barbara Haviland

#mill,#water,#building,#11x14,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com This painting was part of a study.  We had the photo and I painted it then watched the demo. I always do that.  I like to change my painting up a bit. It is painted on a hardboard panel that has canvas adhered to it.  I have used this method for years. I don't care for the spring of a stretched canvas.  Thanks for viewing my art ~~Barbara Available  GALLERY INFO Barbara Haviland Fine Art 1579 County Road 1010 Woodville, Texas 75979 409-332-0141 Website

Central Fire Station Lake Charles, La Barbara Haviland

CENTRAL FIRE STATION LAKE CHARLES, LA #CentralFireStation,#HIstoric,#Building,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com Central Fire Station  no longer exists in  Lake Charles, La.  I had some old photos that I used to paint this painting.   24"x40"  and it is signed and framed, but you must come pick it up. I was told that the station burned down and they built another.
I haven’t posted here in a long time, partly because my artistic endeavors have taken a turn toward quilting instead of painting.   But this quilt started as a painting which I had printed on fabric and then turned it into a quilt.  So maybe I can slip it into the blog!  If you are interested in seeing more, let me know!
