In Progress "Running Free" - Original Abstract Horse Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

This is a new painting I started yesterday and I'm sure you'll agree that it's a little different from most of my work!  I've been needing to be re-energized lately and found just what I needed this weekend.

I signed up for a workshop taught by my good friend Nancy Medina.  We met in scenic Fredericksburg, TX, ate great food, had fun with new friends and learned from a master!  Nancy is an award winning floral artist.  Her floral paintings are spectacular and it's such a treat to watch her bring each painting to life.  She works exclusively in oils, a medium I haven't touched in many years.  Experimenting with a medium that I'm not accustomed to using,  forced me to "think out of the box" and set my creative juices flowing again.

These are a few shots I took as I started working on this painting.  It's a pretty big canvas - 48"x36".  I love the energy in this one so far.  Tomorrow I'll post the finished painting.

The Old Mill Study, Barbara Haviland

#mill,#water,#building,#11x14,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com This painting was part of a study.  We had the photo and I painted it then watched the demo. I always do that.  I like to change my painting up a bit. It is painted on a hardboard panel that has canvas adhered to it.  I have used this method for years. I don't care for the spring of a stretched canvas.  Thanks for viewing my art ~~Barbara Available  GALLERY INFO Barbara Haviland Fine Art 1579 County Road 1010 Woodville, Texas 75979 409-332-0141 Website

Central Fire Station Lake Charles, La Barbara Haviland

CENTRAL FIRE STATION LAKE CHARLES, LA #CentralFireStation,#HIstoric,#Building,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com Central Fire Station  no longer exists in  Lake Charles, La.  I had some old photos that I used to paint this painting.   24"x40"  and it is signed and framed, but you must come pick it up. I was told that the station burned down and they built another.
I haven’t posted here in a long time, partly because my artistic endeavors have taken a turn toward quilting instead of painting.   But this quilt started as a painting which I had printed on fabric and then turned it into a quilt.  So maybe I can slip it into the blog!  If you are interested in seeing more, let me know!
