On a beautiful autumn day a couple of weeks ago I drove to Glen Rose to paint.  In my rush to leave I forgot my mineral spirits - remembered just as I was approaching the Glen Rose square.  I was also short on time, so decided to leave my paints in the car and take some photographs.  The Texas landscape can sometimes be barren, but not this time.  Because we have had some good rain this season, the land displayed her color in all its glory.  I am continuing to discover the joys of painting the landscape and Texas has some beautiful and interesting views.

In keeping with this little Texas theme and with politics present, here is a quote from Molly Ivens .....
Good thing we've still got politics in Texas -- finest form of free entertainment ever invented.

AND, btw, I voted yesterday ..... have you?

The Old Mill Study, Barbara Haviland

#mill,#water,#building,#11x14,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com This painting was part of a study.  We had the photo and I painted it then watched the demo. I always do that.  I like to change my painting up a bit. It is painted on a hardboard panel that has canvas adhered to it.  I have used this method for years. I don't care for the spring of a stretched canvas.  Thanks for viewing my art ~~Barbara Available  GALLERY INFO Barbara Haviland Fine Art 1579 County Road 1010 Woodville, Texas 75979 409-332-0141 Website

Central Fire Station Lake Charles, La Barbara Haviland

CENTRAL FIRE STATION LAKE CHARLES, LA #CentralFireStation,#HIstoric,#Building,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com Central Fire Station  no longer exists in  Lake Charles, La.  I had some old photos that I used to paint this painting.   24"x40"  and it is signed and framed, but you must come pick it up. I was told that the station burned down and they built another.
I haven’t posted here in a long time, partly because my artistic endeavors have taken a turn toward quilting instead of painting.   But this quilt started as a painting which I had printed on fabric and then turned it into a quilt.  So maybe I can slip it into the blog!  If you are interested in seeing more, let me know!
