"Shades of Americana" (Oil Study) by Kyle Wood

"Shades of Americana"
6" x 8" Oil Study by Kyle Wood

Here is a small painting that I completed a few days of ago of a scene around Waxahachie, Texas.  Working from photographs, I did a small study of one of the historical homes in Waxahachie, Texas.  The main purpose of the studies is to work out a composition and idea for a larger, more refined painting.  Here I am not too concerned about details, but rather with overall form, structure, massing, and color objects.
For 2013 and perhaps beyond, we are moving in a different direction with my art.  After evaluating some of my past works, I have decided to place more emphasis on painting architectural vignettes.  The architectural paintings that I have done in the past, seem to be stronger in composition and design overall, so this is main reason why I am moving in this direction.  One of the goals is to eventually to turn some of these architectural vignettes into a narrative they tells a story about someone or about an event(s) that took place here.

The Old Mill Study, Barbara Haviland

#mill,#water,#building,#11x14,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com This painting was part of a study.  We had the photo and I painted it then watched the demo. I always do that.  I like to change my painting up a bit. It is painted on a hardboard panel that has canvas adhered to it.  I have used this method for years. I don't care for the spring of a stretched canvas.  Thanks for viewing my art ~~Barbara Available  GALLERY INFO Barbara Haviland Fine Art 1579 County Road 1010 Woodville, Texas 75979 409-332-0141 Website

Central Fire Station Lake Charles, La Barbara Haviland

CENTRAL FIRE STATION LAKE CHARLES, LA #CentralFireStation,#HIstoric,#Building,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com Central Fire Station  no longer exists in  Lake Charles, La.  I had some old photos that I used to paint this painting.   24"x40"  and it is signed and framed, but you must come pick it up. I was told that the station burned down and they built another.
I haven’t posted here in a long time, partly because my artistic endeavors have taken a turn toward quilting instead of painting.   But this quilt started as a painting which I had printed on fabric and then turned it into a quilt.  So maybe I can slip it into the blog!  If you are interested in seeing more, let me know!
