"Olive Tree" 16x20, Oil on Gessobord by Dawn Waters Baker

"Olive Tree" 16x20, Oil on Gessobord       I wanted to show a "ghostly" tree with it's roots becoming like a waterfall.  The Olive Tree has lots of character in it's shape.  I love the twists and turns you get in its form.  I also love the color blue.  It has been fun for me to do some paintings of things that have been in my head a long time.

In Progress - Day 1 - Original Abstract Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Day 1 This is a new painting I started this morning.  I started out by covering an old painting with a layer of white gesso, to build up texture on the canvas.  When the gesso was completely dry, I made wide, sweeping gesture marks on the canvas with a black Caran d'Arche crayon.  To add more texture and to "veil" some of the markings, I made a mixture of gloss medium, slow-dri blending medium and a little bit of gesso and painted out some of the lines.  I didn't worry too much about being neat as I "sloshed" the paint on the canvas.  At this point in the painting process, I'm only thinking about establishing a structure that will be the underpinning of the finished painting.  Some of the marks will show through and others will not. Stay tuned to my next post to see the progress! Original abstract painting by Texas Contemporary Abstract Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth Click here to see more of my original abstract painting...

Reef Rover

Reef Rover 8 x 8 Oil on Panel Randall Cogburn Click to Purchase on  eBay Auction Scuba diving has been something I've enjoyed and runs in the family. My dad was head of the Scuba Diving club at Macdill Airforce Base while he was stationed in Florida in the 60's and did a great deal of diving and two brothers who are certified divers and mom was a snorkler but did go on some dives. Lot's of stories my dad has about diving around Florida including cave diving, night diving, and spearfishing. Looking forward to doing a lot more of these paintings.

"Generations of Praise" by Kyle Wood

"Generations of Praise" by Kyle Wood 4.5" x 6" Oil on Canvas Paper Here is a painting of a country church using mainly warm colors (cadium yellow medium, yellow ochre pale, cadium red medium, burnt sienna) + titanium white. For the shadow and other dark areas, I added a touch of ultramarine blue and small amounts of alizarin crimson. Using these colors, I was able to achieve a sense of warmness and nostalgia to the overall scene. Enjoy! To see more paintings, please visit me at  www.kwoodfineart.com . Ariel ~ Koi Pond Commission by Nancy Medina

Ariel - Detail from Koi Garden Commission 18X24 Oil on Archival Panel Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter Ariel is a lovely lady whose mom must move away soon. I was commissioned to paint Ariel's koi garden as a gift from the family, and the painting is in progress in Flower Mound Studio this week. I incorporated green shadows into her golden tones, to change temperature in shadow areas, and pushed highlights into more pure colors where the light was striking. There is nothing better than receiving a commission from someone whose photographs are professional quality, and the images I was given to work from are stellar. What a treat it has been to dip into the deeps with golds and nature's beauty in water this week! Stay tuned to my art blog ~ I will be posting this entire painting step by step as soon as it is concluded, in just a few days.

Plein Air Barn....in progress by Kay Wyne

Barn in plein air...after day one. This is a 20" x 24" canvas, on location in  Evergreen, Colorado. I was challenged by the moving light and shadows  on the barn. I had to work very fast....at this point I had painted about 90 minutes, drawing and painting in color.  I had to quit at this point,  and returned the next day to catch the details of the shadows. I also had an issue with the sun light moving  so quickly, that it  hit the back of my easel.  So grabbing  the right colors, focusing on  the light and shadows and painting fast was important.   I  have a green  when I paint,  and tried a new approach to get some  earthy and cool greens...lots of mixing going on.   I probably should post a pic of my palette.... it was a real mess! I hope to post the completed painting soon. Thanks for viewing....K...

"In the Shadows" Oil on Panel by Dawn Waters Baker

"In the Shadows" 5x7, Oil on Panel     I got a chance to Plein Air paint this past week and it was actually a cloudy day with a cool breeze.  In July!  It was great although I think it has spoiled me as I went out again that same week and it was cloudy and cool.   One thing I love about the clouds is how they bring out the colors.  The green seems so inviting to me, so soft and cool.  I had fun sitting in the shadows of these great Oaks painting and enjoying the Texas landscape.

Cone Flowers - An Original 8x8 Plein Air Landscape Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Cone Flowers   ©   8x8 inches   Oil George De Chiara Click here to bid.   While visiting my parents, I noticed their neighbor's garden is full of flowers. There are so many wonderful blooms everywhere, full of color and interest that it was hard to focus on what I wanted to paint. At first I thought I wanted to paint a larger view of the garden, but decided against that and opted for this smaller, intimate view of a few of the flowers. I may still go back and do that larger view if I can work out a few of the compositional issues I ran into while considering it today.  www.georgedechiara.com

Still life in progress by Kay Wyne

Still Life in progress... Here are a couple of pics of a still life in progress. The set-up took alot of time and thought.... great color, texture, light, shadows and composition.    Don Sahli  and Sharon Hodges  spent quite a bit of  time setting upset it up this arrangement. Once Sharon started painting it,  I decided  I had to get in on the fun.  Don has a  great collection of beautiful fabrics, pottery and  antiques to choose from when setting up a still life for a painting...whether it is indoors or outdoors. I quickly blocked in the abstract shapes and started  on the colors.   After several hours, I am getting the colors, shadows,  light and shapes  on the canvas.  I have more to do today,  and can't wait to put more thick paint on.  More photos tomorrow....Thanks f...

KISS by Pamela Blaeis

Green Grapes 5" x 7" oil on linen panel The elegant shape of this bunch of grapes is what drew me to them. The long stem just adds to the charm. I challenged myself to find the right balance between detail and abstraction so that they would remain convincing, but not too literal. Starting with a large flat bristle brush (size 10), I painted an abstract underpainting - pretty much simple color shapes. Right away I could tell I liked the flow of the shapes on the canvas. I went to a size 6 mongoose flat brush and added a little more detail, being careful to step back often to see it from afar. Then I got my knife out to work on the stem and highlights. Such a simple composition, but it is probably my favorite piece this month!  BTW - I translate KISS as "Keep it Simple Silly" stupid is a bad word in our house:) I love to share my art and inspiration. "Coming Together" Textured Aspen Tree oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Coming Together" ©2013 Niki Gulley textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas • 40" x 30" In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. Choosing calming greens against a lavender-blue peaceful sky and arranging the two main aspens so that they meet in the middle, suggests a feeling of togetherness. While organizing the outlying trees in a circular pattern and using thick, curving, bold orange brushstrokes, creates a joyful, playful mood. Web -  NikiGulley.com  • E-mail -  Niki Gulley
