"Hobbs" the great blue heron was an injured bird with a mangled leg that was rehabilitated at the ARC, the Animal Rehabilitation Clinic on Mustang Island here near Corpus Christi. A volunteer worker who helped take care of Hobbs asked me to come do a photo shoot with him so that I could paint a commissioned piece for her. Though Hobbs was rehabbed and released into the wild, he returns every day for a fishy snack, and right on cue, he flew in for a treat. After completing the commission, I had tons of photos of Hobbs left, so he is now featured in a number of my paintings. This particular painting won an award in the spring 2012 Exhibition of the Watercolor Society of South Texas annual exhibition. This is one of a series of wildlife paintings that will be in a new one-woman solo exhibition "The Natural World" in the Kuchera Gallery at the Art Center of Corpus Christi, Texas for the month of November 2013.
