EMERGING

This is probably one of my very favorite paintings that I've done this past year while painting for my solo exhibition. I just love the visual texture of alligator hide, and being a South Louisiana native, these monstrous creatures are all too well known. I thoroughly enjoyed creating the textured pattern, putting my decades as a highway designer to good use while drawing the tributaries linking one are to the next, like a network of roads. I wanted this guy emerging from the pigment. I suspect it won't be the last of gator paintings I will do, but he will hang in the gallery, looking at a long wall of birds! This is one of a series of wildlife paintings that will be in a new one-woman solo exhibition "The Natural World" in the Kuchera Gallery at the Art Center of Corpus Christi, Texas for the month of November 2013.
