Texas Flag and Bluebonnets, by Melissa A. Torres, 9x9 acrylic on wood

This painting was done on a RedeemWood canvas. Doug Collins in Colorado aka RedeemWood, creates these beautiful canvases out of recycled palettes. This is my second painting on them. I love it.                                                                 www.melissatorresart.com                                                                               Facebook                                                                           ...

"Ruby Delights" Palette Knife Poppy Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"Ruby Delights" ©2015 Niki Gulley 24" x 12" textured mixed media on canvas  Inspired from a wonderful trip to Provence, I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. Set beneath floating clouds and an azure blue sky on a beautiful day in springtime with the poppies and wildflowers in full bloom, I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene. "Ruby Delights" and several of my contemporary impressionistic landscapes are also on display at the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. Winter White Tulips - Flower Painting Classes and Workshops by Nancy Medina Art

Winter White Tulips by Nancy Medina 16X16 Oil on Deep Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Videos France, Italy and the US - Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter I was rushing a bit to finish this painting, as my studio models were dipping, bowing, and few were actually fainting in the midst of their posing session. I offered them a glass of fresh water, fanned them and told them they looked stunningly beautiful under the bright lights, but, alas, some of them simply had no stamina. This is what happens when you starve yourself, living only on saltines and cashews, I told them quite sternly. I'll be curious to see if any of them get rest tonight, you know how models are, out partying all night with all the other beautiful flowers while the rest of us sit home on the couch watching Championship Jeopardy re-runs... The studio models ...

Niki Gulley is please to announce the opening of her new studio!!

I am super excited to announce the opening of my new studio. After years of working in a confined space, I now have more than enough room to work on several large paintings at a time, to teach my classes and display my artwork. It's been a dream come true! The studio is located just a mile south of my previous space, now in the White Rock Lake area.  The room has plenty of natural light, ventilation and easels. You can choose to paint standing or sitting down, whichever you prefer.  My goal is to make my students as comfortable as possible so they can really express themselves in their painting. Please visit my website for more information about upcoming classes and Art Treks.  I'd love to have you in my next class. Or, drop me an e-mail if you'd like to view some of my most recent paintings and you're in the DFW area. To see more of my palette knife contemporary landscape paintings, visit  nikigulley.com . Big Guy by Kay Wyne

Big Guy 30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Palette Knife Painting Today is Day # 29 in the 30/30 Painting Challenge Painted on a heavy-duty 2 1/2" thick gallery wrap canvas, this rooster is looking for a new home.  As you can see in this pic, the sides are painted and a frame is not necessary. Through out most of the painting, the paint was applied with thick, bold strokes with the palette knife.  The application of paint created texture on the canvas.  This contemporary rooster was named Big Guy because of his imposing stance.  The rooster is bold and bossy, and would be a conversation starter in any room.  Contact  Kay  with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at this blog!  Kay

Earth Child Geraniums - Flower Painting Classes and Workshops - Nancy Medina Art

Earth Child Geraniums by Nancy Medina 14X14 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Videos France, Italy and the US - Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter  Have you ever had one of those days in the studio where nothing you paint turns out right? I scumbled and wiped and mumbled through three canvases today before I finally settled on this geranium painting. I'm not sure why sometimes things flow, and sometimes it's like gears grinding. When the muses are singing, when things flow almost effortlessly onto the canvas, it's so nice, but it doesn't always happen, even when you've been painting every day for almost 7 years! Clearly, I need more chocolate in my diet or something....

Irises and Tulips 40"x40"x1.5" Acrylic on Canvas  Sold A couple of years ago, I received a beautiful bouquet of pink tulips and purple irises for Mother's Day.  I decided to take a few pictures of the arrangement and try to capture the lush colors on canvas.  After several days of working of this huge canvas, I finally reached that point when I knew I was finished and there was nothing more to add.   Today, the painting found a new home and I'm a little sad to see it go.  But, I know that it will go on to bring a little color, and hopefully, some joy to someone else.  **********   I'm thrilled to announce that I will be the guest on Artists Helping Artists tomorrow, January 29  at 12:00 noon PST I hope you will tune in!  Click here for more information!   ********** Original abstract painting by Texas Contemporary Abstract Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth Print...

Oil Painting of Prissy Dog

Oil Painting of Prissy, a Pretty Dog PRISSY oil on canvas panel copyright V. Bridges Hoyt 2009 Looking Back at a Daily Painting of Prissy Dog I came across this painting as I was cleaning out some image files. This was painted in 2009 when I was into completion of a painting a day. At the time I was turning out paintings at a fast pace and I barely had time to look at and critique a painting before it was listed and sold. When I stumbled across the painting of Prissy, I smiled. The painting was much prettier than I remembered it. Sometimes we need to slow down and observe what we are doing, not hurry the paintings out the door. I would have enjoyed having Prissy hanging on my own gallery wall for a few months, but the painting of Prissy went to a good home in Kansas, and for that I am glad. I'm Listening! by Kay Wyne

I'm Listening! 20" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas This contemporary bovine is  my work for Day # 25 in the 30/30 Paint Challenge . This is a good looking short-horn was at the LBJ Ranch, and I loved the way the left ear was perked up as if he was listening to our conversation.  I have had this Hereford sitting on my easel for a month or so...I think I am finished with it.  Here is a close up of the right ear: I really liked the way the ear turned out...actually it is my favorite part about this painting!  I will let this one dry in the studio, and maybe make a few modifications here and there, but I signed it, and it is pretty much finished.  I don't know what I will be working on tomorrow, but as you can see the month of January is coming to an end....only five more posts on the challenge!  If you have any comments or questions, please contact  Kay Wyne .  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Kay

Blowing In The Wind by Kay Wyne

Blowing In The Wind 30" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Aspens - Palette Knife Painting Day # 25 in the 30/30 Paint Challenge My painting for the paint challenge was a scraper.  Just didn't make the cut, so I am posting one of my contemporary aspen paintings.  I usually choose a square or vertical format for my aspens, but Blowing In The Wind is on a heavy duty (thick and chunky) horizontal stretcher bars.  I used bold colors, brushes and the palette knife.  The trees are thick and textured, as are the leaves that are falling.  This painting is for sale....contact  Kay  for purchasing information.  It is ready for a new home!  Thanks, Kay

Violet Ballet Irises and Delphiniums by Nancy Medina 16X16 Palette Knife/Oil on Deep Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Videos France, Italy and the US - Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter . Violet Ballet is the newest daily painting in Flower Mound Studio. I just got a big shipment of deep gallery wrap canvases, and had been wanting to try something in the 16X16 size for quite some time. I love the size, it's just right for big, bold color! It's hard to get a good photograph of a palette knife painting, the paint is so thick and textured. On the surface, it looks like icing on a cake, if one were to eat a purple and blue cake, that is...  One of the things I focused on in this composition was to place a strong horizontal element (the deep dark blue purple) in order to counter all of the vertical elements (the dancing irises and delp...

Bull Creek Escape....Rae Andrews

Bull Creek Escape began with a lovely day's walk and paddling in the water with the puppies. I took several photos this day which was back in the summer months. I think everyone knows how I love painting water in any form, so this will not come as a surprise to see. However, that being said, this is done on BLACK VELOUR paper! A double whammy! I challenged myself to do the black paper, not a color I usually choose for a pastel, and especially not velour paper. One has to be very sure of the drawing, hence I chose water as my subject. At least I am very comfortable painting this action type of painting which will also be in my book in step-by-step form. The format is 25.5" x 10.5" (unframed) $450 plus S/H Prints are also available at Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/bull-creek-escape-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true

New Bluebonnet Palette Knife Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"April Rhythms," Texas Hill Country  ©2014 Niki Gulley 36" x 35" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of our berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, April Rhythms is loaded with texture, color and movement. Repeating patterns, shapes and hues in the blooms, sky and distant mesquite trees unite foreground and background and add to the harmony of spring's symphony. South View

South View Manvel, Texas 6" x 8" Oil on Panel Randall Cogburn To Purchase email me. Price: $150 + s/h The clouds on this day just started to open up late evening. The photo below of the setup doesn't show that as the camera blew out the sky, bright white as the focal length was pretty short. However, your in luck as I painted it just like I saw it and tweaked it from memory once I got home. Mostly just to tidy it up a bit. Yesterday it was a gusher for this area and a lot of fields were flooded and still are as the ground was still pretty wet from the previous week. This usually doesn't happen this time of year that I know of, usually summer or fall.
