 Vanishing Violet Irises

Palette Knife/Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

First thing this morning after checking in at the studio/office with the bosses/pugs, I set out in my business casual bathrobe to the back yard post haste with a pair of scissors. My mission, not to frighten the neighbors (although this is sometimes the result of these types of excursions), but to rescue my purple irises from the impending ice storm. Apologizing profusely as I snipped their bright stems as low to the ground as I dared without damaging the mama plants, I hastily rushed these four beauties indoors to fresh water resuscitation in a glass vase. Tonight they held up quite well under my hot studio lights, just long enough to inspire a bit of color, flare, and fun purple splash onto a nearby canvas. Stay tuned, tomorrow we could be in for more violet, if these ladies do not vanish overnight.

The Old Mill Study, Barbara Haviland

#mill,#water,#building,#11x14,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com This painting was part of a study.  We had the photo and I painted it then watched the demo. I always do that.  I like to change my painting up a bit. It is painted on a hardboard panel that has canvas adhered to it.  I have used this method for years. I don't care for the spring of a stretched canvas.  Thanks for viewing my art ~~Barbara Available  GALLERY INFO Barbara Haviland Fine Art 1579 County Road 1010 Woodville, Texas 75979 409-332-0141 Website

Central Fire Station Lake Charles, La Barbara Haviland

CENTRAL FIRE STATION LAKE CHARLES, LA #CentralFireStation,#HIstoric,#Building,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com Central Fire Station  no longer exists in  Lake Charles, La.  I had some old photos that I used to paint this painting.   24"x40"  and it is signed and framed, but you must come pick it up. I was told that the station burned down and they built another.
I haven’t posted here in a long time, partly because my artistic endeavors have taken a turn toward quilting instead of painting.   But this quilt started as a painting which I had printed on fabric and then turned it into a quilt.  So maybe I can slip it into the blog!  If you are interested in seeing more, let me know!
