Contemporary Floral Painting

Starting with a photograph of John's roses, I quickly added some other flowers to the canvas. This painting is bold, colorful and graphic. It has brushstrokes that you can see, along with palette knife work, both creating lots of texture. This painting is hanging at the studio drying, and while I may make some minor changes, it is completed. The thick paint will take a while to dry, and then I will need to varnish. I like to change my painting up a bit. It is painted on a hardboard panel that has canvas adhered to it. I have used this method for years. I don't care for the spring of a stretched canvas. I had some old photos that I used to paint this painting. 24"x40" and it is signed and framed, but you must come pick it up. I was told that the station burned down and they built another.

I haven’t posted here in a long time, partly because my artistic endeavors have taken a turn toward quilting instead of painting. But this quilt started as a painting which I had printed on fabric and then turned it into a quilt. So maybe I can slip it into the blog! If you are interested in seeing more, let me know!
