"On the Rocker U" Oil on panel, 8"x10" This painting was started en plein air on the Rocker U ranch northwest of Del Rio a couple years ago. I didn't get very far with it at the time but since decided to work on it from memory mostly. It is a very simple composition but somehow this painting captivates me. Bucket List by Bruce Bingham 12 x 12 plein air oil There is so much I have to be grateful for and recently I've been feeling extra lucky. I was so honored and fortunate to become a finalist in the Sedona Art Prize October 2016!!! I was thrilled beyond words to be selected by judge  Carl Dalio . I was doing a picnic theme at the time and this one was  particularly fun to paint. It's one that I really felt good about, especially the bag of chips, do I've entered it multiple competitions. 12" x 12" Red Roses  by  Niki Gulley  textured oil painting on canvas  I painted these roses from the still life with extremely thick paint and palette knife. The resulting canvas is loaded with texture, color and energy! I've painted it on 1 and 1/2 inch deep stretcher bars, with the image continuing around the edges so that it can be hung as is frameless for a contemporary look.  This floral looks great hung alone to brighten up a little spot, or in a grouping with some of my other contemporary flower paintings. I did a boot sketch and the owner of the boots liked the sketch and said just throw some lights or something and make a card with it. So thanks to Gouache i could do that. It turned out cute for a western Christmas card.  The Tag will have Merry Christmas on it. They have a cute dog, named Fuzz, and he will be on the inside with the verse.

I had this odd off cut of paper, and have no idea what it was though. It's a dark maroon color and is sanded. Any ideas? Anyway, I had mounted it onto some archival foam core a few years ago so why not use it? The format is quite elongated and poses problems or should I say, challenges to the artist, composition wise. I chose to do just tall brambles and grasses, really playing with the various textures. I used an alcohol wash under painting in parts, let it dry and then worked the pastels over the top. I don't usually do this technique of underneath washes, but this paper took the wet media so why not? I hope you like it. I have just returned from a fabulous few days at my buddy's lake house on Lake Sam Rayburn in southeast Texas.  Thanks Vicki, for having us all! Wow! The morning and afternoon walks with my puppies were delightful, and the scenery was superb, so expect more beachscapes from me in the future.
