Queen of the Roses, by Melissa A. Torres, 8x10 oil on canvas

Day of the Dead, or Dia de Los Muertos in Spanish is a Mexican holiday which  focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. It begins on October 31 and ends on November 2.

Altars  are built which contain the favorite foods and beverages, as well as photos and memorabilia, of the departed.  You will see there are several festivals where the holiday is celebrated.

This, as well as many of my other paintings are available on FineArtAmerica.com as prints and other merchandise.

The Old Mill Study, Barbara Haviland

#mill,#water,#building,#11x14,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com This painting was part of a study.  We had the photo and I painted it then watched the demo. I always do that.  I like to change my painting up a bit. It is painted on a hardboard panel that has canvas adhered to it.  I have used this method for years. I don't care for the spring of a stretched canvas.  Thanks for viewing my art ~~Barbara Available  GALLERY INFO Barbara Haviland Fine Art 1579 County Road 1010 Woodville, Texas 75979 409-332-0141 Website

Central Fire Station Lake Charles, La Barbara Haviland

CENTRAL FIRE STATION LAKE CHARLES, LA #CentralFireStation,#HIstoric,#Building,#BarbaraHavilandFineArt.com Central Fire Station  no longer exists in  Lake Charles, La.  I had some old photos that I used to paint this painting.   24"x40"  and it is signed and framed, but you must come pick it up. I was told that the station burned down and they built another.
I haven’t posted here in a long time, partly because my artistic endeavors have taken a turn toward quilting instead of painting.   But this quilt started as a painting which I had printed on fabric and then turned it into a quilt.  So maybe I can slip it into the blog!  If you are interested in seeing more, let me know!
