Good Morning Sunflowers, New Contemporary Landscape Painting by Sheri Jones

Good Morning Sunflowers 16x12 oil on canvas There is a spot on the banks of Benbrook lake that has my heart. In the summer it is filled with wildflowers. It has views in every direction and is a place our group of artist meet to paint. It is the subject of many of my landscapes.  This is available for purchase. Please email me if you are interested. OLD FRIENDS

This is a larger version of a subject I've painted a couple of times over the past four years.  Compositionally, it's the same, but I have tried to apply what I have learned since then. Painting is not a fixed tool set. And if you're actively and regularly exploring, your skills continue to evolve and improve, making the whole process fresh and enjoyable.  This subject is like an old friend to me, and I was ready to visit it again.  Should auld acquaintance be forgot?  HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all! Like Music Adrift..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Hi again, I am finally able to get back to a post on this blog. My hubby has been in hospital yet again, and my life is just very scattered right now, so no time for painting. Grrr! I started this one about three days ago. It is a 19.5" x 25.5" pastel on red Sennelier sanded paper (unframed). This one was cathartic for me, with all the stress over the last few months. Just to paint again has been a real treat! I love to paint water in any form as you may realize, and this rock pool (without the shells) was on Maui . I again 'sparked up my colors using Photoshop on my photo.  I used my own shell collection to pop in a little more interest.  I hope you like it. It was a fun image to paint. $450 plus S/H Prints of this image are available through Fine Art America: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/like-music-adrift-rae-andrews.html?newartwork=true Rae works and teaches in all mediums.. please contact her through her website at:    ...

Model in a Red and Green Robe - figurative oil painting of a model

Well, I guess this is kind of Christmasy in color, anyway - green robe with red.  Anyway, I did love painting this piece  - it's on Fredrix Paint Board - a surface I really like.  To see more of my artwork, please click here to visit my blog.

Bullrider Sketch - ink and watersoluble pencil rodeo drawing

This drawing is one that I did at a rodeo (albeit a total shorthand version that only I could decipher) and then worked over it loosely with ink and water-soluble pencil.  I thought this bull rider was about to bite the dust, but then he righted himself and lasted for eight.  This one is on 6 x 6" Bristol paper.  To see more of my artwork, please click  here  to visit my blog.

Ireland Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

9" x 12" oil painting by Niki Gulley Day 6:   Ireland ART TREK Afternoon location: Dingle Peninsula & Killarney Castle Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams On the 6th afternoon of Ireland Art Trek, we continued to paint on the castle grounds while the photographers and tourists finished exploring the Dingle Peninsula. I chose to paint the castle's guest house because I love how it was nestled back in the woods, feeling so nostalgic of a visit to grandma's in the country. The massive unusual pine trees were so awe-inspiring that I used them to frame the right half of the scene, leading your eye down the path to the yellow house safely tucked in amongst the lush foliage. A soft light would appear off and on, illuminating the scene and creating that unique Irish light. That evening we all reconnected and dined again on another delicious dinner in town. Dining in the castle bar. *** If you...

Day 6, Ireland Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

9" x 12" oil painting by Niki Gulley Day 6:   Ireland ART TREK Morning location: Dingle Peninsula & Killarney Castle Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams The next day of our Ireland Art Trek, the photographers and tourists ventured out to tour the Dingle Peninsula with its craggy coves, cute fishing villages and spectacular ocean views, stopping at castles,  Dingle town, waterfalls and various landmarks along the way. My painters wanted to stay at our castle grounds and paint right where we were lodging because the scenery was so beautiful. For our morning location, we set up our easels in the castle's garden. The brilliance of the various greens was so intense that I had to capture that along with this romantic gazebo beckoning you to sit down and enjoy the view. Ethereal Dance..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I think if I were to describe my technique in any medium I use, on the whole, it would be OVERLAPPING and LAYERING . With pastels this is, at times difficult, as it's an opaque medium; however one just has to use a light touch to get those underneath nuances to show through. I began this with a totally abstract colorful start. I did not know what I would end up with. I just went with the flow. The substrate is a red earth colored Sennelier paper. I began with this.. I switched the image around in several directions, and kept doing that as the image progressed.  I have a large shell collection and thought I would go with that as a subject. Over the top of my abstract beginnings, I drew some of my shells to intersect and overlap. Now the fun begins! I like to work in a  NEGATIVE PINTING  technique with most all of my work, and the shells developed in much the same way. Don't let anyone ever tell you that ABSTRACTS a...

Day 5, Ireland Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

9" x 12" oil painting by Niki Gulley Day 5:   Ireland ART TREK Killarney Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams On the next morning of our Ireland Art Trek, we left for Killarney, making a pit stop in the adorable thatch-roofed town of Adare. After exploring and grabbing lunch, we drove onto our lodging for the next few nights, a 16th century castle, fit for a king! Dinner was also delicious that evening in the castle's dining room. *** If you're interested in joining us on one of upcoming Art Treks, please let us know.  Spaces fill up quickly!
