Cloud Dreams 8x10 oil on canvas Watching clouds on a lazy summer day brings a sense of peace and comfort for me.  Do you take time to watch the clouds floating by? Yellow Spring Day 8x10 oil on canvas This joyful scene is in one my favorite painting locations in Benbrook, Texas. The yellow flowers dominated the landscape in this scene. "Rooted Together" ©2019 Niki Gulley 24" x 12"  textured oil paint on wrap around canvas Rooted Together was inspired from a trip we took to Monet’s Gardens outside of Paris. Being a lover of impressionist paintings, I was awestruck standing in the footsteps of one of my favorite painters! The gardens have been maintained immacuately and I could see exactly where he painted his paintings. I’ve always loved purple irises and was particularly drawn to this view, with the irises large in the foreground and all of the colorful blooms leading up to his house behind them. Painted with thick oil paint and palette knife, this canvas is loaded with texture, surprising pops of color and energy. "Visions of Blue III," Texas Hill Country  ©2018 Niki Gulley SOLD •  24" x 12" textured oil painting Just Sold!  I painted these Texas Bluebonnets and wildflowers with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve depth and texture. The resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and energy. In this vertical wildflower series, I've framed the paintings in espresso floater frames so that you can still see the textured oil paint continuing around the edges of the canvas. These Texas wildflowers look great hung alone or in a grouping with the rest of the "Visions of Blue" series, too! Red Buds Blooming 10x8 oil on canvas I continue my study of color in these small landscape paintings. Since it is time for the red bud trees to bloom I wanted to explore the color in the blooms. They look purple in the landscape, but when you get closer they take on a hot pick color. Or a mix of the two. I will keep practicing to produce that perfect combo. I did post a video of the start of this painting. I love exaggerating the colors of the objects I paint but in this painting I tried to calm them down. I wanted to express the feeling of rest after going through a “storm”. The inspiration for this was an area in Houston that had been under water. As the water was receding and the clouds clearing the birds found food and in the stillness a beautiful glow of warm light blanketed the area. The light transformed the darkness and revealed the softened harmony of the landscape that was still standing after the crisis. The area was changed but I loved looking at the surviving trees and reflecting on how we weather storms and gather strength as the Light covers us and leads us through. "Relaxation Awaits II"  • 9" x 12" textured oil painting   ©2018 Niki Gulley Vermont Fall Foliage Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams Day 5 - Stowe, VT On the last day of our New England Fall Foliage Art Trek that my husband, Scott Williams, and I taught, we painters stayed right at our b and b to capture the beautiful views of fall foliage in all its splendor. I decided to paint this view out back, since I'd been admiring it every day of the trip. It was a gorgeous morning with vibrant fall colors frosting the foliage. This set of Adirondack chairs was so inviting, just welcoming you to sit, relax and enjoy the view. Long side lighting created dramatic shadows and a glow to the grasses. I hope you can escape and rejuvenate with me! While we painted, everyone else went into Stowe to shop, explore and photograph some more. "Split Rail Fence"  • 9" x 12" textured oil painting   ©2018 Niki Gulley Vermont Fall Foliage Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams Day 4 - Stowe, VT On the fourth day of our New England Fall Foliage Art Trek, we headed to the top of Stowe Mountain to explore. The painters set out to capture this gorgeous forest ablaze with color. I loved the split rail fence lining the walkway. Meanwhile, the photographers and tourists ventured on foot through the forest and then continued to explore by car the surrounding area, picking us up for lunch on their return.  That afternoon we visited local cheese and cider companies tasting Vermont's treats. In the evening we enjoyed viewing everyone's paintings and watching the photographers' slide shows from the week. Afterwards we delighted in one last dinner together. Hard to believe but the inspiration for this painting was a view of an area that was dry, with dead leaves and very few patches of green. I decided to paint this as I imagined it could be, filled with color and exaggerated brushstrokes on a vibrant red background. Yes, now this tells the story of what it could be or even what the area’s true identity really is.... Sometimes what our eyes perceive is not the whole truth, maybe there is more? Azalea's Design 12x9 oil on canvas This was inspired from a photo I took at the Ft. Worth Japanese Gardens. We were there for a wedding and had the opportunity to wander through the garden. The sun was setting casting a glow to the blooming bushes. Pink Blossoms 18x14 oil on canvas This saucer magnolia blooms are one of the first of the trees to show their color.  When I was close to the park I drove by often to check the blooming status on these trees. I would go back with my painting gear and paint them during my lunch hour.  I was happy to paint this one  in the studio and loved the opportunity to take my time and build this up with layers and texture. "Autumn Passage" ©2018 Niki Gulley 9" x 12" textured oil painting  Vermont Fall Foliage Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams Day 3, Morning Location - Northfield, VT On the third day of our New England Fall Foliage Art Trek that my husband and I led, we checked out of our lodging in Woodstock and headed to Northfield, home of 5 different covered bridges. We set up our easels near one of the bridges, attracted to its bright red wood, surrounded by the gorgeous fall foliage. I loved this view of the first bridge framing the second ruby bridge in the distance – something we definitely don't see in Texas!
