"Lower Falls" ©2019 Niki Gulley SOLD  • 5" x 7” textured oil painting Just Sold!  My husband and I both LOVE waterfalls, and we try to visit them whenever we can find them on our adventures. This beautiful cascade turned out to be right in my husband's backyard where he grew up. We were in New York visiting his hometown, and having grown up in a city, I couldn't believe this gorgeous spectacle was right outside his door! Not far from Niagara falls, this massive water flow crashed and glided along the intricate rock formations rushing into the river far below. The sound of water rushing was so energetic and peaceful at the same time, and I wanted to capture that invigorating feeling in my painting. Setting up my easel at its base, I set out to recreate the energy and flow of the cascades while showing some of the lush vegetation surrounding them. Silent water is ruffled by a gentle breeze. Arching over, bending into the quiet waters, a tree arches into the scene – encompassing, embracing. This painting captures the dreamy reflections and tranquil landscape of one of my favorite spots to paint on location near my home. It is painted in the traditional plein air oil manner, incorporating some heavy texture with palette knife. Sisters is a term I view as one of endearment. I don't have sisters as in siblings but I do have close relationships with women that I view as "sisters". "Cottage in the Woods," Slovenia ©2019 Niki Gulley SOLD  • 9" x 12" oil painting Slovenia and Croatia Art Trek - Day 4 Led by Niki Gulley and Scott Williams Just Sold!  For our next adventure on our Slovenia and Croatia Art Trek, we crossed back over the border into Slovenia again to land at the Idyllic town of Bled. Set on a peaceful, picturesque lake, the town is almost like a fairytale come to life. That evening, we visited Bled Castle, perched above town with incredible views of the area spreading out below. "Ross Castle" ©2019 Niki Gulley 9" x 12" textured oil painting Day 7:   Ireland ART TREK Afternoon location: Ross Castle, Killarney Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams On the last afternoon of our Ireland Art Trek, we visited Ross Castle. While the photographers explored the castle and grounds, the painters set up their easels to capture this majestic view of the castle and lake. Although we didn't have enough time to finish, you can get idea of the overall scene and the fast moving clouds with a tiny patch of blue sky poking through. Afterwards, we enjoyed a peaceful boat tour of the lake and came back to our home base, to share our photos and paintings of our trip. What a great way to end a wonderful Art Trek with new friends! "Peaceful Courtyard" ©2019 Niki Gulley SOLD  • 12" x 9" oil painting Cinque Terre and Lake Como Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams Day 1: Monterosso / the 5 Village Hike Just Sold!  We were greeted in Cinque Terre with gorgeous sunny weather, so the photographers and tourists headed out on our first morning on the 5 mile scenic hike high above, linking the five cities of the Cinque Terre, taking in breathtaking scenery along the way. With our paint gear, we opted to stay in Monterosso and capture this beautiful quiet courtyard, with its soft dappled light and lovely plantings. That evening we connected with the hikers and enjoyed a delicious dinner of fresh caught seafood, local pesto and pasta, and tasty Italian wine. "After The Fog Clears" is what I think to myself at times when there is just too much going on and I need to slow down and maybe even stop for a moment. This painting was inspired by a scene in my neighborhood that I saw after the morning fog was slowing clearing out. I found myself restless as I stopped and waited to see a clearer view of my surroundings. I later realized that the view I experienced during the time spent waiting was beautiful in it's serenity and deserved to be captured. I tried to express the calm by using a narrow range of colors (wasn't easy as I LOVE to use LOTS of color!) . I need to remember that the slow, foggy chapters of my life story have a purpose and it is for my good no matter how unclear at the time. Maybe painting this scene will help me remember? With acres of woodland, gardens and lakeside views, the photographers and tourists explored while us painters set up our easels in front of the manor house and colorful formal gardens. A challenging scene to capture with so much going on, we did our best to set the scene on our 9x12 canvases. "Jagged Edges" ©2019  Niki Gulley 7" x 5" textured oil painting After teaching our Ireland Art Trek, my husband and I stayed a couple of extra days on the Dingle Peninsula on the west coast of Ireland. That day I chose to pull in tight on my composition of these jagged rocks and the waves crashing against them.
