After living in a city surrounded by concrete and noise, I find being surrounded by mother nature to be extremely cathartic, peaceful and rejuvenating. In Forest Edge, I wanted to capture those feelings of happiness and tranquility. Working first with thin drippy paint, and then building up thick layers of oil paint with palette knives to achieve extreme dimension, this painting is loaded with movement, energy and color.   "Rhythm Reflections" ©2020 Niki Gulley 36" x 60" textured oil painting on canvas There is nothing like living in a concrete jungle to make you appreciate nature. Being outside and having the natural surrounding envelope you is pure joy. I love looking at reflections, the shimmering quality that it gives everything just adds to the magic. That is what I wanted to capture in this scene, a flow between the real and the perceived real, where I could play with paint through various techniques of thin and thick, along with drips. Autumn Aspen by Sheri Jones 9x12 oil on panel Sold I am always happy with a painting goes home with a new collector and old friend. Thank you!  I created this while painting with the Outdoor Painters Society in Colorado. This was painted off Turkey Creek Road outside of Pagosa Springs. It was an isolated spot and a wonderful place to spend the day.  I loved this cluster of aspens intertwined with the beautiful fall leaves.   “Symphony in Springtime V" ©2020 Niki Gulley 24" x 24" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas I wanted to show Texas' spring landscape in a completely different way. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the bluebonnets and wildflowers along with their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way. With an aura of mystery, late day light touches the tops of the grasses and hills with glimmers of hope. One of the things that I think about as I meditate, other than getting better, is letting painting ideas come to me. Sweeping Mountain Views by Sheri Jones 14x7 oil on canvas Getting lost on the back roads of Pagosa Springs we saw sweeping views of the mountains and warm fall colors. We stopped many times to photograph the beautiful landscape. It was a fun exercise to use those photos once I returned home. The meandering path through the aspens with the filtered light seems to pull you along and you can almost hear the sound of the leaves quaking in the breeze.
