New "Villa View" Painting from Tuscany by Impressionist Niki Gulley

View from our Villa, Tuscany ©2021 Niki Gulley  9" x 12" textured oil painting  While leading our Tuscany Foodie Trek, I set up my easel to capture this gorgeous view of the distant hills and farmhouse that we see from our breakfast table each morning. With a few clouds drifting by, the sun kept illuminating the foreground Rapeseed and making the hills glow gold and chartreuse. I liked the single farmhouse set against the distant mountains and the one lone cypress growing in the middle of all that yellow. What a perfect morning! That evening for a delicious meal of melted pecorino and homemade rustic bread, pici (hand rolled pasta) with wild boar sauce or truffle ravioli for others, fresh organic vegetables and of course the local red wine to top it off! *** If you're interested in joining us on one of our upcoming Art Treks or Foodie Treks to Iceland or Tuscany, please let us know.  Spaces fill up quickly! Contemporary Landscape, Tree Painting, "Don't Forget", By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

We can be so busy moving ahead and yearning to reach goals we think need to be met that we forget what is important. My grandfather said to me once, "you don't have to make all the mistakes, lean on the wisdom of others, learn from their mistakes!" I was inspired to create a scene that felt progressive and moving forward, but at the same time revealing a glimpse of a bit of the past, an old building, a previous home or safe place. Sometimes the answers are right where we started and we must not forget that. No matter our beginnings, they are our history, the landscape of our life story! 30"x30"x2" Mixed Media on Canvas/Available Click HERE for purchase info. "Morning Shadows" Textured Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Morning Shadows," Provence ©2020  Niki Gulley SOLD • 12" x 9" textured oil painting Just sold!  On the first night of our Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop that my husband, Scott Williams, and I led in southern France, we arrived at our B and B and went into town that evening for a wine tasting and amazing dinner at a Michelin-star restaurant. The food was out of this world, the weather was perfect for dining outside, and our new group was great company! The next morning, our painters stayed at our b and b and painted right there since the grounds were so beautiful. The light raking across the balcony and shutters was so dramatic, and I loved how the gnarly trees framed the composition to make a window within a window. Meanwhile, the photographers visited a nearby 11th century Abbey and took some incredible photographs. We met up later that day and headed to the nearby town of Arles for lunch. Wine tasting in Provence. For more information on upcoming T...

Waterfall Palette Knife Painting from Iceland by Niki Gulley

"Falling Water II", Skógafoss, Iceland ©2021 Niki Gulley 12" x 16” textured oil painting Another day, another waterfall. This was and ideal location, especially since I just had to walk out of my hotel and the waterfall was right there. It gave me a great opportunity to paint during every time of day and under different conditions. It was amazing being up close and hearing the thundering of water and feeling the light touch of the mist. To see more of my contemporary impressionistic landscape paintings, visit  nikigulley.com . "Falling Water III" Palette Knife Painting of Iceland by Niki Gulley

"Falling Water III" ©2021 Niki Gulley 12" x 9” textured oil painting Iceland is pretty much  dotted with waterfalls, so I was in heaven! We had heard about this one that was back beyond our hotel, so we set off on an adventure. Our journey started by climbing up a platform to get over a fence and then it was a hike along the river to get to the falls. It turned out to be a beautiful setting, o ther than the midges that would swarm when the sun came out, making it an otherwise perfect afternoon! Reykavik Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Reykjavik" ©2021  Niki Gulley 9" x 12" textured oil painting on panel  We decided to end our Iceland journey by stopping in  Reykjavik for a little sightseeing. One of the things that we wanted to do was go up in the church tower for the sweeping views of the city and harbor. What I was struck by was the brightly colored houses that dotted the city and made for a nice patchwork pattern of hues. "Ice Drift" Palette Knife Painting of Iceland's Iceburgs by Niki Gulley

"Ice Drift" ©2021 Niki Gulley 9" x 12” textured oil painting Our journey around Iceland brought us to the unique lagoons in the southern part of this beautiful country. I was just mesmerized by these frozen monoliths lazily floating in their icy wonderland. The shapes and colors created all kinds of dazzling patterns and geometry to work with. This one in particular grabbed my attention set against the dark mountain in the background.  If you're interested in purchasing this painting, just follow this link    http://www.nikigulley.com/ ice-drift / . Colorful Contemporary Landscape Painting, Abstract Landscape, Tree,Small Painting, Daily Painter, “Choose Color“ by Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

This painting is one of my smaller ones and I did it as an experiment to see how it would look to just "Choose Color" that is unexpected. I enjoy looking at the painting and now it just seems like a normal day in my studio, experiment time! I don't remember when I decided to give myself permission to be adventurous with the colors of my subjects but I believe as creators we should try new directions occasionally. I do try to work on good composition and a few other design elements to provide harmony even if my colors are exaggerated . Do you ever push the limits? Do you test the norm? When is it ok to do so? 8"x8"x1/8" Mixed Media on Panel/Available Click HERE for purchase info. Painting the Black Church in Iceland by Niki Gulley

"The Black Church," Iceland ©2020 Niki Gulley SOLD • 5" x 7” textured oil painting Just sold!  After disappointing weather in the north, we continued our adventure around the country to the west, finishing our trip on the Snaefellnes Peninsula. My husband loves architecture so the first stop on our itinerary was to visit the famous Black Church. Being the only church made of black construction material on the island, its distinctive appearance stands out rising out of a relatively large, flat plateau. I wanted to capture not only its color and shape, but the dramatic clouds surrounding it. Working with palette knife and thick oil paint, this little piece is loaded with texture, color and movement.  To see more of my contemporary impressionistic landscape paintings, visit  nikigulley.com . Edinburgh Castle Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Edinburgh Castle" ©2021 Niki Gulley 12" x 9” textured oil painting Scotland Art Trek –  Second Day: Edinburgh Led by Niki Gulley and Scott Williams On the second day of our plein air painting and photography trip to Scotland, we spent a second day in Edinburgh, exploring the scenery some more. I took the painters further down the Princess Gardens so that we could get a good view of Edinburgh Castle perched high above town. Each student captured the looming structure in a slightly different, unique, beautiful way. Meanwhile the photographers covered a lot of ground, capturing Holyrood Palace, Calton Hill and the Miracle Mile. That afternoon we gave everyone free time to explore on their own. Some visited the castle, some shopped and some photographed some more. After dinner, the Military Tattoo was going on at the castle so many of our group got the once in a lifetime chance to take in that experience, too! Painting Edinburgh Castle. "Peaks and Valleys" Palette Knife Painting from Isle of Skye by Niki Gulley

"Peaks and Valleys" ©2021 Niki Gulley 12" x 16” textured oil painting Scotland Art Trek –  Days 5: Isle of Skye - Quiraing Led by Niki Gulley and Scott Williams Next up on our Scotland Art Trek itinerary was a morning stop at the Quiraing, a unique area filled with high cliffs, hidden plateaus and unusual rock formations. Allowing a full morning for my painters to capture the land's unique beauty, everyone did an amazing job! I chose this vantage point with some of the purple heather growing in the foreground, adding a nice color contrast to all of that lush greenery. The photographers hiked all around, capturing unique angles and then we all treated ourselves to lunch. Afterwards, we stopped at Mealt Falls to take in the waterfall's power and beauty, and then we finished the day back in Portree. Photographers searching for that perfect angle to capture the Quiraing's beauty. Our Scotland Art Treks group enjoying a delicious dinner together. *** To see more...

Irish Garden Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Formal Garden," Ireland ©2021 Niki Gulley 9" x 12" textured oil painting Day 6:   Ireland ART TREK Morning location: Dingle Peninsula & Killarney Castle Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams The next day of our Ireland Art Trek, the photographers and tourists ventured out to tour the Dingle Peninsula with its craggy coves, cute fishing villages and spectacular ocean views, stopping at castles,  Dingle town, waterfalls and various landmarks along the way. My painters wanted to stay at our castle grounds and paint right where we were lodging because the scenery was so beautiful. For our morning location, we set up our easels in the castle's garden. The brilliance of the various greens was so intense that I had to capture that along with this romantic gazebo beckoning you to sit down and enjoy the view. Our photographers and tourists visiting the Dingle Peninsula. If you're interested in purchasing this painting,...

Contemporary Impressionistic Floral Landscape Palette Knife Original Oil Painting by Sheri Jones

Poppies in the Sunrise 10x20 oil on canvas This painting was inspired from a garden on a very busy road. When I saw the bright red poppies, I turned around.  This garden also had roses, peonies and small yellow flowers. Add all that and the rising sun was a painting in the makings.   Using the palette knife and carving this scene out was a fun exercise.
