Roseate Spoonbills by Texas Artists Ann Hoffpauir

Roseate Spoonbills   The Roseate Spoonbill is a very colorful bird.   Their unusual bill gives it its name.   They use their bill to scoop or spoon up small fish and whatever else they can catch.   These spoonbills were painted from photos taken while staying in Rockport , Texas .   This area in Texas is a migratory gateway for several species of birds.   It’s a wonderful area for bird, wildlife artists and photographers.      These spoonbills are painted on 140lb. watercolor paper.   The size is 5 x 7 1/2 The price is $75.00.   Thank you for viewing my art.          ...

Monarch Butterfly Painting at Dutch Art Gallery

“Winged Royalty” ©2011 Barbara J. Mason 16"x20" ” carved watercolor painting This time of year I love seeing the monarch butterflies just before they migrate south to warmer climate. Their free spirited flight and bold colored wings are captivating to watch. In this painting I have carved and manipulated the paper to give the butterfly wings a 3-d effect. When the image is viewed up close different portions project and stand out from the background. Your eyes are suddenly following along with the movement of the paper folds creating a colorful pattern of flight, much like that of the "winged royalty" monarch butterfly. I have several of these uniquely "carved watercolor paintings "available at "Spirit of Texas" art exhibit at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, TX. The exhibit is open from Nov. 4th through Dec. 31st, 2011. Opening Reception: November 5th, 11am-4pm http://dutchartusa.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=390_398 E-mail Barbara ...

Poppy Painting by Niki Gulley at the Dutch Art Gallery

“Bursting with Color” ©2011 Niki Gulley Two 24” x 24” textured oil paintings on canvas to form a 24” x 48” diptych I love it when we are driving leisurely through the countryside and we come across a gorgeous field of wildflowers. The sudden burst of color thrills your senses! Playing with color and texture, I feel like this poppy painting radiates with energy and captures the joy you feel on one of the first beautiful days of spring. With this series, you can purchase either the left or the right painting to hang alone or display both side by side to form a panorama diptych. E-mail Niki Gulley for more information on her textured floral paintings. Fountain at the Botanical Garden - An original oil painting by George De Chiara

Fountain at the Botanical Garden 6x8 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid. Opening bid just one penny!  I painted this over the weekend at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. This is the fountain that's at the end of the trellis in the Rose Garden. I was struck by the sharp contrast of the fountain water shooting through the air against the background that's mostly in shadow. Plus, there's the added benefit of the wonderful color of the fountain pool water. At first I passed this scene by, thinking it wouldn't make a good painting, or, rather, that I wouldn't be able to make a good painting out of it. I was worried about having the shooting water be such a dominant element in the composition. I knew if I didn't handle that correctly, it would take over the painting and possible divide my canvas. After looking around at a few other possible locations, I finally decided to just go for it and paint the scene that I really wan...

Fogged Out by Sheri Jones

Fogged Out by Sheri Jones 9x12 oil on canvas I painted this at Hunter Park on Lake Granbury Saturday morning. It was a foggy morning and the drive over was a challenge. The fog was still thick when I pulled up. I loved the mystery and drama of the thick atmosphere. I walked out on the pier to get a good view of the lake and saw this boat. I set up quickly and went to work. I had layed out my paint and premixed my grays before I left the house that morning. I was able to paint the fog as quickly as it faded. It was a relaxing way to spend my morning. This is available for purchase. $125.00 Sheri@sheriart.net http://www.sheriart.net/ http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com/

White Pelicans II by Ann Hoffpauir

White Pelicans II   These white pelicans were painted from the photos I’d taken in Rockport , Tx .   It is the second painting of these pelicans.   As the sunlight changed and the pelicans swam in the water, I tried to capture those fleeting moments in my painting.   In this painting the colors are much warmer.   How quickly the moving sunlight can change things.   These white pelicans are painted on 300 lb. watercolor paper.   The price is $75.00                          ...

"I've Got the Blues" by Amy Hillenbrand

I've Got the Blues © 2011 Amy Hillenbrand 14 x 18 oil on canvas $650.00 + shipping  I am quite drawn to painting these rubber boots lately. Could it be because we having the worst drought in Texas since 1895. (I think that is when they started keeping records)  Maybe we could all get together, put on our rubber boots and do a rain dance. 56 T Bird by Sheri Jones

56 T-Bird by Sheri Jones 16x20 oil on canvas I found this jewel in Ft. Worth, just west of downtown. It was on one of the side streets in the musuem district and was calling my name. Walk With Me - Tulip Path of the Dallas Arboretum by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Walk With Me Tulip Path of the Dallas Arboretum by Nancy Medina 11X14 Oil on Linen Board Nancy Medina Web Site Walk With Me is a new painting in Flower Mound Studio of one of my favorite paths in the Dallas Arboretum . I've spent so many hours wandering around the grounds, but I always find some new treasure each time I visit. You will find this scene if you are coming from the rose gardens and walking back toward the main entrance. At the end of the day, the sun throws a golden light on top of the flowers, and I tried to capture a bit of that here.

White Rock Lake oil painting by Niki Gulley

9" x 12" oil painting by Niki Gulley at White Rock Lake I painted this small oil painting at White Rock Lake earlier this week, getting ready for my Plein Air Workshop this weekend. It was a perfect morning – blue skies and a gentle breeze, with an ideal temperature. I was attracted to the multi-colored sailboats and the interesting pattern they formed. With so many boats, I sketched out my composition and then I had to paint very quickly before the light changed – a fun challenge and an enjoyable, peaceful morning. White Pelicans

White Pelicans    Pelicans look like they can be an awkward and clumsy bird.   In flight pelicans are some of the most graceful of birds.    My husband and I were in Rockport, Tx. not too long ago.   Some fisherman was cleaning their catch of the day and the seagulls were diving into the water for their catch of the day.   Not far away from this entire seagull action was these white pelicans.   I took several photos of the activity going on.   In this painting I liked the way the pelicans are back lit.   Even though it was a very warm day, the shadows of the pelicans in the water appeared cool.  ...

Queen of the Night Black Tulips of the Dallas Arboretum by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Queen of the Night Black Tulips by Nancy Medina 11X14 Oil on Linen Board Nancy Medina Web Site Queen of the Night Black Tulips is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, and is based on my favorite tulips of the Dallas Arboretum. These tulips are most striking at the end of their bloom, when their edges curl and reflect colors that are a combination of deep cold purple and hot orange fire. How mother nature can take such different colors and make them work together so beautifully is a wonder.

Lake Worth Harbor - An original oil painting by George De Chiara

Lake Worth Harbor 6x6 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid. Opening bid just one penny!  I must have driven by Lake Worth a hundred times while my wife and I were dating. In order to get to her house from where I lived, I had to drive over the bridge that's just a stones throw from where I did this painting. Somehow, I forgot this lake existed after we got married and moved. Then, yesterday, I was in the mood to go out and paint, but where...? Whenever I get stuck with this question, I usually go to Google maps and do a virtual search for places to paint. That's when I noticed this lake again and the promising looking boat harbor, so I grabbed my painting gear and headed out. It turns out the harbor is private property, so I had to find a different location to paint from. I've gotten pretty use to running into situations like this, so I had already scouted out a few other possible locations to paint from on Google maps. Luckily, the...

White Rock Lake painting with Niki Gulley

"Bridge to Tomorrow" ©2011 Niki Gulley 12" x 24" textured oil painting On a peaceful autumn day last fall, I went out to White Rock Lake and captured this beautiful sunset behind the Dallas skyline. I liked the intricacy of the bridge and how it crossed through the composition, connecting the left and the right sides. The sunlight was peaking through the ironwork and various plants in the foreground were back lit, while the water's surface was shimmering from the low light, spreading vivid colors in all directions. A perfect ending to the day! *** Please join me at the  Dallas Arboretum and White Rock Lake this weekend for a 2-day painting workshop .  I only have two spots left, so e-mail at   Niki@NikiGulley.com  for more information and to register or visit  nikigulley.com/?page_id=13 . *** To see more of my contemporary landscape paintings and local Dallas scenes, visit my website at NikiGulley.com .

Hillcountry Autumn

Oil on Canvas 18 x 24 Artist: Anna Payne The earth colors of the Texas Hillcountry are unique. I was interested in painting these subdued colors with more intensity but wanted to capture the sweeping horizon as it recedes in subtle shades. The actual sky in the painting is a much livelier hue of violet. I liked the way the trees lean into the hill. Intersting lines. Annapayne.com SkyDanceStudio@yahoo.com Annapayneart.blogspot.com

Lucy's House /Fatima, Portugal by Martie Rains

Lucy's House 11x14 oil on canvas www.martierains.com martierains@sbcglobal.net       This painting was inspired by a pilgrimage to Fatima, Portugal. You can read about the story of Our Lady of Fatima on my blog published last May titled "The Miracle at Fatima." St. Lucia, one of the three children to whom the Virgin Mary appeared, lived in this house as a child. The peaceful simplicity of this room compelled me to paint it.  You may purchase this painting by clicking here .

© Ann Hoffpauir Great Egret   The Great Egret is a showy bird.   The white feathers of an egret make excellent subjects to paint.   They seem to pick up color from their surroundings and at other times they just have very subtle color change.   In this painting I chose a lone egret in the evening light, maybe it’s his last feeding before the end of the day.   This is a watercolor on 300 lb. paper.   It is size 7x5.   You may purchase it for $75.00. Along County Road 256 - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Along County Road 256 6x8 inches Oil on canvas panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid. (Starting 10/25 @ 8PM) Opening bid just one penny!  Over the weekend, my wife went to a baby shower for one of her friends that was way out in the country. Never one to pass up the opportunity to explore a new area and get in a little painting, I volunteered to drive her and our daughters to the shower. Once I dropped them off, I quickly went to work searching for a good location to paint. There where so many places I wanted to paint that my decision on what to paint came down to finding a good spot to park the car and paint from. For this spot, I found a nice little area on the shoulder of County Road 256, right under a nice live oak tree for some shade. There were many things that made me want to paint this view. First, was the great clouds we had in the sky. The added benefit of this was the wonderful cast shadows going across the foreground from them. And, finally, the occasiona...

Low Water Crossing by Sheri Jones

Low Water Crossing by Sheri Jones 7x14 oil on canvas I created this plein air this past Saturday. We were outside of Glen Rose traveling the back roads looking for good painting spots. We drove past this and decided to look around. One of the challenges is finding somewhere to pull over. This location had a couple options, so we set up shop. We quickly got our paint boxes out and went to work. I liked the nice distance and bright fall color of the trees. This is available for purchase. $150.00 Sheri@sheriart.net http://www.sheriart.net/ http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com/

"Tell Me Your Dreams" oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Tell Me Your Dreams" ©2011 Niki Gulley SOLD • 11" x 14" oil painting Just sold! I absolutely love poppies and seeing them growing in mass! In this painting I wanted to show them in a different way than we're used to seeing poppies so I chose a low angle to show off the beauty of their simplified forms and the strength of such a delicate flower, while capturing the azure blue sky behind them. If you'd like to learn how to paint nature, join us at the Dallas Arboretum and White Rock Lake this weekend for a 2-day painting and or photography workshop .   Space if filling up quickly, so e-mail  Niki@NikiGulley.com  for more information and to register or visit  nikigulley.com/?page_id=13 . *** To see more of my contemporary landscape paintings, visit my website at NikiGulley.com .
© Ann Hoffpauir Purple Iris   Hello folks.   I have been off the blogging and face book posting for a while due to unforeseen circumstances.   Now that I’m back, I would like for you to view a small painting I’ve done recently. This painting is a watercolor, size 7x5.   The purple bearded iris is one of many type flowers I grow in my yard.   One beautiful characteristic of the bearded iris are the thin velvety petals.   When the iris is back lit, the petals are almost transparent.   These irises have a licorice aroma.   Not only eye candy for an artist, but smells like candy too.   You may purchase this small 7x5 watercolor for $75.00.   It is painted on 300 lb. paper. Thank you for viewing.     http://www.ArtworkbyAnn

"Quiet Evening at Lake Mineral Wells, TX" Mark Nesmith Oil on Canvas 8" x 10" 2011 Click here  to bid on this painting. I started this painting thinking about the calm evenings my family and I shared this past summer at Lake Mineral Wells, when the heat of the day would dissipate and a cool breeze would roll across the water. I wanted to capture the contented feeling I had after a long day of hiking with the kids when we'd sit by the shore and watch the water and the sky. This is an 8" x 10" oil painting on stretched canvas and was recently featured on Empty Easel . Fall Flame Sunflower by Texas Artist Nancy Medina and a Trip to Central Market

Fall Flame Sunflower by Nancy Medina 12X12 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Fall Flame Sunflower is drying on the easel in the studio on a Sunday evening. Today we took a rare trip to Central Market and picked up delicacies that were totally unnecessary and thoroughly awesome such as three kinds of cheeses from the South of France, a fresh cherry cobbler with crunchy brown sugar topping, "real crab" California rolls, freshly made lobster ravioli, and of course an obligatory bunch of gorgeous sunflowers. It's a good thing we don't live closer to Central Market, we would not be able to pay the electric bill. Today was an especially timely event, since it was Meet The Cheese Week! The ladies at the free cheese sample tables raised their eyebrows when I went back for thirds, claiming the extras were for my husband.

JULIE by Linda Popple

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord Click here to purchase. Click here to view my blog. This is NOT a mug shot!!  I repeat, NOT a mug shot!!! She is innocent .... on most things. Julie is my younger (as she is ALWAYS pointing out to me) sister.  We are only two and a half years apart, but listening to her you would think it is decades.  She has been on my mind recently as each year we take a road trip together.  This year it is about two weeks away and we are still trying to make a decision as to where we will go.  It really doesn't matter.  The trip is full of laughter no matter where we end up.  This year I am driving with hopes that we won't get lost quite so often!  She is terrible at following directions and listening to me .... the navigator.  We'll see what happens!
