Indian Paintbrush Homestead by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Indian Paintbrush Homestead by Nancy Medina   14X14 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Indian Paintbrush Homestead is the newest work in Flower Mound Studio, and it's a scene directly from my childhood, and the fields of Indian Paintbrushes on our family farm. We never had bluebonnets, but we had acres of Indian Paintbrush, my favorite wildflower. I don't have acreage or a garden here in this urban jungle of Flower Mound, but I'm thankful that I have my canvas to create with paint what my parents loved and nurtured all the years of my childhood.

Four Square by Kay Wyne

Four Square 36" x 36" Mixed Media on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Rooster Painting I am closing out 2012 with a new rooster painting.  Four Square is a large square canvas, with four rooster images painted with wide brush strokes.  Each rooster is painted differently, as if they have their own personality and individuality.  The close-up image below shows that there is an abstract quality to the images of these fun roosters.  I amped up the color, and exaggerated the features on the fine feathered creatures. Here is a closer look at the rooster in the top right corner of the painting.  As you can see, there are layers of paint, ink and oil sticks on the canvas.  Since this is on a gallery wrap canvas, a frame is optional.  This contemporary rooster painting is looking for a new home...contact Kay if you are interested in this painting.  I hope that everyone has a fun and safe New Years Eve.  I will check in tomorrow with a ne...

I returned from our holiday travel early this morning.  It feels good to be home again!  Our Christmas was wonderful and I hope yours was, too. I painted this mug shot before Christmas and just now getting it posted.  His nose grabbed my attention and I was in the mood to paint a profile.  When I began this series I had no idea how many I would paint.  I still don't know when I will stop.  I find faces to be so interesting and there is such a variety in these mug shots.  I learn something new with each one.

Sketchbook Collages

This is not all of the sketches, but just wanted to show a small selection of them! Would be nearly impossible to put all of them on here.  Even to put 75 in regular size would be too much! The first one has the last one in the middle, and the 2nd one is just some more. If you are an artist and don't keep a sketchbook I recommend that you start! I have done them for a very long time, but never with just pen and ink. I have always relied on my pencils and erasers.I would draw with pencil, and then go over it with ink.  I took a sketchbook workshop from Don Getz years ago, and he told me to throw my pencil away, but I just couldn't. I just didn't have the confidence to do that!  After seeing what Brenda Swenson and Cathy Johnson and many other artists were doing on face book, I decided I would try it. The first few were very hard for me...to start the ink, knowing it was THERE! But if the line was wrong, I just kept on anyway, and they didn't turn...

75 days!

On October 14, 2012 I decided to try the sketch book challenge by Brenda Swenson .  You sketch with pen and ink only. no pencil or eraser, for 75 days!I wondered if I could co it, but decided to try. I love sketchbooks, and have a bunch that I have done over the years, but always in pencil. The last day was today! I made it. I did miss 6 days but filled up 3 large sketchbooks.  I am proud of the sketches! I had to think through them before I could make my mark. I am posting the very first one, and the last one, and then I am going to photo them all, and posts some of them. Thanks to all of you who encouraged me with your remarks as I posted them!!  The First Day  Ruidoso Church was done before I got my good ink..(Noodler's ink) and it ran as I painted it. I don't really mind it, but didn't want all of them runny! The Sketchbooks are the 3 that I filled, and drew in the 4th one. I had to start a new one on Dec. ...

Yarn by Kay Wyne

Yarn Contemporary Oil Painting This is a 18" x 18" oil painting on a gallery wrap canvas. Very colorful. Inspired by yarn. Lots of stacked up yarn in a bin. It is a kaleidoscope of variegated colors. I thought I would rename this painting, but Yarn it is. I was thinking that a series of yarn paintings might be interesting...take  a trip through a yarn shop and see all of the beautiful colors, textures and thicknesses of the yarns.  Maybe I will put that on my to-do list.  I am getting ready to start a new series for 2013, but I have not decided exactly what my guidelines for that series will be.  Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing. No frame needed...it is ready to hang!  Kay at kay@kwyne.com

Palette Knife Sunflower Paintings by Niki Gulley

"Sunny Moments VI" ©2012 Niki Gulley 12" x 12" textured oil on canvas I painted these sunflowers with extremely thick paint and palette knife. The resulting canvas is loaded with texture, color and energy! I've painted it on 1 and 1/2 inch deep stretcher bars, with the image continuing around the edges so that it can be hung as is frameless for a contemporary look.  This sunflower scene looks great hung alone to brighten up a little spot, or in a grouping with some of my sunflower or floral scenes. Hang them horizontally (like pictured above), vertically, on a diagonal or stacked  (as seen below).  Take a look at  nikigulley.com/the-art/textured-oils/  to find complimentary companion pieces. If interested in more information on pricing and purchasing, please e-mail  Niki Gulley . To see more of my textured flower paintings, please visit  NikiGulley.com .

Peaceful Path by Kay Wyne

Peaceful Path 48" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Palette Knife Painting When I painted this contemporary landscape canvas, I wanted to let the eye wander over the canvas as if you were exploring and walking through the trees, towards the mountains.  There is a path leading to the base of the mountains, which is the focal point.  The color palette for this painting is different than the norm for me...I wanted to use more neutral and earthy colors rather than bright, bold and vibrant colors. When looking at this painting up close you want to touch it...the palette knife allowed me to put some texture on the canvas.  Peaceful Path would make a wonderful addition to a home or office ...please contact me if you are interested in this painting or any of the art posted here on this blog.  Thanks, Kay at kay@kwyne.com.

"East Lucy Vincent Beach - Thaw Malin iii

"East Lucy Vincent Beach", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel. On a cool, but windless evening I walked down the beach and around the backside of the cliff. I last painted here in the spring. It was surprising to see how much cliff had eroded in the last few storms since then. The dark hole in the top of the middle cliff is totally hollowed out down to the beach beside the brighter orange cliff. Another storm or two and that forward piece will fall into the sea… The value of this work of art is $550 USD, but, as my gift to you, for the 7 days of the auction each piece is in from the day it is created, you may start bidding at $100 (before the price becomes $550)… This is my way of saying thank you for enjoying my work and keeping me creating new ones almost everyday. Your interest stimulates and inspires me and has made me a better painter for it. If think you'd like to purchase this piece, please click Go to my Auction, ...

A Little Studio Time by Pamela Blaies

Oranges and a Blue Vase study 12" x 9" oil Today I enjoyed some time in the studio after all of the fun family Christmas festivities of the past week. After putting a dark tone on the canvas, I took a cloth and wiped out the areas that I was going to add light. Then I blocked in the shadows, letting the toned canvas show through some of the brushstrokes. Last of all I added the light mostly with palette knife. This is a study for a larger painting I'm planning for tomorrow and I'm really happy with the loose feel of it. I love to share my art and inspiration. Tranquility Cottage Garden by Nancy Medina 18X24X1.5 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Tranquility Cottage Garden is a new painting in Flower Mound Studio, I'd like to stand in this yard barefoot and listen to the insects and smell flowers on the breeze, wouldn't you? And maybe there is a cherry pie warming on the windowsill, and a white wicker rocker on the little lean to porch, and a fat yellow kitty cat nearby waiting to climb into your lap. Even with Christmas right around the corner, we can dream of flowers! Detail from Tranquil Cottage

A New England Cottage Garden Painting and the Story of Flower Mound by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

New England Wilds by Nancy Medina 24X20 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site New England Wilds is the newest painting here on the easel in Flower Mound Studio. I drove by The Flower Mound tonight on my way home from the grocery store. The Mound's flowers were dried and brown from our recent freeze, but still looked beautiful and rose up much higher than I could see. Flower Mound was founded in 1844 by settlers who survived the Great Depression and other hardships, even though the railroads and other major developments passed them by. The Mound is believed by some to be an Indian burial mound, but historians say there is no proof that is true. The settlers told the story that every time someone would build on it, a storm would blow away the building materials. The Mound stands untouched to this day, even though Flower Mound has grown up around it to a town of over 50,000. The Mound is now gated with a historical marker, a...
