Whoopee Tea 13030, Tazo Earl Grey Oil Painting, Day 30 of the Leslie Saeta 30 in 30 Painting Challenge by Texas Contemporary Artist Nancy Standlee

Whoopee Tea  13030 8x8 on Ampersand Gessoboard panel, original oil, Palette knife painting Tazo Tea, Green Polka Dot Cup and a Lemon $95  Purchase through my online gallery at   HERE . (Painted for day 30 of 30 of the Leslie Saeta paint 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.) I wonder how many of the last day paintings will have celebration in the title or have had some caffeine involved somehow.  I know I've had my share of coffee and tea, early and late. While in a coffee house in Fredericksburg, I saw a T-shirt slogan that said it all "Instant human - just add coffee." Some of my friends think that way about tea and I do love my Earl Grey Tazo or is it because the purple on the box and tea bags are lavender? And lavender and a light green polka dot cup with a yellow lemon make a great color combination and throw in a spoon on a striped cloth and you have a winning composition. Coffee cups have played a big role in my painting life and mo...

Shimmering colors of autumn: Aspen trees quiver, their light graceful leaves tremble and quake, silver and gold, silver and gold with each light breeze. Whatever Floats Your Boat by Kay Wyne

Whatever Floats Your Boat 8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Panel #30 Painting in 30-30 Challenge:   Slices of Life by Leslie Saeta $200 This little painting came about as I was looking through photos of our trip to Maine last September.  John and I were driving along the coast and came across a small fishing village, and we were standing on a pier looking back at the shore.  I cropped my photograph way down to focus in our these three boats:  a dinghy, rowboat and a canoe.  They were clustered up close to the Irish Lady (painted that one yesterday) and I liked the way they were sitting in the water.  I haven't painted very many boats---I may want to do some more.  Now that our 30 day challenge is over with, I won't stop painting everyday.  I will probably go back to larger canvases, wide brushes and palette knives.  Thanks for looking at this blog and the art here.  I have met some neat artists along this 30 day challenge, and that...

DONE and THREE YEAR BLOG ANNIVERSARY

6x6 Oil on Gessobord For purchase information click  HERE . To view my blog click  HERE . Day 30 and done!  Wow!  Thirty paintings in 30 days completed.  It's been a good journey and I've gained knowledge about myself and using a very limited palette.   Thank you, Leslie Saeta, for a fun challenge!  I think Crystal Cook expressed my thoughts perfectly about this challenge and I have put her link at the end of my post.  Please take a minute and read it.  And to see the work that over 200 artists did in the challenge, click the link to Leslie's blog. Today is my three year "blogaversary!"  Holy cow!!  I've met some fantastic artists through the blogosphere.  I've experienced inspiration and encouragement beyond what I could ever expect and I have to say THANK YOU!!  Every comment and email has meant so very much to me.  And meeting some of you in person .... wow!  It has just been an experience that has a...

POMEGRANATE ON BLUE FABRIC by Linda Popple

6x6 Oil on Gessobord For purchase information click  HERE . To view my blog click HERE . Day 29 of the 30/30 challenge.  I can't believe there is only one more day of the challenge.  I have learned quite a bit about the commitment to posting once a day and I have to admit that at this point it is something that I will not continue.  I have learned, also, that a very limited palette is not my cup of tea.  However, I can see how it would be a real plus when painting plein air.  Through this challenge I have met some wonderful artists of which I was unaware .... icing on the cake!

French Tulips by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

French Tulips by Nancy Medina 18X18 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site It's been a super busy few days. I'm not quite sure what's in the wind, but the unseasonably warm weather has brought good tidings for Flower Mound studio. Two of my workshops are now full, and new paintings are heading to homes and doctor's offices in South Carolina, Australia, Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina and Maryland. The hubby and I paid a visit to Central Market today *insert sound of harps* to pick up a few things Mom said she's been craving. Pate, fresh bread, a scrumptious bleu cheese log, and the makings for lasagna from scratch filled our cart. But I could not depart the premises without these divine French tulips! I carried them lovingly to the register, worrying that the clerk would set them down on the counter, bruising their lovely petals. Fortunately, I found a sensitive soul ringing up my canned goods. She handled the...

Reception Flowers 13029, 6x6, Floral Oil Painting, Day 29 of the 30 in 30 Challenge by Texas Artist Nancy Standlee

Reception Flowers 13029 6x6 on Ampersand Gessobord, original oil, painted with palette knife $75  Purchase through my online gallery at HERE . (Painted for day 29 of 30 of the Leslie Saeta paint 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.)  I do hope that if you started out on this challenge you have made it this far. I do enjoy making goals and sticking with them to completion; however many of mine never made it. I'm thinking of sewing a brown tweed wool tailored coat that I came to hate and it ended up in the trash before it was finished. That fabric looked much better in the store and me in brown? No. We need to remember if first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you. But I've put some kind of paint down each day for 29 days and some little paintings I like better than others but sky diving is not in my future. What is in my future as a Canvas by Canvas member is making plans for a show with reception flowers at the Breckenridge Fine Art Cente...

The Irish Lady by Kay Wyne

The Irish Lady 8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel Palette Knife Painting Here is #29 entry for the 30 Day Paint Challenge.... only one more to go!!! You can visit  Slices of Life by Leslie Saeta  blog to see all the entries. The Irish Lady was washed up on the shore off the coast of Maine- it was a perfect chance for me to take some photos. I eliminated the men working on the boat, simplifying my painting. Because the paint is so thick and juicy, I did not put any lettering on the sideof The Irish Lady.  I did not want to get fussy with it. I also took out another boat that was beached up with it. My biggest challenge on this painting was green, as I did not want to get it all over the panel, and into the white. I think I got burnt-out on roosters, as I am working on another boat/seascape painting for tomorrow. Thanks for viewing...kay@kwyne.com KMW

Chocolate Heart - A New Original ACEO Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Chocolate Heart © 2.5 x 3.5 inches  Oil  George De Chiara Is it too soon for Valentine hearts? I hope not, because as soon as my 3 year daughter found out I had chocolate in the studio, she quickly made it a point to come visit me as much as possible. On each visit, she would "sneak" another chocolate heart out of the studio and run off to eat it. Over the course of the last few days, she's gone through my whole supply of them! Well...that's not exactly they truth. She did have some help with them, but I'm not naming any names on who helped her.  This painting is available through the  Dutch Art Gallery  in Dallas, if you're interested in getting it for yourself or as a wonderful one-of- a-kind Valentine gift for that someone special. They do an amazing job framing these into a 5x7 inch frame and they look great. Contact Pam at (214) 348-7350 for further details. www.georgedechiara.com

I sold Flower Flurries yesterday to an art collector in CA. And Run to Me Little Chicks a collage to an art collector in Brooklyn, NY . Thanks to the subscribers who have let me clog your inboxes each day. I have lost a few in the process but I've also gained a few fans. Take Flight Purple Pansies by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Take Flight Purple Pansies by Nancy Medina 12X12 Palette Knife/Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site My winter garden is a bit meager, but a few pansies are determined to make their appearance and have survived two small snowfalls. I love their whimsical, ruffley edges. I began this painting with a completely transparent underpainting in yellows and greens, and then built my clay pot with Transparent Oxide Red. I used my dry paper towel to lift out highlight areas, and then shaped the pansies with brush and palette knife. The last step was laying in the bright opaque greens and the blue sky peeping through to give the flowers light and air. After a day with overcast gray skies, it felt like time for some bright color! "Symphony of Colors" New Textured Aspen Tree oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Symphony of Colors" ©2013 Niki Gulley 36" x 60" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas Shimmering colors of autumn: Aspen and Oak trees quiver, their light graceful leaves tremble and quake, silver and gold, scarlet and tangerine, with each light breeze. There is the quiet energy of change coming and vibrant color charges the woods. Crisp fall mountain air, a band of slender straight trunks cut bright strokes of white against a dazzling tumble of amber and crimson. Staccato strokes and shimmering hues add to the feeling of change in the air and suggest the wind whistling through the foliage. Missed The Boat by Kay Wyne

Missed The Boat 12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel Palette Knife Painting Seascape Painting #28 for the 30-30 Challenge I got into the studio yesterday and pulled out a 12" x 12" panel and a couple of palette knives to paint this dingy.  I found this dinghy washed up on the shore in Maine last fall, and thought it had so much character...it was aged with rust and I loved the rocks in the water.  Only two more days of painting for the Painting Challenge....you might want to visit  Slices of Life by Leslie Saeta  blog to see all of the paintings.  Thanks for looking at this blog....I will be in the studio working on #29 today! kay@kwyne.com KMW

Along the Banks by Texas Artist Sheri Jones

Along the Banks  10x8 oil on canvas I painted this is the studio after painting plein air one fall morning.  My artist friend, Jill Randall and I took a drive in search of good painting locations and found this one. The only problem was a couple local guard dogs. They ran us down the road, but not before we snapped a few pictures.  I painted this with a palette knife and lots of colorful paint. This is available for purchase. $200.00 Sheri@sheriart.net www.sheriartnet www.sheriart.blogspot.com www.cfai.co/sherijones/

A Girl Needs a Red Dress 13027, Figurative Oil Painting, 9x7, Day 27 of the 30/30 Challenge by Texas Artist Nancy Standlee

A Girl Needs a Red Dress 13027 9x7 on canvas panel, original oil $90.00  Purchase through my online gallery at HERE . (Painted for day 27 of 30 of the Leslie Saeta paint 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.) I took my first oil workshop last January with Peggi Kroll Roberts in Lodi, CA .  She started us off with a still life then on to figures. During the month of February I posted some figure work from her DVD's .  Later in March I went to Tucson for a figure plein air . The Red Dress Girl above is from a photo I took of one of the models from that workshop out in the beautiful backyard overlooking Tucson. In the photo there was a bright blue swimming pool behind the model and I decided just to add a blue band. I love painting figures and I really love how Peggi Kroll Roberts paints figures. This is one of my faves at the Knowlton Gallery who hosted the January workshop.   Garden Figure.  (You will have to search by Peggi's name to...

Sun Seeker Blue Hydrangea by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Sun Seeker Blue Hydrangea by Nancy Medina 8X10 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Sun Seeker Blue Hydrangea is a new work on the easel, as I pack up paintings to ship to Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland and Dallas, Texas this week. After all that packing I just couldn't bear to leave the studio without dipping into the paints, so I pulled up a few of my favorite Dallas Arboretum photos from last spring and found a fav blue flower in the bunch. Today the hubby and I spent the day with Mom. We toasted bagels, talked about our favorite recipes, and visited with my uncle and aunt who flew in from Wheaton, Illinois. Mom really enjoyed the company, and it was wonderful to see her smile. I hope you had a nice weekend, and spent it with someone who makes you happy, even if that someone is just a little fuzzy cuteypie like my AnnieBee (who got a bath today therefore she smells like roses!!)

"Shades of Americana" (Oil Study) by Kyle Wood

"Shades of Americana" 6" x 8" Oil Study by Kyle Wood Here is a small painting that I completed a few days of ago of a scene around Waxahachie, Texas.  Working from photographs, I did a small study of one of the historical homes in Waxahachie, Texas.  The main purpose of the studies is to work out a composition and idea for a larger, more refined painting.  Here I am not too concerned about details, but rather with overall form, structure, massing, and color objects.   For 2013 and perhaps beyond, we are moving in a different direction with my art.  After evaluating some of my past works, I have decided to place more emphasis on painting architectural vignettes.  The architectural paintings that I have done in the past, seem to be stronger in composition and design overall, so this is main reason why I am moving in this direction.  One of the goals is to eventually to turn some of these architectural vignettes into a narrative they tel...

(Painted for day 26 of 30 of the Leslie Saeta paint 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.) I painted Sheep's in the Meadow and posted on Nancy Standlee Art Blog HERE and thought I needed a companion piece, Cow's in the Corn.  I am partial to children's stories and books because I retired as an elementary librarian and we spent a lot of time acting out stories. I'll never forget the little boy who let me pin on his jeans a piece of Christmas tinsel for a fox tail. We had a grand time.  I've added a new phone app that I think will help me in my painting in composition and drawing. You might like it also..AccuView Here is their website to read more about it.
