SPRING FLING BY ARTIST PAT MEYER

Barbara Jones Fine Art

"The Good Feelings of Pottery"   Oil    12x16 Sold   Greetings from my Studio.   This was my first attempt at painting a black Indian pot and I cheated a little bit.  I chose to paint the carved design only on the upper section of the pot.  This allowed me to have a nice black shiny surface on which to put my reflected lights and highlights.  Keeping the pot less busy seemed like a good idea and I believe it worked.  I used the same blue green in the blanket and the color of the garlic for the highlights and reflected lights on the pot.        Close up of my highlight.   Close up of the Indian blanket.       Close up of garlic and reflected light.   Please visit my website at   www.BarbaraJonesFineArt.com to view my work,  check out my  workshop schedule or sign up for my newslette...

This is another vintage mugshot.  I really struggled with this one.  Painting from a black and white photograph taken decades and decades ago is not an easy task.  However, when I saw her glasses I had to paint her.  She had a scarf wrapped around her neck that I painted and then wiped it out.  I'm afraid it did me in.  I'm pleased with how she turned out with those iconic glasses.

West Falls - An Original 8x10 Lanscape Oil Painting by George De Chiara

West Falls   ©   8x10 inches  Oil George De Chiara Click here to bid.   One of my favorite subjects to paint is water, particularly white water rapids and falls. It's something I find myself returning to time and again. The thing is, it's hard to find white water rivers in North Texas. I'm constantly on the search when I'm out and about. Making mental notes of places to explore in more depth and still, the list of places to try is very, very small. Luckily a little over a year ago, I discovered one of the best kept secrets in the DFW area... Read more on my blog here . www.georgedechiara.com

Turn Your Radio On by Suzy 'Pal' Powell

When we went to Canton, I took all kinds of pictures of stuff just piled up.  This really caught my eye. The red behind all the old antique microphones! I did a sketch and loved it, so thought I had to do the painting. For some reason, I liked the way the edges were in the sketch so I tried to do it similar.  I added a couple more mics than what is in the sketch. I was afraid to use the trademark name behind the microphones, so i just made up some swirls. This is done on 300 lb hot press Arches paper. I am thinking I like it! The 300 lb.paper is what is required for the workshop I am going to next week, so I had to practice!   Ink Sketch in sketchbook

Plein Air Painting in Venice with Niki Gulley

"Romantic Passage," Venice ©2013 Niki Gulley 12" x 9" • textured oil painting We just got back from teaching our latest Painting and Photography Art Trek in Venice during Carnivalé and had the most amazing time! The weather was ideal our first day there, and we found our way to this quiet landing to paint a typical Venetian canal. I liked the way the sunlight reflected across the water's surface, and I really wanted to capture a gondola in that lit space, but since they move so quickly that was no easy task! Luckily around 11am, there was a steady stream of gondolas passing by our location. I found myself painting as quickly as I could while one came into my composition, and if I didn't capture it in time, fortunately another vessel would come into view shortly afterwards, and I was really pleased with the results. If you'd like to join us on one of our upcoming Art Treks, please let me know. The final registration deadline of ...

Indiana Pink Tulips 13036, Dreama Workshop, Carmel, Indiana by Texas Artist Nancy Standlee

Indiana Pink Tulips 13036 12x12" in Ampersand Gessobord Oil For Sale on the online gallery HERE I've flown back into DFW today from  a Dreama Tolle Perry oil workshop at the Renaissance Gallery in Carmel Indiana and the pink tulips were painted on Friday, February 22, the first day of the workshop. A question one of my friends asked before I left, "Why Carmel? It's cold there?" Well, I guess it was an oversight on my part because I signed up during a hot Texas August and IF you've ever tried to get into one of Dreama's workshops you know it's just not that easy as they fill up quickly. There was an opening posted so I took it. It was a great workshop but the Midwest storm followed me there making for a little flight turbulence along the way and I got up Friday morning with about of 1/2" thick ice on my rental car windshield. Fortunately a scraper was included but cold, oh, my. I gingerly drove to the Indiana Art and Desi...

YELLOW CANNA by Carol Peterson

"Yellow Canna" by Carol Peterson 15" x 11" watercolor $300 This was painted from a photo I took of a yellow canna last fall.  The flower and leaves are transparent watercolor but the background is magenta and black gaouche.  I love the contrast of the transparent colors with the flat gaouche collor.

This young woman was arrested in March of 1928.  I found it interesting that most of the mugshots of this era included three photos, a profile, a straight on, and a full body portrait.  Some of the people in these mugshots had some interesting clothing and poses.  Some of the clothing were very dapper, especially with the men.  To view other painted vintage mugshots take a look at  Kathleen Coy's blog .

Blue Jean Bluebonnets by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Blue Jean Bluebonnets by Nancy Medina 12X12 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Follow Me on Facebook  I've been exercising my landscape brushes lately, and the new collection of paintings would not be complete without at least one new bluebonnet, don't you agree? Blue Jean Bluebonnets reminded me so much of one of my favorite pairs of extra soft, extra worn jeans from my teen years, back when pale blue denim was in style and super wide bell bottoms. I've had lots of trips down memory lane lately, staying with mom and helping go through paperwork, favorite books and records, as well as a few terrifying photos of myself with big hair and glitter blue eyeshadow from the 1980s which you'll notice I'm not including here.  Also in the mix was a great deal of birdwatching, and the little feeder attached to mom's kitchen window attracted more than just birds. AnnieBee got up close and ...

Romantic Reflections by Pamela Blaies

Be Mine 9" x 12" oil on linen I'm a little late sharing this one, but my sweetie gave me a dozen beautiful red roses for Valentine's Day. He knows how much I love flowers. I painted three of them scattered on a silver platter, which was a wedding present over 15 years ago. I see lots of symbolism in this painting. Even the reflections of the freshly cut, romantic roses in the slightly tarnished silver platter seem to say things to me. I love to share my art and inspiration. New Sunflower series by Niki Gulley

"Sun Salutations II" ©2013 Niki Gulley 12" x 12" textured oil on canvas I painted these sunflowers with extremely thick paint and palette knife. The resulting canvas is loaded with texture, color and energy! I've painted it on 1 and 1/2 inch deep stretcher bars, with the image continuing around the edges so that it can be hung as is frameless for a contemporary look.  This sunflower scene looks great hung alone to brighten up a little spot, or in a grouping with some of my sunflower or floral scenes. Hang them horizontally (pictured above), vertically, on a diagonal or stacked. Take a look at  nikigulley.com/the-art/textured-oils/  to find complimentary companion pieces. Summerfield Indian Paintbrush and a Texas Landscape Workshop by Nancy Medina

Summerfield Indian Paintbrush by Nancy Medina SOLD 16X20 Oil on Archival Panel Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Summerfield Indian Paintbrush was my class demonstration this morning for my workshop in North Texas. A group of very talented ladies made spring blossoms happen in hopes that winter has left us, while we enjoyed a plethora of desserts and snacks, donuts, a strawberry concoction that was so delicious I hope I never get the recipe lest I gain 100 pounds, and some well meaning soul even brought healthy fruit wedges! My shattering donut devotion was undeterred, however, and I'm proud to say I had three. And another after class I had secretly sequestered into my carry bag. At this rate, it should be interesting to see how long before I go up another pant size... We are definitely ready for spring in the Texas Hill Country!
