This view in Zion Natl. Park can be seen from the spacious, covered porch of the Historical Center.   It's part of a sweeping amphitheater, with a vast wealth of painting subjects, any time of day.  The Shadow patterns slowly shift and transform the view as the sun moves across the sky.  There's way more information than you can possibly handle, so it's  a great exercise in selection, editing and arrangement. April Bluebonnets by Jill Randall 8”x10”   oil on Raymar panel Saturday the 14 th , I joined four other artist to do a painting demo at the Dutch Art Gallery where the Artist of Texas have their No Where But Texas show until January 11.   If you have a chance, this is a beautiful exhibit of talented artist in Texas. I chose to paint from memory and a reference photo taken at Rough Creek resort out of Glen Rose.   It was a fun day of painting and visiting with other artist and patrons.

Scarlet Admirer is the newest daily painting in Flower Mound Studio, and the fresh peonies have decided to stay with me a few more days. I wanted to create something a bit whimsical and festive for the holidays, and the cardinals in our yard this morning inspired this new work. These are those last few days with the Christmas tree still up, the decorations still on the shelves, and the white poinsettias still in the kitchen nook. I am always just a little sad when it's time to put away these holiday mementos. Christmas always ends too soon.

September Reflections 20" x 16" oil on linen Taking a break from the studio to spend time with my family over the Christmas holidays has been rejuvenating. It may seem a little early to begin thinking about spring, but I'm already getting excited about planning my schedule. I received invitations to exhibit in the Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park in Houston, Texas and Southlake Art in the Square and I'm thrilled. They both rank at the top of the list of the best fine art festivals in the United States. I'll be participating in a few group exhibits this spring as well. Looking forward to the new year! This is another small therapy painting.. I had more very sad news on Xmas Day. My dear old aunt,(the other artist in my family and my mentor) Hazel Johnson passed away at the ripe old age of 92. I needed to just let the color flow, it's so theraputic for me..so get out your sunglasses everyone. LOL. This recent news means yet another trip back to Australia, in the next week or so.. I hope this trip is not a long one this time, and that I can still resume my posts in the very near future, in the meantime, I am letting loose in my studio while I can. This is a 9 x 12" watercolor. I took a little break from peonies this evening to paint one of my favorite visitors to Mom's feeder, the red Cardinal. Each time I arrive at the farm in East Texas, the first thing I do is refill the feeders and replenish the woodpeckers with homemade suet. The horses always stand at the fence and snuffle and whinny until I give them each a big bite of the peanut butter infused suet. I think this is their absolute favorite treat.
