"Heightened Awareness" Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

Heightened Awareness III ©2014 Niki Gulley 48" x 36" • Textured mixed media on canvas In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. I chose vibrant, cheerful yellows contrasted against a violet blue sky filled with big, puffy clouds. And, by arranging the aspens in a circular pattern heightened by thick, curving paint strokes, that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery are enhanced. Color Jungle Cottage ~ Flower Paintings and Cottage Garden Tours by Nancy Medina

Color Jungle Cottage Garden - Detail 20X20 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter! Color Jungle Cottage Garden is under construction in Flower Mound Studio tonight, based on the beautiful cottages of Coronado Island in Southern California. I'm super excited to be taking my students on a tour of these gardens during my flower painting workshop in San Diego, August 1-3. The flowers will be in bloom and we'll have plenty of opportunities to fill up the memory cards on our digital cameras and astound our husbands by how quickly we can subsume every millibite-thingy-ma-bob of space on our cell phone cameras, while we're at it! I've reached that awkward point where I have to make everyone posing for a photo "hang on a sec" while I delete 10 items in order to have space to take one more photo. Am I the only one in this predicament? Are there suppor...

Wandering Through by Kay Wyne

Wandering Through 48" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Palette Knife Painting This painting is drying at the studio...a contemporary floral landscape bursting with color and texture.  I have been working on this canvas for days...with layers and layers of paint.  The scene is a wide view of wildflowers wandering through the landscape.  The sky is heavy with paint and texture.  Because this painting is on thick stretcher bars/gallery wrap canvas, framing is optional.  This is a great size canvas to hang above a sofa or fireplace.  Contact  Kay  for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Kay

Demonstration Ad Nauseum? by Pamela Blaies

Still Life Study in Light 12" x 9" oil on linen I promise this will be the final blog about my first venture into demonstrating in front of a live audience. Since my last two blog posts discussed the upcoming event, you might have guessed I was a little apprehensive about it. But once I started painting, the nervousness just melted away. I only had about an hour to work, but the Weatherford Art Association was a great crowd and it was fun discussing my process as the painting unfolded. Here is the painting from that night. I love to share my art and inspiration. Click  HERE  to sign up for my email newsletter and receive a free gift of postcards. Follow me on Facebook.

Goldie... Rae Andrews

This was the first pastel I did in this very loose style, and it has set me off on a journey of discovery. What fun.. I tend to get very detailed when I do a portrait, this was pure discipline for me. Enjoy. This is a 9 x 12" pastel on velour (unframed). $250 plus S/H

Smudge (the cat) Rae Andrews

Okay, get ready for a barrage of pet portraits! Not really, but I loved doing GOLDIE so much, thought I would do at least a couple more. Smudge (the cat) is along the same vein as GOLDIE, loose and marginally out of focus, to stop me doing too much detail. I really like the play of light in these portraits.. I have a few photos I can tweak in Sketch Club on the IPad, to get the contrast more accented before I transfer my drawing to the paper., it helps. I had fun with this technique (done in pastel on velour paper) ..You mostly all know I like a LOOSE approach, but these last two portraits seem even looser for me...I think. :)) This is 9 x 11" unframed pastel on velour paper. $250 plus S/H

Spring #8 Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 Spring 9 x 12 inches Oil on Canvas.  Available Paintings by L Pace   Usually my paintings are bright and full of contrast. This morning's painting is thick and rich with energy contrast in the pulls of paint. Some of the paint is a quarter inch deep.  This will take until late March before it can ship, but this horse painting is available, along with others directly on my website, or visit my galleries for larger paintings. Terry has been busy up in the garage. We have an attic space up there but only a tiny crawl space to get up there from the garage. Inside the house we have a huge walk up access to another attic area, but this one is special.  He intends to put a door in a room that backs up to this huge space and make this area a huge closet. It is actually large enough to be a full reading room or play room for a child. Not sure wh...

San Luis Pass, Beach

San Luis Pass Freeport, Texas 8 x 10 Oil on Panel Randall Cogburn Click to Purchase on  eBay Auction A view of the Gulf of Mexico looking under the San Luis Pass Toll Bridge on the Freeport side during a fog bank that kept coming in by the minute. The seagulls didn't mind a bit, life as usual. I was watching a group of gulls bobbing around and what might have been a shark came thrashing through getting some grub.

Lester by Suzy Pal Powell

A couple of years ago, my son called and told me Lester  was coming to shoe his horses and mules, if I wanted pictures. So I grabbed my camera and took off. He is about 30 minutes away. When I got there he was already through and loaded up, and I was so disappointed, so he got his tools out, and posed for me! I took quite a few photos. I have known Lester for a long time, so he didn't seem to mind to help me out! This is done on 300 pound hot press watercolor paper, using transparent watercolors as well as some gouache.  It will be 18x24 framed.

"Red Lily" by Leslie Sealey

"Red Lily" is fresh off the easel. It took weeks to complete, with lots of layering and glazing to get all the reflections, raindrops, and lily colors just right.  I'm very happy with the way it turned out!  This oil painting will be available at the upcoming  Stribling Art Extravaganza  in San Angelo, TX from March 21-23, 2014. Vast Horse 7 Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace #horsepainting #lauriepaceart #100horsepaintings

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 VAST 9 x 12 inches Oil on Canvas.  Available Here. I love using left over palette. I have been working on a buffalo painting and of course these are some of the strongest colors in the painting and I had 'leftovers' on my palette.  There is a natural flow to both the color and the movement which is really neat to me as I rotated the canvas adding colors not really paying attention to the patterns or overlays. The composition is as strong as the single horse as a strong foundation behind the 'etching' of the horse.  Touches of Lavender, reds, oranges, mauves and turquoise season the painting. 9 x 12 inches, this freshly painted oil is Horse #7 in this years 100 Horses for $100, but please note NOT in 100 days.  These are so creative and magical to me as I paint them, I want to keep them fresh and unforced. This is a second series, with the first 100 h...

"Aqua Dreams" Palette Knife Aspen Tree Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Aqua Dreams” ©2014 Niki Gulley 36” x 60” textured oil on canvas When we arrived at this tranquil spot, the early morning light was very cool in color, but as the sun began to rise from the horizon, it shone this beautiful warm light that shimmered on the water’s surface and cast its hope of what was to come from the brand new day. I remember the peacefulness I felt in that moment, and a sense that anything was possible. In Aqua Dreams, by showing the contrast in the cool aqua/blues in the foreground waters against the warm golden glow on the distant pond’s edge, I wanted to share that feeling of hope and promise communicated by nature. Plein Air Red Fence Shadows | Barbara Haviland - Blog Blog Plein Air Red Fence Shadows By Barbara Haviland on 2/25/2014 5:13:19 PM Comment on this © Barbara Haviland This was my second attempt at Plein Air on our trip to Marchita's studio.  We had so much fun painting. I loved how the shadows hit that red fence. I believe the trees were crept myrtle.  Anyway the sun hitting the fence making those pretty shadows was it for me. http://barbarahaviland.fineartstudioonline.com/workszoom/1398839

"Dallas Sky" 26x48, Oil on Canvas, commission by Dawn Waters Baker

"Dallas Sky" 26x48, Oil on Canvas     Just finished this commission yesterday for a wonderful lady.   I always tell people that living in Dallas the sky makes up for the landscape. I still feel that way. The beauty of the colors and blends that you get in the sky down here is so beautiful. Truly God paints His abstract art in the sky.

Driftwood .....Artist Rae Andrews

The image above is the finished piece. I am a bad girl, as I brought from Australia some lovely pieces of Melaleuca bark in order to do this collage. :(( I did several pieces like this while in college many years ago, and they all sold, which is a good thing. However I wanted one for myself. So the day before I left Australia for Texas I took a walk and began taking some of the colorful bark to stash in my suitcase. I used a piece of Strathmore Bristol paper not particularly a pastel paper surface, however it worked well for this. I used matt medium to adhere the bark then worked my drawing around the bark pieces. I finished the piece in pastel and charcoal. I also left the small flecks of white paper showing through the black areas, fiddly but I like the effect. My use of the design panels is random, each drawing I did in college had differing panels, it depended on the way I wanted the piece to be seen.(for memory there were around five of these drawings done)....

Pleasure Pier

Pleasure Pier Galveston Island, Texas 8 x 8 Oil on Panel Randall Cogburn Click to Purchase on eBay Auction Had a chance to get back down to Galveston and lucked up with some unbelievable fog rolling in. After about ten minutes at the Sea Wall I took a trip down to East Beach to see what was going on then as I head back down the beach it completely engulfed the Seawall and I was barely able to see the surf. What made it interesting was the sun was beaming bright which lit up a lot of areas.  The Pleasure Pier is a fun park with ferrous wheels and fun and games. The small pier at the end used to be a fishing pier but no longer since the last Hurricane rendered it useless. The Flagship Pier is what this pier used to be called, with a big Hotel on top. Surfers used to jump off it and you can imagine from the looks is a pretty big drop.

Blue Range Abstract Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 Blue Range 9 x 12 inches Oil on Canvas.  Available Here.  This was part of the three paint from left over Acrylics as well. The colors are stronger and the layers are higher.  There is a tussle and a compromise with the color palette and the movement of the knife.  Compromise is something important in life as well... finding a compromise means adapting to the needs of someone else. A lesson open to the current generation is really stuck on the selfies. Growing away from self and opening your life and heart to serving others leads to happiness. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1John 4:4 #horsepainting  #lauriepaceart  #equineart Laurie Pace A Texas Artist   My Blog        ...

I love teaching flower painting in the most beautiful gardens in Texas, and this will be a great time of year to get dozens of flower photos during the lunch break! Okay, dozens is a conservative estimate. I've been known to fill up an entire cell phone's worth of memory in 2 hours at the Arboretum before. My husband seems to find this quite astounding, though I'm sure all of you, my flower fanatic friends, are sympathetic to the cause....! Dallas Arboretum Flower Painting Workshop June 2...

New Spring Aspen Tree Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"Coming Together" ©2014 Niki Gulley Textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas • 40" x 30" In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. Choosing calming greens against a lavender-blue peaceful sky and arranging the two main aspens so that they meet in the middle, suggests a feeling of togetherness. While organizing the outlying trees in a circular pattern and using thick, curving, bold orange brushstrokes, creates a joyful, playful mood.
