"Memories of Sunshine II" ©2018 Niki Gulley 30" x 40" textured painting on wrap around canvas "Memories of Sunshine" was inspired by our trip to Provence, France last summer. Our timing was perfect and the sunflowers were in full bloom. Their bright, smiling faces as big as dinner plates, the sun dappled path leading you deep into the golden field to the quaint stone farmhouse in the distance, and a beautiful summer day with a few peaceful clouds drifting by made for the ideal subject. The resulting painting is full of warmth, color and texture, and my hope is that when you gaze into it, this piece lifts your spirits and brightens up any spot in your home. Picking Up Lunch By Bruce Bingham 10 x 20  oil on aluminum  I was bummed when Picking Up Lunch didn't get into the OPA Show, but that's the way things go. No worries. There's always another show. This painting is headed back home to Va. Beach and will be available through Beach Gallery. The show is called Life On The Lynnhaven. One of my favorite things about growing up in that area are the ospreys. They were almost wiped out because of DDT used in the 60's and it's wonderful to see them make a come back. They have unique characteristics including mating for life and  often returning to the same nest to breed in year after year. My favorite  osprey watching spot is Seashore State Park in Va. Beach. So one morning when the light was sparkling through the leaves, I decided to set my easel up along the road to capture its beauty and mystery. “Sunny Horizon" ©2018 Niki Gulley 30" x 48" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas Inspired by a trip through the Midwest, I was filled with joy seeing this solid field of gold! At the same time, the clouds above were so voluminous and dramatic that I had to recreate the scene. The horizon stretches out before us as festive blossoms dance in the early evening glow. Leaving my strokes loose and free and working with palette knife to create volume and texture, all add to the energy of the painting. I hope you, too, can feel the peace and happiness of being surrounded by nature in all of its glory, staring into the clouds while soaking in the moment. “Aqua Dreams” ©2018 Niki Gulley 36” x 60” textured oil on canvas When we arrived at this tranquil spot, the early morning light was very cool in color, but as the sun began to rise from the horizon, it shone this beautiful warm light that shimmered on the water’s surface and cast its hope of what was to come from the brand new day. I remember the peacefulness I felt in that moment, and a sense that anything was possible. In Aqua Dreams, by showing the contrast in the cool aqua/blues in the foreground waters against the warm golden glow on the distant pond’s edge, I wanted to share that feeling of hope and promise communicated by nature. I painted this to represent the resiliency and pride of the Puerto Rican people. In spite of their recent tragedy, they continue to move forward. "Marching into Autumn" ©2018 Niki Gulley 10" x 20" textured oil on canvas I painted this colorful autumn scene near my home when the fall foliage was first starting to appear. I loved the vibrant reds, oranges and yellows of the cypress contrasted against the multitude of greens surrounding it. The patterns of the shadows underneath the trees created a sort of rhythm and I played up the angles of the trees and strokes to add to that feeling of a driving beat. I hope you, too, can feel the energy and joy of being surrounded by nature as autumn approaches.
