"Peaceful Poppies" ©2018 Niki Gulley  11" x 14” textured oil painting, framed in espresso I was particularly drawn to this peaceful scene with the calm waters in the distance and the happy clouds drifting by overhead. The explosion of crimson from the poppies was so vibrant and beautiful that I had to capture the moment. Random Ideas 40" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Abstract Painting Sometimes I feel like my brain has all these ideas for painting and I can't get into the studio fast enough to get the paint on the canvas.  That is exactly what happened when I painted this colorful abstract. "Diagonal Patterns," Provence ©2018 Niki Gulley 9" x 12" textured oil painting I painted "Diagonal Patterns" on location in Provence during our Plein Air Painting and Photography Art Trek Workshop my husband and I led in France. The lavender fields were amazing, and stretched as far as the eye could see! I wanted to focus on these perfectly planted purple rows, contrasted against the vibrant yellow sunflowers in the distance. I loved how those colors popped next to each other! I chose to lower the horizon line so that I could include these amazing clouds drifting by in diagonal patterns that mimicked the lavender aisles.  That also gave the painting an idea of space so that you could sense the fragrant purple beauties stretching for miles. Little Red Rooster 12" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Rooster and Chicken Series This small painting is loose, colorful and playful. Thick paint was applied with a filbert --- you can see globs of oil and the paint oozing onto the canvas.  I had originally painted a rooster who was stiff, and looked like a statue, so I totally repainted him and had fun doing so.
