Working on oversized canvases and painting the blossoms larger than life add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Choosing to leave the background airy and working with thick layers of white on white paint, ribbons of brightly colored blooms dance across the canvas with spontaneity and freedom. Subconsciously, I feel like these light-filled visions came to me in response to so much bad news and the COVID lockdown. Searching for a way to create more space, room to roam and the freedom to live life to its fullest, I hope these paintings bring the beauty of nature inside and fill your spirit with light and cheer.   “Blue Rhapsody III" ©2022 Niki Gulley 34" x 34" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of our berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms and their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.
