In Need of Ade - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

In Need of Ade 11x14 Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara  I've been trying to figure out how to work this bowl in almost every still life I've set up since I bought it a few weeks ago.  I finally thought it might look good with some lemons and limes. I really enjoyed painting the details in the bowl, the little dark red rim around the outside, the slightly raised edge along the rim before the bowl dips down, and, of course, the painted details in the bottom of the bowl. I was trying to do a lot with transparent washes with this one, especially with the surface the lemons and bowl are on. I did have to use thicker and more opaque paint here and there, but that's okay. I like the effect of thick over thin paint. Transformations - Original Abstract Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Filomena Booth

Transformations 36"x36"x1.5" Acrylic on Canvas I am very excited to be included in this group of Texas fine artists and hope to contribute often to this blog! Transistions is painted on a heavily textured canvas in Golden Acrylic paints, my favorites.  For all the advantages of acrylics, there is one distinct disadvantage...they dry too fast.  Over the years, I've learned to apply thin glazes of color to achieve a somewhat blended look and to help intigrate the composition into a whole. Please visit my website to see my entire portfolio of original abstract paintings.  To inquire about this painting, please contact me  or follow my blog .  Filomena de Andrade Booth Texas Contemporary Abstract Artist

Garden Tapestry, Sunflowers by Nancy Medina

Garden Tapestry, Sunflowers by Nancy Medina Center Detail 48X22 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Garden Tapestry is almost complete, save the signature, and it will be ready to ship to my client. Take a peek at my art blog to see the painting in its entirety . This large work of art will adorn a kitchen wall in Montreal, Canada, and I hope it brings light and blossoms to a home that sees a bit more winter than Flower Mound, Texas. It has been such a delight to be assigned a commission to paint all of my favorite flowers. I feel like the proverbial kid in the candy store being able to create something on this scale, and I also keep remembering the day in the summer when I was about 8 years old when my mother gave me a giant, tiered box of 84 bran new perfect Crayola crayons. I love painting large and with bright color, perhaps this is more color than some would prefer, but it makes me smile.

Room For One - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Room For One 8x10 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara  I've been dying to paint this vase since I bought it a few weeks ago. It has such interesting color to it when the light shines through it. I also have a taller, skinner one that I can't wait to use in a set up one day. While I was painting this, I kept thinking to myself that the one apple stuck in the vase had turned to the other apples who where hoping to get in and said "There's only room for one, fellas." Of course, the next thought in my head was, how can I make that into a shorter title. Fall Light by Sheri Jones

Fall Light by Sheri Jones 20 x 16 oil on canvas This was inspired by my desire for cooler temperatures and fall colors. I painted a small study on location last year and took a few photos. I painted this from the photo and it looks totally different than the original study. I used the same colors, but used a different design. The paint was applied with a palette knife and lots of colorful paint. This painting is available for purchase. Sheri@sheriart.net sheriart.net sheriart.blogspot.com

Plein Air Painting & Photography Workshops - Tuscany with Niki Gulley

"Poppy Passion" ©2010 Niki Gulley 18" x 36" oil painting Our upcoming workshop that we're teaching in Tuscany makes me think about the gorgeous poppy fields blooming along the rolling Italian hills in springtime. To think that such a delicate flower can produce that powerful explosion of color when planted in mass boggles my senses. Seeing that sudden burst of intense orange or red against the azure blue sky after miles of green countryside is quite amazing. I love how complimentary colors, like blue and orange, vibrate when placed next to each other and I wanted to communicate that beauty and excitement in "Poppy Passion," while reliving some of my favorite vacation memories from Tuscany – the warmth of the people, the beauty of the rolling hills and vineyards, the delicious, savory slow-grown food and wine and enjoying the laid-back, smell-the-roses time with my loved ones. If you like to see "Poppy Passion" in person and you're in the ...

It looks like a sunflower factory exploded here. Sunflower Symmetry was painted at the end of a marathon painting session yesterday based upon the fresh daisies and sunflowers I bought at the grocery store. Though I do work from my own photography on the computer screen, I also keep fresh flowers in the studio for most of my artwork projects. I've shared a picture of Sunflower Symmetry in front of the fresh flowers that inspired them on my art blog - take a peek and let me know what you think!

Sedona Inspired "Canyon Wall" by Judy Wilder-Dalton

I worked on a very textured canvas.  One I had painted over a painting that I was not happy with.  In the texture I used a combination of liquid gesso and matte medium.  As it developed,  I realized that it was definitely an inspired painting.

A Goodbye - Thaw Malin iii

"A Goodbye", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel. An artist friend treated me to a new, private location from which to paint. It was fun to see old favorite views from a different angle/perspective. However, it was the vanishing sailboat which drew me to paint this view. It is not often I may find a dune with a path through it and a sail off in the distance. Nor is it often, in the summer season, when there is a beach without a multitude of people upon it. I was grateful for the quiet... If you'd like to purchase, please click Go to my Auction, bidding starts at $100.00 US. Subscribe to my "New Paintings" mailing list. Waiting for the Vase - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Waiting for the Vase 5x7 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara When my wife brought home these carnations, I thought they might be a nice change of pace from all of the fruit and vegetables I've been painting lately. They also gave me a chance to use one of the new plates I picked up last week at the thrift store. I really enjoy painting these types of plates with the decorative border on them.  It's such a great design element.  I can't quite put my finger on why that is, other then they usually have some great colors in them and they bring a certain level of detail to the painting that I really like. Adult Art Classes with Niki Gulley

“Rhythmic Waters VI” ©2010 Niki Gulley 12” x 12” oil on canvas I created this ocean scene with palette knife and extremely thick oil paint to achieve texture and suggest the energy found in nature. I wanted to capture that magical moment when the sun sets near the horizon and casts it’s sparkling glow over the ocean’s surface while illuminating the sky. The image is painted around the sides of the 1.5 inch deep gallery wrap canvas so that it looks three-dimensional and can be hung as is without a frame for a contemporary look. These chunky ocean paintings look great in pairs, threes and fours. To see my “Rhythmic Waters” series in person, stop by my booth at the Art Street Green Bay art show this weekend in Green Bay, WI. "The Real Doll"

Have you ever been confronted with the perfect doll ? I was involved in a life drawing class when I glanced in the corner & saw the daughter of the model trying on hats from the prop box. Of course I envisioned her sitting amongst a group of antique French dolls. The little doll dressed in white is a German doll with a "broken" nose. The real challenge was to paint the "glass" eyes of all the dolls. A couple of them had to be repainted because I went too far & made them human. This original painting will be included in the Fall Art Show at the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Tx in Nov-Dec ....Gouache, 18 x 24, custom matted & framed http://www.vonniekohn.com/ http://vonniekohn-blogspot.com/

Some Weather, Huh? - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Some Weather, Huh? 8x10 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara  The weather here in Texas has been so brutally hot these last few weeks, I couldn't help but think of the beach. Today topped out to 115 degrees, according to my car's thermometer and I think this has been the 22nd out of 23 days that we've topped 100.  The breeziness of the coast would be very welcome now.  That reminded me of the awesome shorebird sanctuary close to the Texas A&M Corpus Christi campus my wife and I visited over our anniversary.  It was a hot, quiet place teeming with brown and white pelicans, egrets, and, more excitingly,Roseate spoonbills.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good reference photo of the spoonbills because they were just too far away.  These seagulls were much more bold and I think they knew they were safe there enjoying that hot day at the beach. There they were, just sitting in the water without a care in the world About half way throug...

Climbing Trees IV oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Climbing Trees IV” ©2010 Niki Gulley 40” x 30” oil on canvas Growing up in Chicago, I loved the first snowfall of the year when everything would get a beautiful dusting of pristine white powder, including even the tiniest of branches in the treetops above. If you caught that moment early enough in the morning before anything had disturbed the intricate frosted web, it was just magical. Then the sun would start rising and peeking through the limbs, and everything would sparkle like diamonds. In Climbing Trees, I wanted to capture that brief beautiful moment when the sunlight dances through the icing on the treetops and you can feel yourself looking up in wonderment just like you did when you were a kid. To see “Climbing Trees” in person, stop by my booth at the Art Street Green Bay art show this weekend in Green Bay, WI. For more information on the show, go to artseventsinc.com/artstreet. Apricots with Plum - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Apricots with Plum 5x7 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara When I noticed that my wife had purchased some apricots at the store, I thought to myself  "I've never painted those before" and so I set up this still life. Originally I had included some black grapes, but as I was painting, I thought the whole thing looked a little busy, so I took them out. Although I had a lot of fun with the reflections I had to really spend some time working them out. I only wish I could have included more of the bowl so I could have had even more reflection, but I didn't want the fruit to get too small.
