Valentine Memories - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Valentine Memories 11x14 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid . When I set up this still life, I made sure to give myself plenty of time to get things the way I wanted. It's amazing how much of a difference that makes for me. I feel more relaxed when painting and generally don't run into as many surprises half way through the painting. I also did a fairly detailed under painting for this one before laying in any color. I don't always do this; sometimes I just make some general marks about where things will go. I'm not sure which method I prefer. The truth is I use which ever one I feel is the best choice at the time.  If you would like to see complete step by step pictures of this painting in progress with complete explanations, sign up for my free newsletter at http://georgedechiara.com/email-newsletter . The next issue will come out at the end of the week. Visit my web site to see more of my work. http://g...

Dog Study - by Palette Knife Artist, Judy Mackey

"Dog Study - Stella" 6" x  6", Oil on Board Available on my Website, click this sentence to be sent there This is from a photo I took of my dog, Stella.  I wanted to practice painting her because I might add it to a painting I have in mind.   Stella loves to go for walks even if it's to nowhere in particular.  She senses that it might be a walk if I put on either my tennis shoes or my gardening shoes.  And as I go outside, she'll usually walk a few steps ahead of me though she has no idea where I might be going.  I like indulging and walk a bit even if I' wasn't planning on taking a walk just to make her happy.  She has a "happy" walk, almost a skip sort of walk when she's walking with me.  And when I took this photo she didn't even know I was capturing her to use as a model some day in one of my paintings. . Palo Duro Canyon by Sheri Jones

Palo Duro Canyon by Sheri Jones 20 x 24 oil on wood panel I created this from a study I painted at Palo Duro Canyon. This is in the panhandle of Texas outside of Amarillo. Palo Duro Canyon is 120 miles long, up to 20 miles wide, and up to 820 feet deep, making it the United States' second largest canyon. I had a request from a niece to create a painting for her dorm room. She is from Amarillo and wanted one of the canyon. So Happy Birthday Callie! This one's for you. Love you. I'm Here - Angel Painting by Judy Mackey

"I'm Here" 8 x 8 inches Oil on Raymar Board Available - CLICK HERE Another from my series on Angels.  this started as an angel holding an umbrella but I was not really happy with it.  So actually this is a re-do - repaint - fixed up - painting.  I still wanted the angel to hold an umbrella - maybe I got that idea from an insurance ad, nonethelsss, I think angels do look out for us......so here is one holding out an umbrella to protect us from the storms.  I changed the postion of her arms and her body and changed the color to a more soothing softer shade using the same pallete as the painting I'd done earlier called Angel Thoughts.    The arm positoning was a suggestion from my painting buddy, Barbara whom I paint with nearly every week.  It's good having a painting buddy to paint and talk art with.  In a sense, she's my painting angel.  So if you haven't got one, do find someone to paint with.  It "makes" you paint - which is a good...

Touch of Summer Sunflower by Nancy Medina

Touch of Summer Sunflower 6X8 Oil on Linen Board My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Touch of Summer Sunflower, my newest painting, seems like just what the doctor ordered today, as another cold front is headed to North Texas. Any time the temperatures dip below 60s, the studio assistants plant their round selves in front of the heaters and only stray from them if food or cooking activities commence. Someday I hope to live just as they do, a life of extreme comfort! For now, I must toil away, in order to keep them in the manner to which they are accustomed. It is my honor and my privilege, I am so darn lucky to have them. Take a peek at my art blog to see one of my assistants demonstrating his favorite passtime!

All Creatures Great and Small

I had intended to write on a totally different subject, but realized that 5 of my last 6 paintings posted were of animals, so thought this would be more appropriate. I have always had a strong connection with animals. Not just to the normal cats and dogs. Fur, feathers or scales, it didn't matter. I was captivated. I could relate to them more than people, easily getting inside their heads and understanding their motivations, their reactions, their fears. One of my favorite books I had as a kid was a field guide to bats that I bought with allowance money at the Heard Museum in McKinney, Texas. The grocery store carried an 'animal encyclopedia' book series. My mom would buy one each week. I'd be excitedly waiting for each one. Unfortunately, I never got the entire set, but I read what I had over and over and studied the pictures of the animals. Neighbors would ask my parents if they could 'borrow' me if their pet escaped and wouldn't come to them...they woul...

Sweet Hearts - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Sweet Hearts 3x5 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid . Here is another painting I did using those small candy hearts. This time I thought I'd do more with the hearts themselves, so I took out the plate and box that I used yesterday. There's a little piece of glass under the candy that gives just a slight reflection. I like to do this from time to time. The reflections give an interesting little hint of color to the piece of paper under the glass.     My wife is clamoring for a painting like this for Valentine's Day, so I think I am on to something here. Double Diva Sunflowers by Nancy Medina

Double Diva Sunflowers by Nancy Medina 11X14 Oil on Linen Board My Art Blog My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Lights, cameras, action! Double Diva Sunflowers was drying on the easel as I assembled my new photo cube tent, which just arrived a few hours ago. I've struggled for years with trying to get photos of paintings with no glare, having to tilt them or go outside during certain times when the sun was at just the right angle. Last week, I ordered the photo tent kit from Discount Tommy. It was easy to put together, though one of the little spotlights immediately broke, and the other started melting after being plugged in for five minutes. I was still pretty proud I figured out how to pop up the cube. Next I have to figure out how to re-fold it! Since the instructions that arrived with the package were indecipherable, I will be on Youtube this evening, watching instructional videos that others have kindly shared. Wish me luck. If I can't refold it, the pugs will...

Be Mine - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Be Mine 5x7 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid .  Here's another one in my Valentine series. This time it's those hard little hearts with the little sayings on them. I haven't had these since I was a kid and I have to say the flavor has improved a lot since then. The little sayings, however, have not. I seem to remember almost all of them saying be mine, but I had to look through almost the whole box to find one that actually said it. Of course I found a few defective ones that I needed to eat to get rid of. I don't want those defects messing up my arrangements. Stargazer Lily by Sheri Jones

Stargazer Lily by Sheri Jones 14 x 11 oil on Raymar canvas panel The highlight of my Friday was going to the grocery store to buy flowers for the weekend. They were fully stocked and had a wide variety to choose from. I was excited to get started with this one. The background started out as a deep red and it wasn't working. I changed it to green and that really made the lilies pop. I painted this with a lot of thick paint letting the layer of red show thru.. This painting is available for purchase. $150.00 Sheri@sheriart.net sheriart.net sheriart.blogspot.com

Sailing Class by Debbie Cannatella

SAILING CLASS 2"x2" Transparent Watercolor Miniature by Debbie Cannatella Corpus Christi, Tx (sold) Lately I have developed an interest in miniatures. I'm pretty rusty on these, because my preferred size is about 200% larger and this size is so new to me! But I am fascinated with the way miniatures draw the viewer in. I've only painted a half-dozen of these, but half have sold before I could get them framed. My gallery is waiting for me to get a large enough set completed to be able to hang them all for an opening.

V-I-P (Vanitas in Progress) Day 6 - Kirk Witmer

It's progressing nicely, but slowly. I've taken WIP pics every day, but I didn't want to bore you all with them. (I know. "Just Waking" aka Chloe Monster

This is kitten Chloe. I was tempted to name this "Chloe Monster" since that is the nickname she has acquired. I painted this over several evenings. Two of which were interrupted by the sound of breaking glass. First a small glass containing a single daisy had been knocked off the counter. The second was the Christmas garland bannister decoration being pulled off with pine cones, berries and glass ornaments scattered everywhere. Chloe had a little help from sister Olive with that one. A second painting of her sleeping -looking deceptively sweet- will be posted soon. Actually, both kittens are incredibly affectionate. They are just at a highly curious stage of development. Chocolate Hearts - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Chocolate Hearts 3x5 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid . It seems like we just get done with Christmas and the New Year when Valentine's day comes around. I guess it doesn't help that the store have had Valentine's Day gifts out now since right after Christmas. Well, today I finally went down the "seasonal" aisle at the grocery store and picked up a few things to try painting. I bought a bag of chocolates, a box of those candy conversational hearts, and a nice little heart shaped plate. I hope over the next few days to do several small paintings with these objects and maybe one larger piece with some of these things in it. If you're looking for a unique, one of a kind Valentine's gift this year, why not give the gift of an original piece of art? No calories and your loved one can enjoy it for years to come. They're Not Dancing Yet - palette knife oil painting by Debbie Grayson Lincoln

24 X 30 Oil on Canvas Contact Artist for Availability This painting is a bit different for me. It's painted with a palette knife over another image that was a semi-abstract that I just could not finish. It was also two horses fighting, so I have kept with the theme, but changed the composition and color - a LOT. These rich warm browns and earth tones really look cool in my studio, too, so I will be happy to live with it in here for a while. If you are interested in this little painting, click here to send me an email . I accept checks and Paypal. I can also arrange LAYAWAY. To view my latest paintings on Daily Painters go HERE.
