Abiding Love Red Geranium Flower Painting by Nancy Medina Texas Artist

Abiding Love Geraniums by Nancy Medina 16X12 Oil on Archival Panel Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Following an excursion after dark into the yard to cut flowers from my container garden, Abiding Love Geraniums took the place of some uncooperative white lilies. Sometimes a vase argues with me, and sometimes a flower will demand emancipation from the spotlight. That's when the Viva paper towel dipped in a tiny bit of turpenoid comes in handy to wipe the slate clean, and an entirely new painting evolves. After several days of white flowers in red vases, it seems proper to tilt things a bit and paint red flowers in a white-silver vase, don't you think? The studio models take a bow!

Contemporary Roosters and Chickens by Kay Wyne

Contemporary Roosters and Chickens This painting is a fun and colorful piece that I completed last week.  I was experimenting with the background, using ink.  The expressive roosters and chickens are in oils.  This is on a 36" x 36" gallery wrap canvas, so it is ready to hang...a frame is optional.  I need to title this painting....any suggestions would be appreciated!  This painting is c urrently hanging in  Dallas at the Dutch Art Gallery .    Thanks for viewing.  Kay@kwyne.com.

Gold In Them There Hills   ©   8x6 inches  * Oil on panel George De Chiara Click here to bid.  When I made plans to go painting with a few friends at Tandy Hills, I assumed we'd have a beautiful sunny day since that's what we've had for the most part every day this fall. Somehow, it seems like the weather knows it's time for me to paint because that rascally sun stayed mostly hidden behind the clouds most of the morning. Qiang Huang set this week's Daily Paintworks challenge as the "Color of Blue."  To add to the challenge the painting should be high key and no red or orange is to be used as a contrast.  I immediately thought of my husband's shirt.  I painted it on a panel with a black ground on it.  I like it!  Thanks for a great challenge! "Harbor Moon" - Thaw Malin iii

"Harbor Moon", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel. At different times, I have sailed by, walked by, driven by, gotten close and moved afar to view this black hulled vessel. The large shape and oh so dark a black is not a color subject I would normally choose. But the mystery of ship drew me to it. I chose an evening with a falling breeze and donned my winter gear to keep me warm in the cold of the shadows as I worked. The ticking time bomb of the leaving light kept me focused and working fast. Painting from top to bottom, as I got to the details of docks and boat, the moon unexpectedly appeared. While it climbed the heavens as I moved my paints, I held my breath for fear my time was up and it would disappear before it reached it full splendor just about the eastern cloud bank... If think you'd like to purchase this piece, please click Go to my Auction, bidding starts at $100.00 USD. ...

Rolled Gold  ©   11x14 inches   *   Oil on panel George De Chiara If this scene looks familiar, it's because I painted a smaller version of this same spot a few weeks ago. Blue Monday Lilies Step by Step by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Blue Monday Lilies by Nancy Medina 10X8 Oil on Archival Panel Purchase Information Free Shipping Through the Holidays! Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Art  I decide what to paint each day as almost the last step before picking up the brush. I mix most of my colors directly on the canvas, with the color reaction occurring when the brush picks up the hue beneath and around where it touches the surface. Visit my art blog today to see this painting step by step, and hear more about how it was created. I intentionally staged some orange on blue in Blue Monday Lilies, can you tell where I did that? You as the artist have the tools to create drama in your paintings, find opportunities in your floral setups to lay brilliant complements atop one another. Lay a stroke of pure color and fight the urge to blend it away. Don't turn down the volume, turn it up. Let your color sing! The studio  models take a bow!

"Cascading Rhythms" Palette knife oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Cascading Rhythms” ©2012 Niki Gulley 12” x 24” textured oil on canvas Water pounds its way down the falls: cascading, rushing, charging into the riverbed -- flowing over rocks, swiftly moving forward. Untamed, the surge finds its way over, under, around the boulder-strewn river. Tumbling waters drive up mists above the falls, the rhythmic sounds create a soothing harmony below. Autumn’s low light casts long lines through the Aspen trees and glowing verge. E-mail Niki Gulley for more information on her contemporary landscape paintings. Please visit  NikiGulley.com .

Sunny Geraniums by Sheri Jones

Sunny Geraniums 14x11 oil on canvas This was inspired by  a photo taken in Pienza, Italy. It was on our last day and we were given free time to wander and shop. I found these bright red flowers in the courtyard of an old hotel. I was attracted to the contrast between the old stone work and the shadowed courtyard. It made the flowers pop. I painted this with a palette knife and lots of colorful paint. This is available for purchase. $300.00 Sheri@sheriart.net www.sheriart.net www.sheriart.blogspot.com www.cfai.co/sherijones/

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027 by Kay Wyne

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027 22" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Palette Knife Painting This abstract went through alot of changes before it was completed. When I started it, I was using a totally different color scheme and did not know I was going in this direction. I applied layers and layers of color...there is alot of movement and depth in this abstract. I used both the brush and palette knife on this one. Lines, shapes, color and texture...it is all on this canvas. I really like this size canvas...it hangs well above a dark piece of furnture or tilted up against the wall, sitting on a table or cabinet. This contemporary abstract is on gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is needed. It is ready to hang! Thanks so much for viewing this blog. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing this painting. Have a great day! Kay Contact me:  kay@kwyne.com  or 214-532-0325.

"Fire and Gold" Contemporary birch oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Fire and Gold" ©2012 Niki Gulley oil on canvas • 36" x 48" I love the first signs of fall – the crisp feel in the air, the crunching of leaves underfoot, the beautiful autumn colors, and being totally immersed in nature in the middle of a forest without a care in the world. In Fire and Gold I wanted to recreate that joyful feeling, choosing warm reds and yellows of autumn and using energetic strokes with my paint to heighten that mood. Building up first thin transparent layers and then thick textured layers of oil paint also add to a certain glow and magic in the final piece. E-mail  Niki Gulley  for more information. Fall Sumac, by Jill Randall

Fall Sumac, by Jill Randall 9”x12” Oil    I have painted in this area with my friend, Sheri Jones, several times.   But In the past, I couldn’t quite capture the colors or get the paint thick enough.   I love the way Sheri uses the palette knife to get her rich colors and decided to give it a try.   With a photo for reference, I used my small palette knife which was fun and very satisfying to paint the fall colors.

Forgotten Dreams Series: Rhinoceros

This is one of an ever expanding series of paintings called "Forgotten Dreams". I was inspired by cave paintings from all over the world. I used lots of texture to lend the work the look and feel of stone. I used charcoal and dry pigments to lend an air of authenticity to the work. I am amazed at the sophistication of our ancient ancestors and the beauty of their work that still survives.

Shades of White Lilies and Red Berries by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Shades of White Lilies and Red Berries by Nancy Medina 16X12 Oil on Panel Purchase Information Flower Painting Workshops Nancy Medina Web Site Shades of White Lilies and Red Berries is the newest work in Flower Mound Studio, as we continue to celebrate my new red vase *sound of trumpets*. The first time I knew I'd be painting the vase was on my way to teach a class in North Texas. I studied all of the red and maroon cars and trucks I passed along the way, thinking about what shades would be most striking lying next to one another (my students know, this is where I say "lay the color next to, but not on top of, the shade next to it, and blend only where they touch!") Fight the urge to blend blend blend and let those pure color notes to shine! Here's to shining over the holiday season to come - be colorful, and don't let anyone dim your wattage!
