Jimmy Longacre_subjective realist landscape paintings_AUSTIN TOWERS

Forgive the corny title.  I'm easily amused.   This is part of a series of experiments where I'm teaching myself to work with much thicker paint than my comfort zone dictates.  It's a lot of fun to cut the ties with how I'm used to working and having to deal with what's happening with the paint.  It's so easy to get trapped repeating what has worked in the past, and just trying to go with that. Don't get me wrong, there's a place for developing what you know, especially when galleries are expecting you to deliver dependable, recognizable work.  But, there's also a time for doing what feeds our creative impulse to explore.  For that we have to go outside our comfort zone. Oyster Shell by Contemporary Coastal Artist Kristine Kainer

© Kristine Kainer 2014 6x6 Oil on Canvas Purchase Information As many of you know, I love to eat shellfish, then take the shells home in a doggy bag.  Recently, I was visiting my father in Florida and had the opportunity to dine on the freshest shellfish daily.  Unfortunately, bringing the shells back to his house, then lugging them home on the plane was not an option.  Thank goodness I had my handy dandy iPhone camera at the ready!  Here's to my model, somewhere in Florida.... Night Crossing Horse Paintings, Contemporary Palette Knife Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Night Crossing     © +Laurie Pace         Graphics One Design 2014  Size:24 x 24  Oil on Canvas. Sold Prints are available.  Contact me. Available Paintings by Laurie Pace  I fell in love with the movement on this painting as it evolved on the canvas. The palette was quiet compared to my normal rainbow palette, but the energy was high and the movement of paint led the eye throughout this contemporary horse painting.  Completed with caramel browns, ultramarine blues, white, mauves and mixes of all three...the palette offers up earth tones in a quiet deep thrust.  You cannot plan this type painting. It comes from deep within the creative spirit.    In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;     in the morning I lay my requests before you     and wait expectantly. Daisy Hearts and Delphs - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina

Daisy Hearts and Delphs by Nancy Medina 24X24 Oil on Deep Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information My new hydrangea DVD France, Italy and the US - Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter Daisy Hearts and Delphs is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, another large canvas after weeks of small paintings. I felt the need to stretch those brushes! I couldn't decide whether to subdue the pinks on this one, or keep them full blast. Thanks to my Facebook friends who made some great suggestions and - the vote to keep the pinks strong was unanimous! I carried the orange around by moving it into the belly buttons of the daisies, and then scattered pink petals on the tabletop corners, too. I like to think of this part as getting my chicken out, strapping his boots on, and letting him walk that color around the canvas. That's my farm girl roots showing a bit.....

Water Lilies 2 - Oil Painting 36 X 36 by Texas Artist Anton Zhou

Being done on a square canvas, this is the second painting in my water lily series. I try to mix it up a bit and paint on different scales, whether it be extremely large surfaces or a more stretched out horizontal canvas, which is really idea for artworks like this that include ponds and water. This piece is composed of similar techniques from my first painting, with a vast variety of color and palette knife strokes. VIBRATION OF COLOR BY ARTIST PAT MEYER

14 X 11 OIL ON LINEN CONTACT ARTIST TO PURCHASE PAT@MEYER.NET The main goal of this painting was to have the colors vibrate against each other just as in a Monet painting but with a modern twist.  This was accomplished by using the lime green against the pinks, reds, purples, oranges and whites.  Overall wanted the painting to be bright and cheerful. Day 3, Paris Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams – Notre Dame

Notre Dame ©2014 Niki Gulley 12" x 9" oil painting • SOLD Day 3, Paris Art Trek: Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop  with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams On the third day of our Paris Art Trek, we visited Notre-Dame Cathedral it all of its Gothic Splendor. Fortified by a delicious lunch of crepes, salads and quiches, the painters went back to replicate this view of the church's rose window across the Seine while the rest of our photographers and tourists visited Saninte-Chapelle, the Latin Quarter and St. Germaine. That night we gathered for you guessed it…more epicurean experiences! Beef Bourguignon, Strawberry cheesecake gelato, Kir Royals and profiteroles with chocolate sauce were just a few of the highlights. SUNNY SUNFLOWERS BY ARTIST PAT MEYER

SOLD 14 x 11 Oil On Linen www.PatMeyer-artist.com Usually I ask my students to write down what they want to achieve in their paintings before starting.  My goal for this painting was a sunny approach and feeling for the viewer.  The new collector that purchased this piece said exactly that. She stated, "It made me feel happy and sunny".  That was music to my soul to know that I captured that in the painting. Watch for this painting in Oct in a National Magazine publication and several more. Signature Artist of Texas, Oil Painters of America, Outdoor Painters Society

Day 2, Paris Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams, Painting in the Tuileries

"Peaceful Morning," Tuileries ©2014 Niki Gulley 9" x 12" oil painting Day 2, Paris Art Trek: Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop  with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams On the second day of our Paris Art Trek, half of our group visited the Louvres in the morning, and for any of my painters who had been to the museum before, we set up our easels across from this peaceful fountain in the Tuileries. It was a gorgeous day, and the light was soft and beautiful hitting the garden. We did a quick black and white value sketch to simplify the complexity of the scene, and then moved onto color. A perfect morning! After we finished, we met up with the rest of the group for a picnic in the park, and in the afternoon some of us visited the Musee d'Orsay and their amazing impressionist art collection. That night we gathered for another amazing French dinner! If you'd like more information or a brochure on one of our upcoming Plein Air Painting a...

Jimmy Longacre_subjective realist landscape paintings_TOWARDS MEXICO

This scene appeared to be essentially bleached of color.  When I run into such situations, and it happens more than you might expect, I permit myself to exaggerate the subtle harmony in the landscape.  I may look for one color that I will play-up as the dominant, and then base the rest of the harmony on it.  It may only be a hint of color, as in the mesquite grove in the mid-ground of this painting.  There was really only a warm gray mass there with barely a hint of orange to red discernible in it.  Okay, good!  Now, the game is that all the other colors must respond to that hue and chroma strength.  Again, I'll usually take the hint from the actual landscape, as to local color, but seek to bring it into balance with the chosen dominant color. Beachers

Beachers Galveston Island, Texas 8 x 8 Oil on Panel Randall Cogburn Click to Purchase on  eBay Auction Frame Example King of Frame: Arroyo Gold, floater. The light was a key focal point in this scene and having the kids running around was an added bonus. Even though this is an oil painting it does have the look of a watercolor painting. Sometimes I switch brushes to have a certain effect and a good used one fit this perfectly.

"Cain" 20x20, Oil on Canvas by Dawn Waters Baker

"Cain" 20x20, Oil on Canvas I've been working on this piece for several weeks. I wanted to depict the story of Cain through the emotional landscape. The storm rolling in over the green hills that are in contrast with the burnt land. The twisting tree, the symbol of Cain as he turns away. Palette: Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White, Yellow Ochre with hints of Cadmium Red Light and Nickel Titanium Yellow.

I couldn't get the sparrows to stay still on the feeder! I had to look them up to get an idea of what they really look like and I still didn't capture them, but was fun.  I love the crows that I got in Wyoming sitting on the fence. I have done a couple of paintings of them. and the bird at the Atlanta Zoo was so gorgeous! sketching is such fun.  If you want to join us for my Sketching workshop, Sept. 12-13, let me know. There's still room!
