Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! 2014 was a great year.  Last year at this time, we were in a tizzy due to farming, and Ken quitting, but it passed so fast, and it has worked out good, especially for him.  No more worries about what the weather was going to do, paying bills, etc.  All the stuff that goes along with farming.  Not only that, our entire family has been healthy all year, and we added a new member.  Our Grandson got married in June. I have been blessed with a building to teach in, and have had good participation in my classes! I also have a lot of great family and friends that support me and encourage me, and I can't imagine anything else I would even ask for! Health AND Friends! We are blessed. My prayer is that we will all have a special 2015...healthy and happy. This year... May 31,2015...Ken I will celebrate our 50th anniversary, and that I can hardly believe!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Barbara Jones Fine Art   Let's chase away the Winter Blues and start our classes again! Ok, maybe you don't get the winter blues. But I do about January and if I jump right into the New Year, I feel much better. Of course we all feel better when we paint. I'm starting with a figurative art demo at my home January 9, 2015 at 9:30 am. This is the photo I will be using for this demo painting. I will probably add a drape around the waist area to create some color and interest. After making a sketch of this photo, I will transfer the drawing to my canvas and possibly go ahead and tone the canvas before the demo class to save time. This demo will be all about skin color and how to achieve it. Class begins at 9:30 am - 12:30 pm at 1709 Clearbrook Lane, Corsicana, Texas. Cost $15 and snacks provided. You may RSVP via email mallie22@sbcglobal.net or call me at 903-875-9416 You don't need to bring any art supplies...

Painting at Oak Alley Plantation with Niki Gulley

"Rooted," Oak Alley Plantation  ©2014 Niki Gulley • 9" x 12" palette knife oil painting New Orleans Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams Day 4, Oak Alley Plantation On the final day of our New Orleans Art Trek, we drove out to Oak Alley Plantation and were awed by its impressive grounds and 300 year old oak trees. Enjoying the quiet after the busy bustle of New Orleans, we each set out to capture something different, from the beauty of these old gnarled trees to the formality of the mansion to the modest slave quarters. Everyone's painting turned out fantastic and we gathered at the end of the day to look at our progress each day and view the photographers slideshows from the trip. What a wonderful Art Trek!  *** If you're interested in joining us on one of upcoming Art Treks, please let us know.  Spaces are filling up quickly, so don't wait! Fall Along the Banks, New Contemporary Landscape Painting by Sheri Jones

Fall Along the Banks 11x14 oil on canvas panel When my friend, Jill Randall and I planned to go painting we weren't sure where. I wanted somewhere that was new and exciting.   We drove around until we drove past Jill's friends, Janice's house. She lives on the banks of the Brazo's River in Granbury.  It was new and exciting for me. The fall colors against the blue of the water really inspired me.  This is available for purchase.  $300.00 Sheri Jones   Sheri@sheriart.net  http://www.sheriart.net  http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com

Paintings of 2014 by Carolyn Hancock

The 2014 roller coaster is almost at the bottom of the hill, ready to exit. It's been busy, too busy at times. I did not take as much studio time as I would have liked, and it shows in the number of really good paintings from my easel. But I am very proud of the work that I've done as president of the Pastel Society of Southeast Texas . Great membership numbers and growth in programs and activities. 2015 shapes up even better. Here's my video to celebrate the year end and the good paintings that did escape my easel. Happy New Year, Success, Good Health, and Lots of Excellent Paintings. Roseate Spoonbill - Florida Bird Painting - Nancy Medina Art

Florida Spoonbill Painting by Nancy Medina 16X20 Oil on Linen Purchase Information Videos France, Italy and the US - Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter I've been wanting to paint a Spoonbill for some time, mainly because they are beautiful birds, and they are pink! Since I'm heading to Florida very soon to teach, it seemed a good time to unveil my Roseate fellow. Upon closer inspection, with his spoon shaped nose, perhaps he is does not cut the elegant silhouette of the Blue Heron, but I still find him very appealing, with his lemon yellow face paint and his scarlet feathers. Wouldn't it be kismet if I were to actually see one of these fellows during my visit? If so, you'll be the first to hear about it! Detail from Roseate Spoonbill

New North Light Book

I can't believe 2014 is almost gone.  It has been such a good year! All of our family is healthy and happy and we got a new Granddaughter-n-law this year.  We have been so blessed in every way. I have had a good 'art' year! We got a new building for me to hang my work in as well as teach and share my love of painting and creating.  It has been so awesome having my own place to go out and teach! I don't have to load everything up, etc.  My little Backyard Gallery and Studio has been such a blessing.  I did the 30 day challenge in January and September as well as 2 online sketchbook classes. Now to end the year, I have some news! Wow..a great year to end one and start another. I got word today saying my mixed-media art has been selected for publication in Incite 3: The Art of Storytelling, that is published by North Light Books. The painting that was selected is  'Wyoming Cowboy', a torn paper collage. So to go along with 'Story Telling...

The painting is bordered by 2" of white watercolor paper.   It is ready to be matted and framed or simply "floated" to show the deckle on all four sides. Painting in the Garden District with Niki Gulley

"Pretty in Pink," New Orleans  ©2014 Niki Gulley • 12" x 9" palette knife oil painting New Orleans Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams Day 3, The Garden District On our third day of the New Orleans workshop, we rode the trolley to the Garden District and set out to capture the beautiful architecture while the photographers went in search of the perfect shot. Several of us were attracted to this beautiful grand pink house, and in particular I loved the old oak tree framing it. That evening, we dined again on a delicious Cajun dinner at Brennan's and took in some local talent at the jazz clubs afterwards. To me, these days are interesting and you never really know what you might see. As I was painting along of course it was raining before, during, and after I packed up. Luckily I was able to get it down before it became wet enough the paint wouldn't stick, then it's just time to pack up or grab another canvas.

Windy December by Kay Wyne

Windy December 8" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel Landscape Plein Air As I post this today the wind is howling and makes me feel as I did the day I painted this small painting.  It was a cold and windy day at White Rock Lake.  As you can imagine, it was hard keeping all of my painting equipment together.  I started with a brush, but ended up painting with a palette knife.  I was painting with a Monday morning plein air group.  Outdoor situations make you paint fast and deliberate.  I probably need to get out of the studio and paint outdoors more in 2015.  This painting is for sale....contact Kay  if you have comments or questions.  Thanks for looking....Kay

Violet Sky Sunflowers and Going to the Birds - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina Art

Violet Sky Sunflower Solo by Nancy Medina 14X14 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Videos France, Italy and the US - Flower Painting Workshops My Web Site Follow Me on Facebook Sign Up for My Art Newsletter Violet Sky Sunflower Solo was one of a few new paintings progressing in Flower Mound Studio, including a rendition of one of my favorite birds, the Roseate Spoonbill. I love these birds because they are...pink! I'm still working on this little feathered fellow, right now he looks a bit like he's just survived a hurricane, so his plumes need combing and his legs need a shave, too, while we're at it! Today the hubby came home from work with a bug, so I've been nursing hubby, obeying the pugs, and painting. At least I'm getting my exercise, not to mention reacquainting myself with that room I rarely enter, the kitchen. There's a big white square thing with fire coming ou...
