"Lucky's Cafe" by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Lucky's Cafe," Dallas, Texas  ©  2017 Niki Gulley SOLD •  11" x 14" oil painting Just Sold!  Friends sit and gaze at the mass of beauty and indecision that is the menu. The fear of missing out on any number of delectable dishes makes it nearly impossible to chose. Their eyes waver between the menu in their hands and the massive chalk board that dominates the far wall. Mom's meatloaf? Good Luck Reuben? And who could pass up the Sleaziest, Cheesiest, Grilled Cheese in Town? But, then, it is found: Chicken Fried Steak, a delicious staple of home-style comfort food. Every once and a while, it's nice to share a little home-town spirit. Coming from Dallas, I thought it would be nice to capture a local favorite, Lucky's Cafe, on Oaklawn Ave. Even outside, you can feel the energy that emanates from within and cuts through the heavy blanket of night.  E-mail me at  Niki@NikiGulley.com  for more information about my contemporary impression...

"Kid's Perspective" Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

"Kid's Perspective" ©2017 Niki Gulley SOLD •  textured oil painting on canvas • 20" x 30" Just Sold!   In "Kid's Perspective" I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and heavens above. Choosing uplifting golds and soft shades of tangerine contrasted against a blue sky with gentle clouds drifting by, I've arranged the aspens in a circular pattern to give you a sense of laying on the ground, surrounded by the forest and to direct your eye to the focal point. Utilizing thick, curving paint strokes adds to that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery. To see more of my impressionist palette knife paintings, please visit  NikiGulley.com . Bixby Farm by artist Pat Meyer

11 x 14 oil on linen panel to purchase contact direct Pat@Meyer.net The sun was bright the season is getting ready to change.  You can feel fall starting to peek her head onto your neck as the wind blows.  Painting outside is such a great joy being in nature and experience living in the moment of that time and space. To be able to capture that in a painting brings great joy.  The reason I wanted to paint this scene is because of all the layers that it created. www.PatMeyer-artist.com Signature Member Artist of Texas, Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society

DESIGNING FOR WARM AND COOL COLOR

Avoiding the trap of trying to paint the scene as I saw it allows me to express what really captures my interest in a subject.  First of all knowing why I want to paint the subject is central to everything I'm going to do.  I recently read a quote that rings very true to me: Design is doing everything for the sake of the one thing.  Designing the big shapes and values is the key to self expression.  If I get those right, what colors I choose to paint them is up to me.  The main thing I try for, when it comes to color, is the arrangement of warm and cool temperatures rather than mixing accurate colors.  It not only harmonizes the colors, but it opens the door to atmosphere and depth.   MORNING ENCHANTMENT ©Jimmy Longacre 2017 12x24 oil on canvas panel Jimmy Longacre subjective realist landscape paintings MY WEBSITE MY BLOG: Paintbox & Easel GALLERY LINKS Fredericksburg Art Gallery Fredericksburg TX Capital Fine Art Gal...

"Fall Carnival" Palette Knife Aspen Tree Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

Fall Carnival ©2017 Niki Gulley 30" x 40" textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas Painted with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives so that this canvas is loaded with texture and bursting with color, flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze. I wanted this landscape to be filled with movement and vivacity, so I incorporated a lot of diagonal and curving shapes in the design to suggest that feeling. Contrasting short staccato strokes against blended passages with my palette knives, also increase that sense of motion. One zig zag passage of crimson foliage creates a focal point in the tangle of leaves and turnks while adding energy to the scene. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of walking through the woods on a beautiful fall day, letting your cares slip away and your spirit being invigorated. Fall Pansies by artist Pat Meyer

9 x 12 oil on linen contact artist to purchase Pat@Meyer.net Fall Pansies are always so fun to paint.  These bright yellow faces are painted with transparent orange and viridian in the shadow areas and then cad yellow deep to cad lemon to the brightest part of the flower.  The background was laid in after painting the pansies with a wash of transparent brown plus French ultra blue and then in areas picked up Alizarin to vary the back ground keeping areas transparent.  The main thing I wanted to achieve in this painting is to give you the feel of layers in the plant making the main flower to come forward. www.PatMeyer-artist.com Signature Member Artist of Texas, Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society

Autumn Aspens, New Contemporary Landscape Painting by Sheri Jones

Autumn Aspens 9x12 oil on canvas I created this while painting with the Outdoor Painters Society in Colorado. This was painted off Turkey Creek Road outside of Pagosa Springs. Queen For The Day..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This is the completed demo I began last week for the Brenham Arts League here in Texas. I possibly spent only 30 minutes on the actual demo as I had already done a longer one and time was short. This image is on white velour paper. The steps of this are below..  I like to work a lot of negative painting into my background first, and the flower/s evolve as the painting progresses. I did not pre draw to begin with, merely used 'VEILS' of pastel marks over the surface first to disturb the surface tension.  After this I referred to my photo of a flower and sketched a little over these marks to give me a 'road map' of a flower so to speak. I like movement in my works, and not sticking to a plan, just allowing the painting to tell me what it wants to do. Here are the steps. This image is a pastel on velour paper (unframed) 19.5" x 25.5"  $550 plus S/H Prints of this image are also available through Fine Art America: ...

"Oak Alley" Palette Knife Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"Oak Alley" ©2017 Niki Gulley SOLD  • 16" x 20" textured oil painting Just Sold!  I painted this colorful oak lined alleyway a couple of weeks ago on location at the Fort Worth Stock Yards. I was attracted to the contrast of light and shadows and the way the oaks lined up to lead you down this dappled path into the background Spanish archway, which was illuminated in glowing whites and yellows by the sun. The colors were duller than this and I wanted a warmer feeling to the scene since it was a chilly morning, so I enhanced the hues to create an uplifting backdrop full of color and energy. Utilizing thick paint and palette knife, I also created a lot of texture and movement with my strokes to add to the joyful feeling of painting on this beautiful morning. Tuscan Vineyard Palette Knife Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

SOLD  • 48" x 60" textured oil painting I was recently commissioned to paint this vineyard scene set against miles of rolling hills dotted with grapevines and olive trees. Working from some of my plein air sketches, photographs, and personal memories from our trips to the area, I created this large textured oil painting with palette knives and tons of paint. Full of color and movement, I arranged the planted grapevines to lead your eye back to the Tuscan villa and then to the beautiful countryside beyond. Neptune’s Court..Watermedia..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

NEPTUNE'S COURT began in a recent abstract workshop I took with Mary Ann Beckwith. Lots of paint flying everywhere, textures and creativity. I had just a big sheet of this Yupo (manufactured paper) covered in implied textures, very pretty, but now what? The paint always GLOWS on Yupo, and yes, this is mostly WATERCOLOR with some acrylic GESSO over parts, NO INK is used, although I bet some of you thought I had used INK.. Anyway.... I love a challenge. Pretty as my start was with patterns made by stamping objects or cloth into and over paint, I feel we as artists, should not rely on that alone. It's a trap.. and many artists deem a painting finished before they truly have done much of their own 'pulling together'. The challenge is making A PAINTING out of all of this lusciousness. For days now I have gone back and forth with this, breaking objects into the patterns I made, losing and diminishing the importance of my implied textures, to ...
