  "Autumn Hideaway"   ©2021 Niki Gulley 16" x 20" textured oil painting  After we finished teaching our Art Trek to Vermont, my husband and I stayed another few days to try to capture the gorgeous scenery on canvas and film. This morning, we ventured up to the majestic overlook by the Von Trapp property to capture the spectacular scenery. I loved how this cabin was perfectly tucked into the mountainside surrounded by vibrant fall foliage. The slightly overcast day made the colors pop even more! Day Lily Dance 16x12 oil on wood panel I painted this as a demo at my show with Cheryl Lee Jones at Lake View Inn in Granbury. This show hangs until November 15th. Stop by and check out my oil paintings and Cheryl's great watercolors.   This painting was inspired from the Master Gardens in Granbury. They will have their annual Free annual "Romancing the Butterfly" festival on Saturday, October 2nd from1:30-4:00. I will be there painting and enjoying the festivities. They are located at 1410 W. Pearl Street.   

     “Perspective Control II" ©2021 Niki Gulley 36” x 18" textured mixed media painting  on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges Enjoying the melodic tinkling of the aspen leaves rustling in the breeze, the trickling sounds of the babbling brook at our side, and the beauty of fall ablaze with color, I felt invigorated as I began painting this aspen forest. The setting was so peaceful and rejuvenating that I wanted to communicate that joyful feeling of discovery. Filling the canvas with energetic staccato strokes and bold colors, in addition to gently arching the tree trunks reaching towards the sky, add to that uplifting feeling. And then just a sliver of the trail cutting through the forest, suggests the excitement of the journey that is to come.   “Falling Rocks” ©2021 Niki Gulley 20" x 24” textured oil painting on wrap around canvas This painting is inspired from my first trip to Colorado. I loved the majestic mountains, the meandering creeks and rushing rivers, the lush terrain and the quaking aspen trees. The ride through the mountains was thrilling, as we straddled cliff sides, our tires gripped the road through spine-tingling hairpin turns, we raced through cavernous tunnels carved through the dense rock, and jagged mountains hugged us like there was no tomorrow. And, as if the journey wasn't exciting enough, we were reminded of the  adventure that lay ahead with a new falling rocks sign every few bends!   Standing among the trees, watching the light find it's way through the branches, I was mesmerized by the view. I was surrounded by limbs that appeared to hold each other up. The large tree in front of me was the star but the neighboring trees played a part of the story, they were family and "Woven Together". No matter if we share DNA or not when we stand together and weather storms our lives are like woven fabric and provide shelter.       “Azure Waves" ©2021 Niki Gulley 12" x 24" textured mixed media painting on canvas On our drive through Ennis this spring, the bluebonnets were so full and thick along Sugar Bush ridge. So, I set up my easel to capture this beautiful, peaceful view. I loved how the undulating rows of the clouds, treetops along the hills and wildflowers in the foreground all repeated similar shapes and wave-like patterns adding to the feeling of symmetry and serenity.  I hope you, too, can feel the joy and glory of springtime in Texas!       "Moving Expectations III" ©2021 Niki Gulley 20" x 30" Textured Mixed Media on Canvas As my garden kept evolving this spring, I was treated every day to a new blossoming surprise! After my irises were complete, I was greeted by the most gorgeous roses I've seen since I planted them 5 years ago. So, of course I had to go out and capture those beauties before they disappeared.   Wanting to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light, I painted  the blooms large to add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Just after sunrise, big, billowy clouds drift by on the horizon and are illuminated with color from the rising sun. And, it worked on me, so I hope it does the same for you. I felt so much happier after painting this larger than life bluebonnet and Indian Paintbrush scene. Working with palette knife and a lot of texture, reveling in the process of flinging and pouring paint to create a joyful, kinetic kaleidoscope, and playing with a cheerful palette of reds, yellows and blues, I feel like this one really lifts one’s spirits and has a touch of whimsy to it.
