Tractor Shed - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Tractor Shed 10x8 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara t seems all this week I've been painting water and trees in one form or another. I was ready for a change today. Determined to find some sort of structure to paint today, I went to several different locations searching for a subject that I could paint. At the end of my search was Cedar Hill State Park where I found this building. Actually, I had picked a different building to paint. I even blocked it in before deciding that I wasn't happy with neither the my view of the subject nor my composition, so I wiped it off my canvas. It was then that I noticed this little building right next to me with an old tractor in it. I was drawn to the shadows and the way that just the front of the tractor caught the afternoon light. With a slight turn of my easel and turning my canvas vertically, I was off and painting. My brushed danced across the canvas and mixed colors as if I wasn't even there. I love days like...

Sharon Hodges: Chama River, 20 x 16

Thick paint, this may not dry til next year....but I like where this is going....it just feels right. It began from an old photo taken at the Chama River in New Mexico. The topography there is so wonderful...it is no wonder so many artists live and work in that area of New Mexico. I want to make more paintings in this genre...I just like the way the paint feels. Eye Catcher by Sheri Jones

Eye Catcher by Sheri Jones 11 x 14 oil on canvas panel This was inspired from a trip to Bellingrath Gardens in Alamaba a few years ago. We spent a peaceful afternoon chasing butterflies. I wish someone could tell me what the beautiful flower is. I've tried looking up it up on the inet with no luck. This painting is available for purchase. $150.00 Sheri@sheriart.net sheriart.net sheriart.blogspot.com

KATIE'S FLOWERS by Linda Popple

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord Click HERE to view my blog. This will be the last of the flower paintings for a while. These beauties are past their prime. Luckily more flowers are available when I am ready to paint them again. By the way, Katie is my graddaughter. The first of nine to be born 13 years ago. She gave me the vase and the flowers remind me of her sunny personality! On another note - I am sure you heard that Tony Curtis passed away. He was in one of my all time favorite movies, Some Like It Hot with Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. Even thinking about it will bring a smile! Thanks to YouTube I can share with you a clip from that movie. Click HERE and ENJOY!

Emerging Color

Emerging Color by Emily Leland Emerging Color Oil on canvas on board 10X12 Tivydale Road is a favorite road I love to take outside of Fredericksburg. On one side of the road, there is a drop off to a valley with ridges behind it . This is a long road to the entrance to this 100 acre ranch. Color is beginning to emerge, the grasses have tall color on them. It was a cool morning and beautiful!

You Want To Pin The Tail On What?

I LOVE donkeys, those soft eyes always get me, and this one was no exception. He was very inquisitive and followed me and my camera around all the time, while I was trying to get shots of the other donkeys in the paddock. He won out though, I got a lot more of him as a result. Lady in the Orange Hat

Sun Hat in the Loggia Study This hatted femme sat on a porch on a near perfect day, sun spilling around her from the arbor above. It was a “Room with a View” 2010, fields honey colored, the coolness of a loggia. The warm and cool captured in the warm of her sunlit hat and the grey that washed everything else. We begin to ask the eternal why?

Pappy Elkins Park - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Pappy Elkins Park 8x16 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara I just love the name of this park. It's not far from our house, which is good since things got to be pretty crazy today and I only had a few hours of daylight to paint in. I had all of the best intentions to get out first thing this morning and get to painting. My plan was to drive my wife to work since she still has problems driving with her cast and then go paint. As soon as I dropped her off, our daycare called and said our daughter looked like she had pink eye. I turned around to get her and take her to the doctor. Luckily, she doesn't have pink eye, but she did scratch her eye, which is why it was tearing and red. By the time I got her back to day care it was just about time to go pick my wife up from work. After getting her back home, I was able to go paint finally! To read more about this painting please visit my blog. http://georgedechiara.com/blog Visit my web sit...

KATIE'S VASE WITH FLOWERS by Linda Popple

8x6 Oil on Canvas Panel Click HERE to visit my blog. I wanted to try a different support and found a canvas panel from Raymar in my stacks of panels. It defintely feels different and it took quite a while to become accustomed to a little more texture than the smooth gessobord I normally use. At this point I still prefer the gessobord, but I am going to paint once in a while on the canvas panel as it does bring a distinct texture to the painting. I ordered some panels for Carol Marine's workshop I will be attending next month (can't wait!) so I will have some here to play with when I feel like it. They will be used as well as the gessobords from Ampersand I will bring. What are your favorite supports? Does the size of the painting determine the type of support you use?

Reflections in Time oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Reflections in Time” ©2010 Niki Gulley Oil on canvas • 24” x 36” This painting is inspired by one of my favorite spots just ten minutes from our home in Dallas. It was a perfect autumn day – about 70° with a slight breeze and the peaking autumn colors were more vibrant than usual. With such a gentle wind, the vivid foliage and gorgeous fluffy clouds were reflected fairly clearly in the water and yet at the same time, I chose to create fluid moving strokes to suggest the peaceful energy in that moment. To see this painting in person, visit my booth at the Cottonwood Art Festival in Richardson, TX this weekend, CottonwoodArtFestival.com. Or, e-mail me at Niki@NikiGulley.com for more information. Waiting for a Bite - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Waiting for a Bite 8x10 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Lake Arlington has a few piers to fish off of and a pretty amount of shore line that's easy to access.  The water is nice and people speed by on boats and jet skis all day long.  There are a few spots that I think would make good paintings so it was hard to choose what to paint. Then I spotted this fisherman at the end of one of the piers and knew that's what I wanted to paint today. I set up on the shore and got to painting quickly since I didn't know how long he would be there or how much he would move. Luckily, the fishing was slow, so he stayed pretty still for about 20 minutes, which was just enough time to get a good block in before he packed up his stuff and left. After he was gone, I worked on the rest of the painting by finishing off the water and the background. When I stepped back to check my work, I wasn't happy with the head I had painted.  It just didn't look right, so I...

Oakland Lake - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Oakland Lake 5x7 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Today's painting was a fast one. I only had about an hour to paint this before I had to rush off to pick up my daughter at day care. This little park is only about 15 minutes from our house, but this was the first time I had gone there. It has a small lake, which is what I painted today, and lots of open ground. I want to go back as the fall color starts to change and maybe try a different view. I'm not sure why, but I had trouble with glare today. I tried painting this while sitting on a park bench, but the reflection on the canvas was terrible. I finally went back to standing. For me, it just works better if I stand. I feel I have more energy in my work when I'm standing and I can step back freely and check my progress.  To read more about this painting please visit my blog. http://georgedechiara.com/blog Visit my web site to see more of my work. http://georgedechiara.com...

Dallas skyline pastel by Niki Gulley

“Crimson Sky” ©2010 Niki Gulley Pastel 25” x 19” At long last our summer journeys are coming to an end and we are headed back to Dallas. While I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the mid-west, the east coast and Europe, there’s nothing quite like home. I look forward to riding my bike again around White Rock Lake, enjoying the peacefulness of the water and greenery while watching families reveling in the early days of fall. Then, after watching a beautiful sunset over the lake with the Dallas skyline silhouetted, turning back and heading home. If interested in purchasing “Crimson Sky,” e-mail me at Niki@NikiGulley.com . Sharon Hodges: Barcelona Ava, 24x24, (sold)

Friend Julie and family enjoyed a fabulous summer vacation in Barcelona, Spain. They were guests of a family and stayed on their estate outside the city. Evidentally, they were royally entertained and wanted to give the host & hostess a special gift. Julie sent me a photograph of the hostess, Ava, and her little dog, while they were resting on the veranda hammock. She asked me to paint the scene, and this is the result. So, this is Julie's thank-you gift to Ava and her husband! So much better than flowers or wine, yes???!!! To see more of my work, please visit my blog .

Granbury Sunrise by Sheri Jones

Granbury Sunrise by Sheri Jones 10 x 8 oil on canvas I painted this on location Saturday morning at the break of dawn. A storm was brewing and the clouds were moving fast. It rained for hours and I was so happy we started early and avoided getting wet! This painting is available for purchase. $100.00 Sheri@sheriart.net sheriart.net sheriart.blogspot.com

WATERMELON by Linda Popple

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord Click HERE to visit my blog. I have begun a continuing education class for still life painting at Texas Christian University on Thursday nights. It's wonderful having fellow artists to visit with and share our paintings. Yesterday our instructor, Carol Ivey, brought a big watermelon into class and cut it into several pieces. Each artist took an easel and took a spot around a huge table with watermelon everywhere. This was my perspective. I had a blast!

"Morning Shave"..Western, Chuckwagon Series I, watercolor

It's been my privilege to attend a unique competition in the Western culture lately...Chuckwagon cookouts. One of my students is a Grand Champion in this area. I visited his wagon last Saturday & came up with some very interesting photos. This set-up is one of the aspects of judging his wagon outfit. The menu: Southern fried steak, fried potatoes with onions & jalapeno, biscuits, peach cobbler, all cooked on an open fire in cast iron cookware. Period clothing is also important, as well as camp site layout for the wagon & the equipment. I chose to paint this in watercolor to reflect the vibrant colors of the wagon. Oh, for the "good ol' days"... 4 x 6" ..framed...$ 50...if interested, please contact me @ http://www.vonniekohn.com/ Thank you for stopping by!

Blue Sky Aspens by Kay Wyne

Blue Sky Aspens 10" x 20" Oil on Canvas Palette Knife Painting The paint was applied with a palette knife on this canvas, giving the surface alot of texture. This is one of those contemporary oil paintings that I feel like I can truely say I am a colorist. I would say that I gave this painting color importance, achieving a special effect with color. Lots of color, many shades. It will take a long time to dry. I plan to deliver this painting to The Dutch Art Gallery ....Pam at Dutch Art has a gold frame waiting for this canvas. I can't wait to see it all framed up and hanging. Thanks for viewing this blog, and have an artful day! Please contact me if you are interested in this painting or any of my other pieces. kay@kwyne.com or 214-532-0325

Iao Stream

The Iao (pronounced 'ee-ow')Valley is the most heavenly place I used to frequent when I lived on Maui for 12 years. Heartsong Geraniums by Nancy Medina

Heartsong Geraniums by Nancy Medina 20X24 Oil on Canvas Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Heartsong Geraniums has been in the works for over a year. I started with geraniums in an orange pot and then decided on a radical change and painted sunflowers over them. Today as I stared at this canvas that I've battled for months, it occurred to me the blue curtains truly needed the red flowers. So I mopped over the whole mass with a lovely brown mud and pulled out some red geraniums again. I do think that a painting that arrives in layers is always more interesting in the end. Maybe the eye can see microns of color beneath the surface, more than we give our vision credit for? Take a peek at my blog to see the flowers that inspired Heartsong.

Fall Equinox - Thaw Malin iii

"Fall Equinox", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel. I had tried to capture the moon on my canvas the day before, but it became very overcast by sunset. Tonight was gorgeous and worth the wait. The combination of clouds turning orange and the moon just popping through the horizon darkness made it even more enchanting. Even the mosquitoes paused in their work to equally enjoy the view... If you'd like to purchase, please click Go to my Auction, bidding starts at $100.00 US. You First!

Ever had a bad day? I was at a Texas ranch recently to draw some plein air studies for a studio painting with a Western theme. This young longhorn steer was not too impressed with visitors. He eyed me with suspicion as if to say, "you first." Note the "swishing" tail...if the ears are laid back, it's time to RUN. Fortunately, I was out of there before that happened. 8 x 10, Graphite drawing, double mat (gray w/ red liner), barnwood frame...$ 100 inc. frame. If interested, please contact me at http://www.vonniekohn.com/ . Thank you for looking!

Whisper of Fall - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Whisper of Fall 5x7 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara I went to a little park just down the road from where my wife works with a little lake. It was the first time I had been there, so after scouting out the place for a few minutes, I settled on this view of the lake and the trees. I like how a few of the leaves are starting to change color, just hinting at fall!  I had some trouble with the computer I usually use to process the images of my images, so hopefully this one looks okay. I had to use a different monitor then I'm use to and different software to color correct it. I hope to can get my other computer running properly before too long.
