SPRING PANSIES BY STILL LIFE ARTIST PAT MEYER

11 x 14 Original Oil on Linen Panel contact artist to purchase Pat@Meyer.net The 60 degree weather has made my pansies in the yard so happy.  Their little smiling faces are standing tall and waiting on Spring to arrive.  When looking over the sea of pansy faces they needed to come into the studio to have their portrait painted.  Adding my favorite studio friends of gardenia's a little twist of lemon and next thing you know a delightful painting arrived.  May you have a smile on your face waiting on Spring and May you find your easel friendly. Dawn Blossoms and a New Container Garden Painting by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Detail: Dawn Blossoms Container Garden by Nancy Medina 36X48 Nancy Medina Web Site Dawn Blossoms is a new container garden under construction in Flower Mound Studio tonight , as the pug assistants provide supportive snores from their pillows. They're absolutely exhausted from all the excitement today. The first exciting turn of events involved watching their mom jump up and down when she learned two of her paintings were accepted by the Dallas Arboretum Garden Gallery show . The second exciting event was the discovery that foster pug Hannah had come down with the rare condition called "Pecan Toe". It seemed the empty husk of a pecan had wrapped itself around one of her little pink toes. Fortunately, it was removed without any discomfort whatsoever, except for a very small bruise to her pride. I reassured Hannah we would never speak of this embarrassing incident again most especially in mixed company (I'm typing, not speaking, so technically I haven't exactly broke...

The show dates are closing in very quickly and will be March 17 & 18 at The YO Ranch Resort Hotel and Conference Center. Inspiration for this painting came from a spring outing to Ennis, Texas. Sails of a Different Kind

Sails at Luxembourg Gardens 16x20 watercolor on paper stretched on canvas Right now I am working on a cafe series.  What I am noticing is that I keep picking scenes with umbrellas or awnings present.  I saw this photo I had taken when looking for more cafe scenes.  I couldn't resist the colors of the sails and their shadows in the bright, hot summer month of August.  It was so hot that nobody had the energy to sail a boat so they all just sat on the cart in the sun. Colorful Clouds by Kay Wyne

Colorful Clouds 36" x 18" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Original Palette Knife Painting on Heavy Duty Canvas This medium-size canvas will look great in a room with a long and narrow vertical space. The deep vibrant colors are bouncing around....you can't tell where the clouds start and the landscape ends. The trees and leaves have thick strokes of paint...giving it a lot of texture. Please contact me if you are interested in one of my contemporary aspen paintings. Thanks for viewing this blog. Kay at kay@kwyne.com or 214-532-0325.

"Sun Drenched" textured sunflower oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Sun Drenched" ©2012 Niki Gulley 30" x 48" textured oil on canvas Inspired by our trip to Provence last summer, I was awestruck by these massive fields of sunflowers blooming. Seeing this brilliant carpet of gold, with its sea of faces smiling towards the sun, just made me feel happy and I wanted you to experience that joy, too. In person "Sun Drenched" practically leaps off the canvas with its vibrant yellow petals and extremely thick three-dimensional oil paint. Stargazer Duo by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Stargazer Duo by Nancy Medina 10X10 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Stargazer Duo is the newest painting in the studio, as I start work on a couple of large paintings, including three commissions and a new container garden. When it rains it pours! I wanted to share with you a few more of my favorite images from the chilly visit to the Dallas Arboretum last week - in one photo is a tulip, unfurled, on my art blog today. I am always drawn to these flowers in their last bit of glory, their last gasp, so to speak - when all their inner beauty is revealed!

Daily Paintworks Challenge ~ Paint It Before You Eat It ~ Small Oil Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Nancy Standlee

The Daily Paintworks Challenge Paint It Before You Eat It Oil 6 x 8 on canvas panel I have an online gallery at Daily Paintworks and someone is always offering a challenge to paint. This challenge was presented by Carol Marine before Valentine's Day and you could paint from her photo or provide something of your own. I decided to paint from her photo and the only downside I didn't get to eat the goodies after I finished painting it this afternoon and gosh, darn, those little pleated papers were hard to paint. Many of the posted challenges were so much better than mine but that's the fun to see the other painters interpretation and I probably would have never chosen anything with a little frilly paper to start with. Want to give your art journey a stretch? Come try a challenge with us and you don't have to be a member to join in a challenge and there are no deadlines...so now, will you submit to the challenge? Just play fair and paint it after the challe...

Tulip Reflections by Kay Wyne

Tulip Reflections Original Oil on Linen Gallery Wrap 24" x 18" Palette Knife Painting This painting has large chunks of color on the linen. I blocked in the paint with my palette knife, giving the tulips a very distorted look. The light was bright at the Arboretum when I took a photograph of a beautiful field of tulips. I zoned in on the colors and shapes, painting only what I saw....not what I thought I saw. Thanks for looking at this blog....have a great day. Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com.

"Blue Tomorrow" ©2012 Niki Gulley 36" x 48" textured oil on canvas Just Finished! Lily Love Stargazer by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Lily Love Stargazers by Nancy Medina 12X12 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Lily Love Stargazer is a new painting in the studio. I spent a bit of time at the Dallas Arboretum a few days ago, and even though the wind was chilly coming off of White Rock Lake, the flowers were in bloom! I've shared a few photos on my art blog for you . You may want to put on a hat and a nice warm scarf for this stroll. The really good photographers were out in force with their zoom lenses and fancy umbrellas, before the park filled up, and while the light was perfect. I'm just an amateur, but I've found that by shooting about 600 photos, I can usually take home three or four good ones.

Sand Dunes by Sheri Jones

Sand Dunes 8x10 oil on canvas I painted this today at Pecan Plantation in Granbury.  My friend Joyce Thomas lives in this rural neighborhood.  The Brazo river winds through the area and this was at one of the parks on the banks of the river.  We enjoyed an afternoon with temperatures in the mid sixties.   This is available for purchase. $200.00 Sheri@sheriart.net www.sheriart.net www.sheriart.blogspot.com

Morning Rain by Texas Contemporary Abstract Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Morning Rain 24"x30"x1.5" Acrylic on canvas Sold Obviously the title of this painting describes the kind of day it was when this painting was created.  Choosing the right title for a piece of art is almost as difficult as choosing the name of a child.  I find that there are times when it will take me longer to come up with a good title than it does to paint the actual painting.  But, calling it "Untitled" just doesn't seem right.  Especially with an abstract painting, when the subject is not obvious, a title helps guide the viewer to the artist's intent in creating the work in the first place. Just wondering how my artist friend come up with good titles for their paintings.  Your comments are certainly appreciated. To see more of my original abstract paintings, please visit my website . Wedding Flowers by Sheri Jones

Wedding Flowers  14x11 oil on canvas My co-worker, Dee brought this beautiful bouquet into work after her daughter's wedding.  I  set them in front of the window to take pictures.  The strong sunlight cast a nice shadow.  She was excited to hear I wanted to paint them and was interested in buying it.  This is going provide a nice memory for her and her daughter.  This painting is sold. Canis Lupus by Melissa Doron

It's funny how some things influence paintings.  I was listening to the song Hungry Like the Wolf and this is what flew out of my hand.  I call this piece "Canis Lupis".  For details on this painting please email me at Artistdoron@gmail.com .

Win Under The Twin Spires by Melissa Doron

This is my latest in equestrian series called "Win Under The Twin Spires".  We are getting close to race season at Churchhill Downs...which was my inspiration for this painting.  You can see the horse is giving it all he's got to pass the finish line before the others. The idea was the background whizzing by in the neutral black, white and greys and all the colors focused on the horse and jockey. They are moving so fast that the only things really visible are the twin spires of Churchhill Downs and the moon and stars which I include in all my outdoor paintings for my family. I hope you enjoy "win Under the Twin Spires". For information, email me at artistdoron@gmail.com .

Keeping Watch - Original Abstract Mixed-media Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Keeping Watch 10"x10"x1.5" Mixed media on canvas Purchase Information I love building up texture in my work.  In this particular piece, I "recycled" an old painting by adding collage and 3-dimensional plaster pieces that I cast with Hydrostone.  Once everything was securely glued in place with gel medium, I gessoed the entire canvas and started painting, stenciling, etc...anything to create an interesting surface. Atlantic Drive - Thaw Malin iii

"Atlantic Drive", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel. Locating this bridge over the Herring Creek, I found the best vantage point and began work. It was a cheery place to paint. A breeze crept in at dusk and the day ended on a raw note. I was cold to the bone even though I had on my winter jacket and hood. I turned the heat way up as I drove back toward town... If you'd like to purchase, please click Go to my Auction, bidding starts at $100.00 US. Subscribe to my "New Paintings" mailing list. Each day that I create a new painting it will be sent to your email box. Other works found at Thaw Malin Art

Textured Bluebonnet Painting by Niki Gulley, "Blue Horizon"

"Blue Horizon" ©2012 Niki Gulley SOLD   30" x 48" textured oil on canvas SOLD - I love the rolling hills of the Texas hill country and when the bluebonnets are prolific, it feels like a carpet of blue stretches for miles. I painted this bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush scene with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve extreme texture.  The resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and energy. I've painted the scene around the edges of the canvas on 1 and 1/2" deep stretcher bars so that the paintings can be hung without a frame for a unique sculptural effect. Primavera Overture - Original Abstract Painting by Texas Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Primavera Overture 30"x30"x1.5" Acrylic on Canvas Purchase information We've had an unusually warm winter this year here in Central Texas and spring feels like it's about to make its debut.  As I look out my studio window and see the grasses starting to come up, along with a lot of weeds, I can't help thinking that it's time to get the garden going again.  I just hope we don't have a repeat of the record breaking heat and drought of last summer.  Hopefully all the rain we've had this winter will bring a beautiful crop of Texas wildflowers. Otherworld - Dallas Arboretum Koi Pond by Nancy Medina

Otherworld - Dallas Arboretum Koi Pond by Nancy Medina Detail 30X24 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Otherworld is based on the koi ponds of the Dallas Arboretum, where the fish are guarded like gold by the staff and protected from hungry marauders by land or air. I really felt like breaking away from the norm with this painting, and wanted to do something much looser and more free - a nod back to the old watercolor days, in more ways than one. Otherworld, as pictured here, is a vertical detail of the original painting, which you can see in its entirety on my Web site.

MARGO II by Carol Peterson

MARGO II by Carol Peterson ( carolpeterson@suddenlink.net ) 22" x 15" watercolor $800 This is the second painting I did from a profile view of Margo when she posed for our Friday Life Drawing group.  I did more stamping in this painting, changed the background, used more turquoise, lifted light with stencils, and generally painted the image with more darks.  I think I prefer this painting somewhat to the first one.

MARGO by Carol Peterson

MARGO by Carol Peterson watercolor $800 Margo was a model in my Friday Like Drawing group.  She had beautiful golden skin, large eyes, expressive eyes and mouth, and could hold a pose nicely.  I used masking, stamps, an acrylic underpainting and lifting to get the results that I wanted.  I drew off two paintings and have completed both.  I wanted to paint them in two different styles but I liked this one so much that the other painting is very similar.  I have other good poses and may do a third painting with a different pose.

The Martyrdom of St. Dunkin'

The Martyrdom of St. Dunkin' 16" x 8" - oil on canvas This was a tough painting to do. Not the actual painting part, but staring at that doughnut! Who would have thought that one little cinnamon doughnut would make my whole studio smell like a bakery??? I kept wanting to rip it off the string and gobble it up!!! The set up in my shadowbox was looking quite boring until I added the napkin. Once I'd hit upon the title, picking the color of the napkin was a slam dunk. Ooooh. Bad pun, sorry. A gallery owner told me about a collector looking for artwork with coffee related themes. I suppose I could have painted a quick cuppa coffee, but you know me. "If it's easy, anybody could do it." So I had to think for a while to come up with something really unique. There's even some symbolism included here, like the red for the martyr and the 13 coils of "rope" in the hangman's noose. So, what do you think? Did I succeed in creating somethin...

Starling Purple and Blue Irises by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Starling Purple and Blue Irises by Nancy Medina 16X20 Oil on Linen Board Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Starling Purple and Blue Irises is based on the jewel tones and purple irises of Argyle Acres Iris Garden in Argyle, Texas. The mild winter has been teasing my irises into thinking it is spring. While I'm hoping for a few early blossoms, I remember what Joe and Donna Spears, owners of Argyle Acres, said last year - it's not good for the irises to bloom too early. I'll just have to be patient!

Mountain Stream in Colorado by Martie Rains

Mountain Stream 9x12 oil on canvas www.martierains.com martierains@sbcglobal.net " Mountain Stream ," featured in previous blogs, was chosen for the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit in November, 2011 and is one of my favorites. This painting brings back wonderfull memories of the unparalleled magnificence of the Colorado Rocky Mountains with colors so clear and bright they look almost artificial. Since I shot this scene while riding the Durango-Silverton train, I had to try to capture its beauty from a photo when I returned home. You may purchase this painting on my website by clicking here .

Last day for Two Woman Show, "Opposites Attract," at Jaycee Center for the Arts

"Fire and Gold" ©2012 Niki Gulley oil on canvas • 36" x 48" I love the first signs of fall – the crisp feel in the air, the crunching of leaves underfoot, the beautiful autumn colors, and being totally immersed in nature in the middle of a forest without a care in the world. In Fire and Gold I wanted to recreate that joyful feeling, choosing warm reds and yellows of autumn and using energetic strokes with my paint to heighten that mood. Building up thin transparent layers of oil paint also add to a certain glow and magic in the final piece. To see "Fire and Gold" in person, stop by the Jaycee Center for the Arts in Irving, TX for this two woman show featuring the paintings of Niki Gulley and Elizabeth Padgett.
