"Fair Will Be Here" , this is a Medium painting, 16" x 20", oil on canvas This painting is a 16" x 20" oil on canvas which I began in August. I had to do a u-turn when I drove by this. I love to paint hay bales out in the fields, but to have not only a tractor, but a red tractor in the field was just way too much for me!!! This was the scene 3 days prior to the set up of the Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Society Fair. In a "normal summer" this hay would have been cut and baled in July and this field only mowed at this time. Weather patterns don't seem to be normal anymore... Fabulous niece Tara recently sent a link of interest...seems that our military men and women often encounter abandoned, starving, or otherwise mistreated animals while serving their missions abroad. Understandably, the military does not encourage the bonds that inevitably develop and does not allow transport of these companion animals on military equipment. That said, the military personnel often develop deep, loving bonds with these dogs and cats, and do not want to leave them behind when their tours are over. International transportation of animals is a costly and paperwork laden endeavor, beyond the means of most of us; however, the SPCA International has set up a program to assist our troops in bringing their animals home to the USA. If interested, take a look at their site and click on the "Operation Baghdad Pups" button. Anyway the stories on that site inspired this painting. When sold, 50% of the proceeds will be donated in the buyer's name to this project. ...

This is my first triptych that I have painted and I really enjoyed working on it. Even though there are three canvases to work on, it all needed to flow together as one piece of art. It is a commission piece that I painted for a client who had a couple of guidelines. First, it had to be a horizontal piece, only 24 inches high. Could be any length because the designated wall was very large. Secondly, my color scheme was limited, but not limited. (I guess that I mean I was limited, but still had great colors to work with. Kind of like looking at the glass of water…is it half full or half empty?) My client asked that I use the following colors: Blue, just not purpley blue. Metallic silver, and dash of orange would be fun. No bright blues. No yellow. No sage green. No pink. Taupe, silver, neutrals, black, turquoise, dash of purple, little bit of red, browns, whites, beiges would all be good to use. So, with those guidelines, I set out to paint this triptych. I used my favorite medium, oil ...

© Vernita Bridges-Hoyt Sam's Room The Law Office of Sam Houston, Texas Hero Huntsville, Texas This painting depicts the historical log cabin interior of the law office of Sam Houston located alongside his house in Huntsville, Texas. Painted from a photo taken through the door on the south side, the painting includes a desk, two chairs, law books, and the interior logs and window on the north side of the cabin. A gun powder horn hangs from the chair. History has it that Houston, also known as The Raven, would not allow any woman to enter the law cabin, not his wife nor any female servant. The dog trot residence and the law cabin are on the historical register along with the Steamboat House where Sam Houston died. "Jessie" 15" x 22" Watercolor, acrylic, charcoal on paper In October I took a 3 day figure workshop with Daily Painter, Liz Hill , in Houston. Each morning we had a different model to draw and then we'd paint in the afternoon after the model went home. The models allowed photos to be taken. I've had three more workshops since then and haven't been able to paint and use anything I learned at the figure workshop. So Saturday and Sunday right before the Western Federation deadline, I finally had an opportunity to paint "Jessie" from one of my photographs. Liz draws from live models about three times a week but at this stage in my figure painting I need a photograph. I really enjoy mixing up the media and combining it with the charcoal. I want to pursue this way of working and schedule another Houston trip for the next Liz Hill workshop. Starlight Stargazers by Nancy Medina 12X16 Oil on Linen Board Available on Daily Painters Gallery Starlight Stargazers is a painting of one of my favorite flowers, Stargazer Lilies, also one of the most beautifully fragrant lilies. I love their leopard print and their brazen way of wearing pink and orange together and still looking smashing at parties. These lilies are growing from an earthen pot I found in historic Fredericksburg, Texas, while delivering art to the gallery there recently.
