On my easel, unfinished West of Denver, Estes Park

This is the latest incarnation of this painting. I used a "source" photograph from a trip I took to Denver last year. I think it is or is near Estes Park. I am, for the most part, pleased with the foreground, but I know I need to do some work on the sky/mountain. I used a palette knife for the most part, but could not get the detail I wanted in the foreground without a brush. I felt that there was a disconnect between the foreground and background, so I made the sky purple, I am not at all sure about this. I also wanted a light orange "glow" around the top of the mountain and I am not happy with what I have. After coming home and viewing this piece, I feel, at the very least, I need to make the purple darker on the right.....if I decide to keep the purple. Comments welcome.

The Old Texaco - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

The Old Texaco 8x10 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara This week I'm participating in the Waxahachie Plein Air Event with 60 other artists. Starting last Saturday with the Quick Draw event, we have all been busy painting around town. I did participate in the quick draw on Saturday, but in the rush to get my painting done, I forgot to get a photograph of it.  I'm planning on doing another blog post about the quick draw, so for now I'll just leave it at that and talk a bit about this painting. I spent some time Sunday afternoon driving around Waxahachie looking for places to paint. I found a few good-looking spots at Lake Waxahachie, but with the holiday crowds I decided to move on. Heading back into town, I drove up and down some of the main streets running through the downtown area. Then, on a whim, I thought, why not try this side road and see where it goes. Boy, am I glad I did! I couldn't believe this neat old building just sitting there next ...

FLOWERS BETWEEN FRIENDS BY PAT MEYER

9 X 12 ORIGINAL OIL ON LINEN PANEL CONTACT ARTIST TO PURCHASE PAT@MEYER.NET It is so great to have friends that share their flowers with you.  This collection of flowers came from several different flower gardens and it was so sweet that each friend was so giving to create this arrangement.  There was so much sweet smell from the group that I added the tart of the lemon just to balance things out.  May you have friends that share flowers with you and may you find your easel friendly. Pay Pal Accepted.

Hearts of Gold Zinnias and Delphiniums by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Hearts of Gold Zinnias & Delphiniums by Nancy Medina 20X20 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Shop in My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Hearts of Gold Zinnias and Delphiniums was inspired by the wildflowers along the trails of Flower Mound, Texas. My husband and I have been taking 5 mile walks over the holiday weekend in the mornings, and the weather has been perfect. We're getting these walks in before the summer heat lands upon Dallas with both feet! When we moved to Flower Mound from Laguna Hills, California, 10 years ago this month, we decided Flower Mound was the closest thing to Orange County, CA, we could find, with 52 miles of bike paths, sanctuary neighborhoods, and a Smart Growth Plan that banned industry from taking down any mature trees in development projects. We still love Flower Mound, and most of all I love being close to my mom and my family back here in Texas. To see Hearts of Gold in the studio, visit my art blog. I hope you have...

Place of Peace

Place of Peace 8 x 10 oil on canvas     This is a painting that I did today at the Paint Historic Waxahachie Paintout. This is a beautiful old cemetery. It is such a peaceful and quiet place as well as a testament to the faith of those who are departed and those they left behind.     To see more of my work, please visit my blog at douglasbclark.blogspot.com or my website at douglasbclark.com.

Kay's Garden by Sheri Jones

Kay's Garden by Sheri Jones 8x10 oil on canvas I painted this during the Paint Historic Waxahachie event. It was a colorful spot that caught my eye. Kay's Mom was the actual gardener and had quite an eclectic collection of garden art and beautiful flowers. Kay was sweet and brought me ice tea. The town has been very gracious and welcoming. This painting will be on displayed at the Ellis County Art Association and Museum, 501 W. Main, Waxahachie, Texas. All the artwork created during the week will be moved over to Chatauqua Auditorium, Friday, June 3rd and will be on display there until Sunday, June 6, 10 - 4. Plein Air Painting Workshop - Santa Fe, NM with Niki Gulley

"High Road to Taos" ©2011 Niki Gulley SOLD • pastel • 14" x 11" On our last trip to New Mexico, we were enjoying the scenic route along the high road to Taos from Santa Fe, and marveling at the wide open vistas and beautiful rugged landscape when we came upon these lone sagebrush set against the dramatic white billowing clouds in the background, and we just had to paint and photograph it. Choosing pastels to capture the fleeting moment quickly, I got the scene blocked in just before the wind blew those beautiful clouds away, and the reason why plein air painting is so magical! Santa Fe is the muse of many famous artists and photographers, and that could be you, too! Join us for our Plein-Air Painting and Photography Workshop this August in Santa Fe, New Mexico. You will work at different picturesque locations, painting and (or) photographing scenes that inspired Georgia O’Keeffe and Ansel Adams. Santa Fe offers breathtaking vistas; sunny, dry weather, world class ...

Summer Smiles Sunflowers by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Summer Smiles Sunflowers by Nancy Medina Oil on Canvas 12X12 Shop in My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Summer Smiles is drying on the easel on a beautiful day in Flower Mound, Texas. This morning's chores included cleaning the porch, tossing the ball a few dozen times for the Studio Director, vacuuming approximately three pugs' worth of hair from the hardwood floors, and making critical "nap or no nap" decisions at mid-day. Hubby and I took a 5.5 miles walk along the bike paths and creek paths this morning, there was a nice, cool breeze and the Blackeyed Susans were in full bloom. I had to paint flowers when we returned, it seemed a sign, don't you think? You can see a photo of the flowers that inspired Summer Smiles on my art blog. I hope you have a relaxing weekend planned, with nothing more urgent to worry about than whether to add mint to your iced tea or have it straight up on ice! Happy holiday weekend from the pugs and I...

Dragonfly Dreams by Kay Wyne

Dragonfly Dreams 30" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas This abstract evolved after going through several different stages. When I first started this painting, I though I wanted to paint an abstract. Then at one point it was going to be a horizon series painting. You can see where the horizon line is...and then after putting some color on the the canvas, I saw a dragonfly and proceeded to incorporate that image along with some geometric shapes, lines and texture. I used brushes, palette knives and oil sticks on this painting. I like the shape and size of the canvas...thanks for viewing this blog! Have a great day on this Memorial Day. I will be in the studio painting away!

Farm Fresh

Farm Fresh 8 x 10 oil on canvas     This was my first painting of the Paint Historic Waxahachie Paintout. It was my quick draw painting. I just couldn't get motivated to paint buildings so I bought some produce at the Saturday farmers' market and set up a still life to paint. This worked great because I was pleased with the painting I did and tonight I've got dinner.     To see more of my art, please check my blog at douglasbclark.blogspot.com and my website at douglasbclark.com.

Sunflowers and Carrots by Sheri Jones

Sunflowers and Carrots by Sheri Jones 14x7 oil on canvas This was my victim during the quick draw event in Waxahachie. We painted on the count house square in conjunction with the Farmer's Market. They had fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, art and much more. I purchased the flowers and carrots and set up a still life. It didn't take long before the 40 mile per hour winds knocked this over. I tried weighing it down, propping things behind it, but it kept blowing over. I finally put it in the bushes. It didn't blow over any more, but it altered my still life. I stuck with the original plan and this was the result. O the joys of plein air painting! Spring Meadow

Spring Meadow 8 x 10 oil on canvas SOLD     I did this painting at the Paint Historic Waxahachie paintout. Most people did buildings and homes but I wanted more of a landscape so I found this field near the bike trails at the edge of town. It was a very windy and hot day. I dont know how hot it was in Waxahachie but in Fort Worth My parents said it got to 102. Very hot for May. Despite the heat I had a great time.     For more of my art check my blog at douglasbclark.blogspot.com or my website at douglasbclark.com

Splash Geraniums by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Splash Geraniums by Nancy Medina 8X10 Palette Knife/Oil on Linen Board Shop in My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Splash is a tribute to my beautiful niece, Robin, who graduated from high school last night. She is the only baby in our family, so this was a real celebration. I don't think I've ever been so proud in my whole life! Robin is such a level headed young lady, and has already got her sights on College, with the next four years mapped out. The first two years she'll attend junior college near her home, then the second two years she'll stay with Carlos and I and attend North Texas State University (which happens to have a great band program). She wants to become a pharmacist, or work in the biochemistry field. Can you imagine? Where did all those brains come from?

Passage of Illumination oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Passage of Illumination” ©2011 Niki Gulley 48” x 60” textured oil on canvas Wander down this path that beckons you and lift your eyes heavenward to that cobalt vault lined by a rainbow of vivid greens and golds and gleaming crimson, purposely choosing these warm vibrant colors to suggest a hopeful future. Like an ancient chorus these joyful trees sing with dazzling colors, a call and respond to each other across the enticing path that traces verses of light and dark, hue and color, an alluring siren song leading you into the depths of this radiant, vanishing horizon. A painting rich in color and light, joy and energy its double bowed composition gently leads gently you into this magical, blissful destination. Fly Sunflowerscape by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Fly Sunflowerscape by Nancy Medina 24X30 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Shop in My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Fly Sunflowerscape is a scene from my youth on a 20-acre organic farm in East Texas, a place that had red dirt roads and only five houses for 30 square miles. My family settled there in 1969, moving from St. Louis after my father's job at Western Union relocated him to their Texas office. While working full-time jobs, my parents decided to build their own dream of a working farm, planting acres of crops in their evening and weekend hours, with the help of an excellent and free labor force of four healthy daughters. I remember sitting in the dirt beneath rows of giant sunflowers, watching the sun stream through their petals. I always knew that as soon as I was old enough, I would fly away from that farm. But every moment I was away, I knew I would come back. Texas was home, because my family is here. I am lucky to have had such a journey, ...

I Grew Onions - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

I Grew Onions 8x10 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid. When my wife and I have the time and inclination, we love to drive to Dallas and go to the farmers market they have there. First off, it's huge! There are 3 sheds for produce,  a couple of flower and plant vendors and an indoor vending area. One of the produce sheds is reserved for local farmers, so this is our favorite place to go. Everything tastes and smells so good. It's hard to walk out there without armfuls of fresh produce. On our of our trips there, I noticed almost all the farmers have a little sign somewhere in their booth that says "I Grew" and then a blank spot for them to write in what ever they grew. Since I picked these onions from our garden this morning, I thought the title seemed appropriate. Tomorrow we are going to harvest the rest of our onion crop.   Now if we can just figure out how to properly cure them, we should have onions for good long while. Vi...

Self Portrait by Sheri Jones

Self Portrait by Sheri Jones 14 x 11 oil on canvas Daily Paint Works offers up weekly challenges and this is from the All About Me Challenge. This was a great way to get me out of my comfort zone. It's always a good learning experience too. There's not a cut off date and anyone can contribute to it anytime. Painting a self portrait is difficult and I wonder if you are ever really satisified with it. If anything it is good practice in portrait work. "Whispering Night" by Kyle Wood

"Whispering Night" - 16" x 20" Oil on Canvas For this painting, I chose to paint a night scene using a limited palette that I learned from a workshop a few years ago. The colors that I used here are: Titanium White mixed with a small amount of Yellow Ochre pale, Yellow Ochre Pale, Permanent Alizarin Crimson, and Windsor Green (also known as Thalo Green). Using these colors together created a nice, soft, and cool evening along the banks of a creek. To see more of my work, stop by my booth this Saturday, May 28th at The Clarksville Fine Art Festival in Clarksville, Texas . Clarksville is located Northeast of the Dallas / Ft. Bamboo with Vase - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Bamboo with Vase 7x5 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid. Shortly after my wife and I bought our house, we decided to put in a garden.  The previous owners had been growing low maintenance, but invasive bamboo, so we painstakingly dug it out and built raised beds over that area. We figured this would be a win- win for us since the raised vegetable garden would wipe out the bamboo, which has jumped it's edging and started to take over a large portion of the yard. For the last three or four years, our plan worked perfectly. This year, however, I've noticed a zombie bamboo shoot springing up just past where the garden is. Hmm... what to do? I like the look of the leaves and I think they would work well in my still life paintings, but I know if I let the plant go it will take over a large portion of the yard before I know it. For now and over Marcie's objections, I'm letting the plant grow minus the branches I chopped off for this pa...

New Textured Aspen Painting by Niki Gulley

“Enjoying the View” ©2011 Niki Gulley 48" x 30" textured oil on canvas Gentle hill and valley give way to a view triumphant; a view of steep, purple mountains crusted with snow, the soft morning light diffuses across the valley. Siren Song Sunflowers by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Siren Song Sunflowers by Nancy Medina 24X30 Gallery Wrap Canvas Shop in My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Siren Song Sunflowers was created while storms raced across North Texas. I was so busy painting I did not hear the tornado sirens, but caught the last few moments of a news cast where they said that a tornado had touched down here in Flower Mound. Someday I'm sure they will create a system where people are alerted in their homes, since the sirens can be very difficult to hear, even when you are paying attention. I always wonder about people with hearing challenges - how are they notified? The best thing still, it seems, is the good old fashioned local news program on TV. The internet never quite seems to keep up with the live coverage. Fortunately, we survived the storm tonight with just a bit more rain. What a strange spring it has been!

Heron Flats - Aransas National Wildlife Refuge - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Heron Flats - Aransas National Wildlife Refuge 9x12 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid. Last week, as a part of our yearly trip to the Texas Gulf Coast, my wife and I went to Aransas National Wildlife Refuge for the day. Even though it was extremely overcast, we had a wonderful time watching all the birds and wildlife. We tried out our new binoculars, which has opened whole new discussion on acquiring more powerful camera lenses. For the first time for both of us,we saw nine alligators in the wild. Luckily, most of them seemed to be content with soaking in the water or sunning themselves on the shore rather than bother us, but it was still a little unnerving to realize the only thing between you and the alligator was some tall grass along the shore. It had rained in the morning and stayed cloudy most of the day, which made for great weather to be outside. I took a few photographs of this spot called Heron Flats after spending a great deal of ti...

For Sale by Sheri Jones

For Sale by Sheri Jones 9x12 oil on Raymar canvas panel. I created this during the "Paint The Glen" paint out in Glen Rose, Texas. I set up in front of this very small park to paint. Crump park is squeezed in between two buildings and was built in honor of George Crump, a Somervell County Judge from 1980-1990. It is well maintained with beautiful plants and flowers. I liked the contrast between the blue building and the colorful flowers. I found Glen Rose to be very inspirational and would love to return soon. This painting sold. Bright Horizons Sunflowers by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Bright Horizons Sunflowers by Nancy Medina 16X20 Oil on Linen Board Shop in My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog It's been a busy week already, with three paintings packaged to ship, two paintings going to Australia, and one puggy coming home from the hospital today, doing better, thank goodness. Howard Pee Pugpants had a slight flareup of his pancreatitis, so first thing this morning he was whisked to the hospital for some IV fluids and for something he especially enjoys, attention from all the ladies there. Today was shadowing day at the vet, so students who wanted to learn more about becoming veterinarians were on hand to meet Mister Popularity at Main Street Vet in Flower Mound. Tonight my bad boy is home and safely snoring in dad's lap. And we are all breathing a sigh of relief. I hope wherever you are, you are safe and healthy, with your loved ones nearby.
