  This painting, "Rebirth", was inspired by a scene in an area near me that was in the process of change. I choose to look for the positive in most areas and so this painting was created to reflect the bloom of fresh colors overpowering the old and gray. The sense of a new beginning that was fresh with promise was the feeling I was hoping to portray.      “Sweeping Vista" ©2021 Niki Gulley 24” x 48" textured mixed media painting  on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges Inspired by a trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico, we were greeted by this gorgeous view of the rolling landscape and Chimayo in full bloom. Then, to top it off the sun was setting in the distance casting its golden glow and backlighting the wildflowers. I just had to capture that magical moment! Rhythmic waves  in the sky and along the hillsides create a harmonious scene that flows with light, texture and color.     “Fibonacci's Dream" ©2021 Niki Gulley 36” x 36" textured mixed media painting  on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges Once more the little kid in me sprang forth in this latest work of wonderment of gazing up into the treetops. I wanted to play off the colors so that your spirit feels like it is being lifted up to the heavens. The trees give you sense of being on the ground and having them spiral around you.    “Perspective Control" ©2021 Niki Gulley 24” x 12" textured mixed media painting  on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges I had my own little song of natures sounds as I was painting. It was a soothing melody of the water flowing in the stream, the leaves rustling in the trees, all backed up by a chorus of birds. Adding to the effect was the beautiful explosion of fall color that surrounded me, thereby putting me in the perfect frame of mind to create. This might have been one of the best years for the bluebonnets and wildflowers. The explosion of color along roadsides was incredible! This morning started out slightly overcast, and the sun kept peeking in and out of the clouds, creating a soft glow to everything it touched. I wanted to capture that magical light illuminating your journey on this Texas walking trail lined by bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of springtime with the wildflowers abloom in the Texas Hill Country!   Ok, I certainly took liberties when I painted these green trees with such vivid colors but I just had to! I was standing there and watched the sun's light bursting through the trees and just had to exaggerate the intensity of color in an effort to translate what I felt. There was such a peace and sense of security as the light bathed all in it's path in addition to an air of excitement as I sensed the moment was brief. I hope I captured that experience, a special time of day when all felt "right". A Splash of Light 12 x 16 oil on linen panel Sold Thank you to a new collector and  Dutch Art Gallery  for sending this one off to a new home.  This was a gift for a long lost loved one.  They connected and she brought gifts of geraniums. This painting will remind them of that first meeting.  I love it when a painting connects to someone in a meaningful way. They sent this photo to share. “Sunny Plateau" ©2021 Niki Gulley 30” x 48" textured mixed media painting  on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges On a visit to New Mexico, we were greeted to cheerful sunflowers blossoming, adding pops of joy and  sunshine to the desert scenery.  Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms and their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way. “Autumn Journey" ©2020 Niki Gulley SOLD • 30” x 20" textured oil painting Just sold!  Inspired by a trip to Colorado in the fall, trying to catch the beautiful autumn aspens leaves before they dropped, we just caught the last glimpse of color before an early snowfall hit. The combination of golden leaves set against the vivid blue sky, and the cool snow shadows contrasted against glowing light highlights as the sun cast its warming rays, was a symphony to the eye! I built up the composition by using multiple layers with a palette knife and some glazes. I have also thrown in a few pops of unexpected color to give the piece an extra element of movement.
