Local Vinyard by Sheri Jones

Local Vinyard by Sheri Jones 8 x 10 oil on canvas This was painted as a demo last night at D'vine Wine during the Last Friday Gallery night in Granbury. It was a fun evening with a DJ and karaoke going on the whole time. Some were good, some not so good, but still entertaining. This painting is available for purchase.

Trio de Rouge - Poppies by Nancy Medina

Trio de Rouge, Poppies by Nancy Medina 11X14 Oil on Linen Board Available in My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Trio de Rouge Poppies is a new painting drying on the easel in Flower Mound Studio. On Friday, a dear painty pal, Judy Mackey , and I will head out to the Dallas Arboretum to paint plein air. Painting outdoors can be a real eye opener to the little things mother nature hides from all but the most observant. While painting these poppies one morning plein air, I heard a "pop!" and there was a little poppy egg, freshly hatched, lying at the base of a newly unfurled bright orange bloom. I captured a photo of it for you on my art blog today . I'll bet there is an interesting scientific name for this but I love the idea of poppies hatching from eggs, don't you? I promise to share photos from our exciting plein air adventure on Friday on my blog, so stay tuned! I'll be the lady in a goofy hat with paint on her nose.

Transitional Tones oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Transitional Tones” ©2010 Niki Gulley 12” x 12” oil on canvas I created these birch trees with palette knife and extremely thick oil paint to achieve texture and suggest the energy found in nature. The image is painted around the sides of the 1.5 inch deep gallery wrap canvas so that it looks three-dimensional and can be hung as is without a frame for a contemporary look. These chunky birch paintings look great in pairs and threes. See NikiGulley.com for companion paintings or stop by my painting booth this weekend in Chicago at the Lincoln Park Arts & Music Festival to see more of my textured palette knife paintings in person. For more details, go to chicagoevents.com/event.cfm?eid=189. Or, e-mail me at Niki@NikiGulley.com with any questions or comments.

Fleeing Storms - Thaw Malin iii

"Fleeing Storms", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel. This was a short and quick painting session. Short because I got there while the sky was rolling out the colors, but right at sunset. Quick because after 25 minutes it became hard to choose my pigments and the recent rains brought out all the mosquitos and then some. I never packed up faster and ran to my van... If you'd like to purchase, please click Go to my Auction, bidding starts at $100.00 US. Subscribe to my "New Paintings" mailing list. Butternut Glow - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Butternut Glow 5x7 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara I have to admit I was pretty amazed when I cut this open to see the wonderful color inside. I knew when I saw it that I wanted to paint it. After struggling with the arrangement for a while I settled on this. I think I was being a little timid with cutting up the squash, which limited me to what I could do with it. After all, I couldn't put it back together if I made a mistake. When I was done painting, I gave the squash to my wife since she wanted to cook it, and then cleaned up the studio a bit. When I went out to the kitchen, I noticed how nice the arrangement was my wife had made on the cutting board. "I've got to get another one these and try this again", was the first thought to run through my head, which was then followed by my best Homer Simpson "Doh!" As Time Goes By - Geranium Still Life by Nancy Medina

As Time Goes By Geraniums by Nancy Medina 12X10 Oil on Linen Board Available in My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog As Time Goes By, Geraniums, is a new oil painting drying on the easel this evening in Flower Mound Studio. I received a note from a client this evening who had purchased one of my large sunflower paintings for his wife for their 40th wedding anniversary. They received the framed painting in the mail today and were delighted with it, and said at first they were a bit nervous buying art online, because they had never done so before. Now, he said, they were very glad they did. What an honor that a painting I created will commemorate such an important event in their lives. I hope it gives them years of smiles.

Meme's Chick - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Meme's Chick 5x7 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara This little red is one of the dozen or so laying hens my wife's grandmother (Meme) is raising this year. They are very entertaining to watch. I spent about an hour in the pen photographing them. Obviously painting them from life would be a little harder than I was up for, especially for the first attempt. I think if I do a few more, I may be comfortable enough to try them from life, but for now, my photos will have to do. Opening, Mudflats - Thaw Malin iii

"Opening, Mudflats", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel. Not only had the pond just been opened to the sea, but a call from a painter friend had encouraged me to come enjoy some new views. The Land Bank, which owns this property, mowed the field along the edge of the Great Pond to keep invasive species at bay. Usually this is done at the beginning of spring, not mid summer. Now some of my favorite fall grasses will be stunted and not really ripe to paint. But right now I may walk all over this mowed poison ivy area where I never would have done this time of season. This has opened up vistas never contemplated. It has also riled up all the ticks which had been happily going about their business at the ends of long grass stems, a few of which have made it back to my studio... Painted Tin - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Painted Tin 5x7 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara I'm very happy to report that this is daily painting number 100 this year! I'm now officially half way to my goal for 2010. As for tonight's painting, this tin is the other item I picked up last weekend (see yesterday's post). I painted a bit more of the detail than the one I did yesterday, mostly because I felt the painting needed it, though, honestly, these details also very hard to resist. After all, it's the patterns in it that prompted me to buy it in the first place. I also took another shot at painting the carnations since they were still fresh. This time I added some dark red ones, which I enjoyed because it allowed me to use stronger, purer colors. Carnations - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Carnations 3x5 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara Over the weekend my wife and I went to a few garage sales to see what type of still life subjects we could find. The picking were pretty slim, but we did find this little vase. For this painting, I simplified the design since I wanted to work on the shape. I'll save a more detailed painting for another time. We had a few carnations around the house, so I added those and then got to painting. I've been keeping a very loose count of my daily paintings, and, according to that count, this is daily painting number 99. I need to double check to be sure, but I've very excited to be just about at the half way point for my goal this year. Tomorrow's Promises oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Tomorrow's Promises" ©2010 Niki Gulley oil on canvas • 48" x 60" I wanted you to feel the joy and peacefulness of walking through a protective cathedral of branches on a beautiful autumn day. Bella Blanco - Geranium Still Life by Nancy Medina

Bella Blanco - Geraniums by Nancy Medina 8X10 Oil on Canvas Available in My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog It's been a busy weekend in Flower Mound Studio, celebrating the hubby's birthday and coming home to a neighborhood with no electricity last night. It was an interesting way to learn that we could not get into the house, because we had no key to the storm door or the back door, and the garage opened only with the use of electricity. After a few hours in the dark getting acquainted with the mosquitoes, the CoServ folks were there to save the day, or the eve. The pugs were quite glad we had decided to stop all that pointless puttering around outside instead of being indoors with them, where we belonged. Hats off to all those hard working people who come out in the heat, cold, and awful weather and at any time of the day, just because it's their job. They sure are tougher than I am! Asters - Thaw Malin iii

"Asters", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel. A rainy afternoon, evening painting from the van. The sky held back until close to dark when it ripped. I barely got the window cracks closed. The wind was from the best direction to show this boat in profile. I've been scouting it for 2 months and nothing was a go before. Light or wind or traffic, something was never right... If you'd like to purchase, please click Go to my Auction, bidding starts at $100.00 US. Subscribe to my "New Paintings" mailing list. Poppy Path by Nancy Medina

Poppy Path by Nancy Medina 12X10 Oil on Museum Quality Linen Board Available in My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Poppy Path is a painting in palette knife and oil drying in Flower Mound Studio this evening. It's been a very busy week, with a new foster pug coming to stay for a while, unpacking from a recent trip, and getting caught up on tossing the ball for Studio Director AnnieBelly. Today a friend recommended the "sock monkey beds" in Walgreens. I raced to the nearest Walgreens to procure one for my first in command, and they were out. All was not lost, however, since the puppy dog beds were nice, fluffy, and also on sale. The picture on my blog today sums up Annie's reaction to her latest acquisition.

Golden Moments by Emily Leland

Golden Moments by Emily Leland I grew up in New Mexico with wide open spaces always surrounding me that seem to continually draw me to paint spaces and the depth of it. Looking onto the hillsides surrounding Fredericksburg today I am captured by the beauty in these moments looking outward. On this particular occasion, an afternoon sunset without the reds and oranges but just a brilliant gold. Sometimes you can rush out there to paint a sunset hoping for burst of color and it happens in a different way. But isn't that life. Oil on Wrapped canvas 24"X48" See http://www.emilyleland.com

Purple Promise Sunflowers by Nancy Medina

Purple Promise Sunflowers by Nancy Medina 10X8 Oil on Museum Quality Linen Board Available in My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Purple Promise Sunflowers is a new work drying on the easel this evening. I spent the past few days reacquainting myself with my pochade box, plein air painting. It is pretty remarkable what you can see in a flower outdoors, in the sun, that you cannot detect in a photograph, even on a 52-inch color Hans G screen. I'm looking forward to the fall when painting outdoors will not be an exercise in surviving the heat. In the meantime, I've got my trusty, goofy hat to keep me safe from the sun.

I work a full time job, so I cannot give all my time to pug rescue. But I have a few hours a week I can contribute. I hope that if you have a heart filled with love for animals, you can find a way to share, even if it is a small gift, for your favorite animal rescue. Autumn Symphony pastel by Niki Gulley

“Autumn Symphony” ©2010 Niki Gulley Pastel • 24” x 36” This is a quiet, protected creek by our house that I like escaping to when I need a break from city life. Sliced Apple - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Sliced Apple 3x5 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara One of the appeals of oil painting for me is the option to use a painting knife, which allows for a very thick application of the paint and strong edges. It also lend itself to some very interesting color blending since the knife can blend the colors as you're painting with it. I just got a new set and wanted to test them out. They looked so shiny and clean sitting next to my pallet and I knew I couldn't leave them like that! While normally I believe you should use the correct tool for the job at hand, I really wanted to practice with my new knifes. I did almost this entire painting with them. I used a few brush strokes in the end to clean up a few of the edges and correct a little drawing here and there, but that's about it.
