Hunter Park by Sheri Jones

Hunter Park by Sheri Jones 9 x 12 oil on raymar canvas panel I painted this plein air from the banks of Lake Granbury this week. This was my 4th painting from this location. I was inspired by the golden cattails and nice fall colors. I found a painting at every turn. This painting is available for purchase. $125.00 Sheri@sheriart.net sheriart.net sheriart.blogspot.com

Wandering Rose by Nancy Medina

Wandering Rose by Nancy Medina 11X14 Oil on Linen Board Buy Now Nancy Medina Web Site It was a really nice day in Flower Mound, Texas, today, a slight breeze, cool but brilliantly sunny. I dabbled in the studio, finishing up Wandering Rose, and then spent some time tossing the ball for the Studio Director, AnnieBee. These are the days I wish could go on and on forever. Howard Pee Pugpants was sleepy today, but still managed to amble outside. I hope you have a nice weekend ahead, with sunshine and little ones underfoot to keep you on course!

Morning Rain - Abstract Modern Art Contemporary Painting by Texas Artist Filomena Booth

Morning Rain 24"x30"x1.5" Acrylic on canvas This is one of those paintings that was painted over several other starts.  It is very subtle but there's a lot of texture that doesn't quite show up in this picture.  Sgraffito and calligraphic elements were added to create more detail and interest.   Please   visit my website  to see more of my original abstract paintings. Big Apple - Melinda Patrick

© 2010 Melinda Patrick Big Apple - 12" x 12" acrylic on canvas Of course this would be the Texas version of Big Apple. Just a big apple. I haven't painted a still life in awhile but they are a lot of fun to paint. I get bogged down looking for things interesting enough to paint. I found these things in the kitchen. See this one in person at Houston Artcrawl on November 20. I'll be at the Erie City Ironworks building at 1302 Nance Street. To see more go to my website .

"Teal Mug & Lemon" Original Oil by Gwen Bell

I tried it in front but it interfered with the reflected pattern on the cup. Available through The Dutch Art Gallery during the Artists of Texas Show Where Texas Finds Its Color. This one is pretty wild I know, but I loved the challenge of the very strong colors and lots of movement. I sold this one in Mexico during my solo show down there.

Smiles and Daisies by Nancy Medina

Smiles and Daisies by Nancy Medina 8X10 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas SOLD Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Smiles and Daisies is drying on the easel as I peruse the interesting classes being offered in Fredericksburg this winter. Shall I paint pet portraits? Learn to paint out of doors in frigid temps? Pay a model fee - wait, a model fee?? This is why I love flowers. They don't wiggle. They don't have to remove piercings before each sitting. The little daisies who posed for this painting were $2.50 a bundle at the Piggley Wiggley this afternoon. Give them a little water and they're happy. One of them even laid next to the paint, reclining beautifully upon command and sitting perfectly still for hours. Visit my blog to meet my lovely models. I do wish, though, they would last all winter!

Grape Leaves with Fruit - Originial Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Grape Leaves with Fruit 5x3 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara First off, let me apologize for the title of this one. It's not very original or catchy, but it's the best I could come up with tonight. I really wanted to challenge myself today by practicing painting very small and detailed by placing a lot of objects into the still life.  The goal is to get simple shapes of color with the largest brush I could get away with.  By going with a small canvas, it made all of my brushes a size or two larger by comparison. To read more about this painting please visit my blog. http://georgedechiara.com/blog Visit my web site to see more of my work. http://georgedechiara.com If you would like to purchase this painting visit my auction here .

Hunter Park View by Sheri Jones

Summer Aspens oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Summer Aspens" ©2010 Niki Gulley 12" x 12" oil on canvas I painted these summer aspen trees with palette knife and extremely thick paint. I love how the chunky paint adds to the texture of the bark and the movement in the leaves, and how the painting continues around the edges of the wrap around canvas for a sculptural-like frameless piece of art. Saving Grace Sunflowers by Nancy Medina

Saving Grace Sunflowers by Nancy Medina 16X20 Oil on Linen Board Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog Saving Grace Sunflowers has been percolating in a state close to finished for over a month. I finished it today, brightening the shadows with a mixture of viridian and transparent oxide red, and then adding in some deep shadowed greenery into the wet background. I wear a few hats, just so life stays interesting, and one of them is for pug rescue. A little pug in Southlake, Texas, escaped out an open gate 2 days ago. He had surgery a week ago, and his family was frantic all night searching for him. This morning, he was found safe and sound. This painting is a bit of a thank you note to the angels who brought Rocky home, to his family, where he belongs.

Lake Weatherford Boat Docks - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Lake Weatherford Boat Dock 5x7 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara My wife works in Weatherford, an up-and-coming little burg just outside of the metroplex. For most of it's life, Weatherford has been a town that served the ranches that surround it.  You can't stop progress though and slowly, but surely, this place seems like it is on the verge of being swallowed by DFW.  So this morning I joined Marcie for the ride to work intent on painting the rural sights before they all get developed away.  After dropping her off at the college and looking at different areas, I finally settled on Lake Weatherford to paint this view of some of the private boat docks. There's a little curve in the lake where the land goes out a bit and offers this view of these docks. This little spot is public access to the lake, so I was able to set up there and have a great view. I even had a large tree to give me some shade while I painted, so what more could you ask for?...

Lakeside Cattails by Sheri Jones

Lakeside Cattails by Sheri Jones 9 x 12 oil on raymar canvas panels This was my second painting of the day at Hunter Park on Lake Granbury. The light was making the cattails and grass just golden. I loved the color contrast between the grass and water. It was a such a treat to be outside painting. Sharon Hodges: Red-Gold Still Life, 30x24

OK, loved painting this still life.....and definitely need to paint more of them. Sometimes I think that the still life genre sounds so very boring, but honestly, I just loved doing this. I realize that the 'real' items are more 'still' than my brush work, but it is the brush work that brings it to life for me. If you have interest in this painting, contact me . Peaches and Plums - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Peaches and Plums 8x10 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara  This isn't what I set out to paint today. I was really in the mood to do a landscape, so I packed up the car with all of my painting supplies and headed out to a spot that I thought would be good for painting. After driving around for an hour looking at different places, I didn't find anything that really struck me so I headed home. I found this bowl of fruit sitting on the kitchen counter that I was playing around with last night and decided to paint it instead. I'm not sure how they managed to grow peaches so large, but these are almost the size of a softball. I prefer the both the look and taste of smaller ones because they seem more natural, but these are what were at the store this week. In order to keep them from looking disproportionate to the plum, I shrunk their size a little, making them a touch smaller then they are in real life. Along the Shore - Original Oil Painting by George De Chiara

Along the Shore 5x7 inches Oil on Canvas Panel by George De Chiara This is the last painting in the current commission I'm working on. I've really enjoyed working on this commission. It gave me the opportunity to paint some things that I haven't used a lot in my other still life paintings, like money, branches, and foliage, which I can't wait to use in future paintings.  Unexpectedly, I found there is something I really enjoy about painting money. It reminds me of collecting coins as a kid. I still remember the thrill of finding a special coin mixed in with my change from the day, like a silver quarter or a wheat penny and running off to add it to my collection. It's a wonderful thing when I can spend an afternoon painting and be reminded of what it's like to be 12 again. Dilemma - Original Abstract Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Dilemma 24"x30"x.75" Acrylic on canvas Sold I've been going through a bit of an artist's "block" recently, but I guess that's pretty normal after an intense period of painting nearly every day.  Sometimes we just need a break away from the studio.  Anyway, this "dry spell" has also taken caused me to not blog as often as I should.  So, here I am...back again. I decided to go through some paintings that I've sold in the last year, hoping for inspiration.  I came across "Dilemma" and remembered specifically how much I enjoyed working on this painting.  It was actually a reworked painting over another that just didn't work for me.  I've learned that no painting is ever completely a failure, it just may need a "break" for a while...just like I do now.   Visit my website  to see my portfolio of original abstract paintings. A Safe Place - Flower Garden by Nancy Medina

A Safe Place - Flower Garden by Nancy Medina 16X20 Oil on Linen Board My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog A Safe Place Flower Garden is my dream green house, situated in the back yard of my dream English cottage on my dream 10-acre New England farm. And, yes, it's all in my dreams. I've been moving my art more toward floral-scapes lately, a combination of colorful flower pots in landscapes where I wish I could be. Just outside the door of this hothouse are giant lilac bushes and a couple of wicker chairs with beautiful cushions, a pot of hot tea and a pitcher of cold creme, and a few fat little pugs to run through the grass while I sit. Sunflower oil painting by Niki Gulley

This is a little dyptich that I tried. I am not much of an abstract artist but it can be fun once in a while. My camera is having some download issues so it has been a while since I've posted. So sorry. I love blogging and posting but it is a challenge when equipment fails. Hope you've enjoyed my quick deviation from my usual and will be patient until I can solve this problem.

Stormy Weather Sunflowers by Nancy Medina

Stormy Weather Sunflowers by Nancy Medina 12X10 Oil on Linen Board Available in My Daily Painters Gallery Nancy Medina Web Site Nancy Medina Art Blog It was a stormy Saturday in Flower Mound, and when the tornado sirens went off, the puggy assistants and I found shelter in an interior room with beds, blankets, the IPhone, and a small bowl of dog treats. That last was the stave off potential starvation in case our stay lasted more than 10 minutes. The evening has closed with one of those beautiful golden sunsets. The TV is running in the front room, where Carlos has Howie on a pillow in his lap, and the other pugs are in a pile snoring happily. I can't imagine a more perfect way to end a Saturday afternoon. I hope yours has been just as interesting!

INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS DAY

14x11 Oil on Canvas Painted after Amedeo Modigliani "Jeanne Hebutern in a Large Hat" Tomorrow is International Artists Day. To celebrate I am featuring an artist that I admire, Amedeo Modigliani. He was an Italian artist born in 1884 and died in 1920 of tuberculosis. If you are not familiar with his work he painted elongated faces and necks. In his short life he completed many paintings, sculpture and works on paper. He led an interesting life and if you enjoy reading biographies I recommend Modigliani and The Artists of Montparnasse by Kenneth Wayne. I posted this today because tomorrow I don't know if I will have wifi for my computer. Take some time tomorrow and visit The Daily Painters International Art Gallery and view what other artists are doing to celebrate. Click HERE to visit Linda Popple's Blog and see more of her work.

Suspenders

This is a backview of Albert Handell a pastel artist and teacher of some renown here in the States. He was at the Pastel Convention looking in a workshop when I snapped this shot of him. He has no idea I took it. The background is a painting I saw at the Blanton here in Austin, I thought the trapeze artist and the suspenders Albert was wearing made for a cute title. I will often use a figure out of context, photos I take in coffee shops etc, but place the subjects (in my paintings) at a museum or beach, just for grins.
