Lutheran Church Window Watercolor by Nathalie Kelley

My good friend, Renee has moved a long way from home (home being West Texas). One of the first things she did in her new "land" was to seek out a place to worship,  which can be like trying to find a new family . Along the way she took a few pictures  of some great, perfectly aged churches.  When I saw her photos on her blog I asked if I could paint this great window. The window nor the building is the important thing. The important thing is worship and the freedom to gather with others to worship. My Blog My Website

Nature's Color by Sheri Jones

Nature's Color by Sheri Jones 10x 8 oil on canvas I painted this on location in Granbury off Hwy 144. The sumac bushes were what caught my eye. The sun was out and it warmed up to a lovely 70 degrees. I used a palette knife to paint this. It is available for purchase and would make a great Christmas gift. $100.00 Sheri@sheriart.net http://www.sheriart.net/ http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com/ I have paintings showing this month at: Granbury's Visitor Center, Granbury, Texas (Show ends 11/30/2011) Miniture Show, LGAA-Shanley House, Granbury, Texas Dutch Art Gallery, Dallas, Texas *** I will be there doing a painting demo on Saturday, December 3, 2011 - 11 a - 4 p I would love to see you there. "Fire and Gold" birch tree oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Fire and Gold" ©2011 Niki Gulley oil on canvas • 36" x 48" I used to love it as a kid, growing up in the midwest, when my family would go hiking in the woods – especially in fall. The crisp feel in the air, the crunching of leaves underfoot and the beautiful autumn colors, along with spending time with my mom and dad were special times. In Fire and Gold I wanted to recreate those warm memories, choosing reds and yellows of autumn to heighten those happy feelings and using energetic strokes with my paint reminiscent of a carefree, simpler time. Building up thin transparent layers of oil paint also add to a certain glow and magic in the final piece. E-mail me at Niki@NikiGulley.com for more information. Ice Cream Sundae White Rose Painting by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Ice Cream Sundae White Roses by Nancy Medina 8X10 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Ice Cream Sundae White Roses is a new painting in Flower Mound Studio, it was a little holiday project away from the large rooster painting that is under construction. I was in the mood for something lite! As promised, I've posted another step from the 24X30 rooster painting I shared with you yesterday on my art blog. This is step three of the rooster painting - and I am going to call this one Aperitif. It's is a scene straight out of my childhood on the farm. My parents grew giant sunflowers to attract the insects off the vegetable crops in their organic garden. We also raised our own chickens and pigs. Guess whose job it was to feed the pigs? I'll give you one guess...

Blue Vase by Kay Wyne

Blue Vase 24" x 24" Oil on Canvas This palette knife painting is loose and colorful. I used the knife on most of the painting, so there is some texture and thickness to the paint. I also used oil sticks in the background. This painting needs a frame and a new home. If you are interested in this painting, or any of my art, please contact me. Thanks for looking! Country Church / Upper Peninsula, Michigan by Martie Rains

Country Church / Upper Peninsula, Michigan 9x12 oil on canvas www.martierains.com martierains@sbcglobal.net Facebook       This painting was introduced in August when we returned from our trip around Lake Superior. As we stopped in a small country town for gas, I noticed the morning shadows made from the tall trees that surrounded this tiny church. After taking several shots, I painted the scene the next day. WOLF by Carol Peterson

WOLF by Carol Peterson ( carolpeterson@suddenlink.net ) 7" x 5" acrylic $90 framed This painting was done on a mat board painted with pyrrole orange. I love the way the orange glows through any paintings on it. In this case I left the whole background orange. We vacation in Northern Minnesota each summer and see wolves at the side of the road occasionally. This part of the country has never been without wolves. You can hear them howl at night.

"Ivory Refrain" textured aspen oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Ivory Refrain” ©2011 Niki Gulley 24” x 30” textured oil on canvas Scrolling bark peels back like white washed parchment revealing secrets in the deeply textured wood below. A painting of grace and beauty, it’s verticality offset by embracing branches wound round as a sheltering arm. Each stroke is crisp, vivid, defined by thick textured oil, rich colors strike a reververberating chord – purple and the compliment of gold create a visual vibration that resonates in an optical song. To see more of my aspen and birch tree oil paintings, please visit my website at  NikiGulley.com . E-mail Niki Gulley for more information.

Sunrise Sunflowers by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Sunrise Sunflowers by Nancy Medina 11X14 Oil on Linen Board Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site It's been a busy weekend in Flower Mound Studio, with one large sunflower commission finished, a hydrangea commission under construction, and a call from a gallery requesting a new garden painting in some holiday colors. If you've been following the bloggy, you've seen I got sidetracked by some chickens this week. All these chicken and rooster paintings have reminded me so much of my childhood on the farm. I started a new rooster this morning (I usually have two or three paintings going at the same time...I'm sure there is a medication for this condition), and you can see the little guy under construction on my art blog . I promise I'm aware he has no feet, he is standing almost knee deep in grass and weeds. Stay tuned to my art blog for more!

Sumac Bushes by Sheri Jones

Sumac Bushes by Sheri Jones 9x12 oil on canvas The forecast for Wednesday was temperatures in the seventies with calm winds. When I heard that I scheduled a day off work. I was not disappointed. I have passed this spot daily and thought I could find something here to paint. The sumac bushes appeared to be glowing in the morning sun. It was a good spot and a great morning. I painted this with a #28 Galleria (1 1/4" wide). It was a challenge on such a small canvas. This is available for purchase. $125.00 Sheri@sheriart.net http://www.sheriart.net/ http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com/ I have paintings showing this month at: Granbury's Visitor Center, Granbury, Texas (Show ends 11/30/2011) Miniture Show, LGAA-Shanley House, Granbury, Texas Dutch Art Gallery, Dallas, Texas *** I will be there doing a painting demo on Saturday, December 3, 2011 - 11 a - 4 p I would love to see you there. Horizon Series: Abstract Aspens #1111 by Kay Wyne

Horizon Series: Abstract Aspens #1111 This contemporary palette knife painting has layers and layers of color and texture. I started with a base coat of warm gray on sides and front of canvas. After putting my horizon line in, I used oil sticks and brush to apply color. Using the palette knife, I started putting trees in from the horizon line. I wanted more violets, blues and grays to dominate on the canvas. The crimson, burnt orange and turquoise bounce off the cool colors, giving the piece some contrast. The canvas is 36" x 48", and is ready to hang...no fame needed on the gallery wrap canvas. Thanks for viewing this blog and my art.....Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com

Farm Queen - Chicken Painting by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Farm Queen by Nancy Medina 12X12 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Farm Queen is a companion painting to Little Man - Rooster. I'm on a chicken roll this week, I think the holidays are bringing back memories of my childhood. When I was driving home from Mom's yesterday, I saw a highway sign not far from her house that said This 2 Miles Adopted by the FFA. The Future Farmers of America. When I was in school, the girls took Future Homemakers of America, the boys took Future Farmers of America classes. Are these classes still offered? I wonder.

No Boundaries by Kay Wyne

No Boundaries 20" x 60" Oil on Linen Gallery Wrap I love the linen showing through on this contemporary aspen painting. When I started painting, I wanted the viewer to be able to see the linen. The natural linen is warm and rich in color. I used a wide, flat brush and the palette knife to apply the oils. The 80" high canvas would look great on a vertical space with a high ceiling...it is ready to ship to the gallery in Santa Fe. Thanks for viewing this blog...Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com.

Foggy Fall Morning by Sheri Jones

Foggy Fall Morning by Sheri Jones 9x12 oil on canvas This was my second attempt at a painting in the fog. It was too thick at my first stop and I ended up with a wiper. I drove up the hill and found this spot. The sun was trying to burn the clouds away, but the fog stayed around a long time. I challenged myself by using a larger brush on this one. I used a #28 Galleria, that is 1 1/4 of an inch wide. This is available for purchase. $125.00 Sheri@sheriart.net http://www.sheriart.net/ http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com/

Little Man ~ Rooster Painting and Growing Up on an Organic Farm by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Little Man ~ Rooster by Nancy Medina 12X12 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Nancy Medina Web Site Little Man ~ Rooster, is a new painting drying on the easel in Flower Mound Studio. I've been wanting to paint chickens for weeks, they are as colorful as flowers and just as unpredictable. We had fresh eggs from the chickens we raised growing up. My Dad named our little farm The Briar Patch and each of us girls was assigned certain chores, and each had a different animal to take care of. The chickens lived in a little A-framed coop surrounded (aptly) by a pen of chicken wire. Every morning we would gather warm brown eggs from the coop, they were large and sometimes there would be double yolkers. The egg yolks were a deep, warm yellow color, nothing like the watery yellow of store-bought eggs. I'd like to tell you that life on the farm was glamorous and chickens were cuddley, but neither of those statements were true. What was true was that I would not change my childhood for anything, g...

"Eye Candy Series"-#3/ Candy Corn, oil painting by Vonnie Kohn, Thanksgiving, small works

"Eye Candy Series, # 3/ Candy Corn" 4 x 4" Gallery wrap (no frame needed) $ 50 Thanksgiving is upon us! In the United States we celebrate this  time of year when our forefathers celebrated their first year at Plymouth, Massachusetts during the 1600's with a time of Thanksgiving. There is a story in which food was so scarce that most days the Pilgrims only had a daily ration of 5 kernels of corn apiece.  The Pilgrims, refusing to give in to despair chose to trust in God, regardless of their circumstances. They considered these kernels of corn as a blessing . I chose to depict " Candy Corn " as commemorative of the stedfastness of our forefathers during this Thanksgiving season...let US be thankful! If interested, please contact me at: www.vonniekohn.com vkohnartist@aol.com Thank you for stopping by!

ANTIQUE INDIAN by Carol Peterson

ANTIQUE INDIAN by Carol Peterson ( carolpeterson@suddenlink.net ) 11" x 15" watercolor and watersoluble pen SOLD This image was done on stamped, collaged, gessoed, etc. paper .  The image is based on an old photo from the nineteenth century.  The image was changed somewhat to make it work on this paper.  Some of the old indian photos are amazing with their strong, silent faces.  I used tombow pens for most of the image.

Fireglow

Recently here in Texas, we experienced the worst wildfire disaster in history. Many people lost everything. This painting is born completely from the raw feelings and aftermath of this tragedy. As an Australian, I am not new to wildfires, and have to say for something so terrifying in the moment, as a lowly artist I felt I had to try and record the beauty and awe of NATURE in all her glory. This is a 24 x 48" oil, on gallery wrap canvas. It will be on display in The Group of Four Show at the Round Rock Artspace during from November 30th through the month of December. Please drop by and see this and other pieces of mine, I would love to see you there. Acrylic Mixed Media Textured Red Contemporary Abstract Painting by Texas Daily Painter Nancy Standlee

A Season of Celebration 24x24x1.5  acrylic mixed media abstract painting on gallery wrapped canvas  Closeup Closeup In October about 18 of us enjoyed an abstract workshop in Granbury TX with Denton's Carolyn Riegelman. Check my blog pos t HERE to read more about the workshop. Now I've got some Canvas by Canvas friends who are wanting a "texture day" workshop so out to buy more Venetian Plaster and more paint. What fun.  I love red paintings and they just remind me of Christmas, birthdays and happy celebrations.  If you look closely you will see the painting is not signed on the front so the owner can hang it in several ways. I did not put hanging hardware on it for the same reason and it can be hung over two nails in the wall and will fit flush up against the wall. Available at my gallery at Daily Paintworks. Dutch Barns - An original oil painting by George De Chiara

Dutch Barns 9x12 inches Oil on Linen Panel by George De Chiara Click here to bid. To get this painting, I actually used two different reference photos that I took somewhere in the Midwest many years ago. I liked the landscape in one of the images and the building structures in the other. That is one of the few advantages to working from photographs. If I had painted this from life I would have had to choose between the barns or the landscape I liked, but probably wouldn't have been able to use both. I took a lot of photo reference over the years, and, for all I know, the two I used could have been hundreds of miles away from each other. I can't remember exactly where these barns are located any longer, but I think they are along the Illinois/Wisconsin border. To see more of my paintings visit my web site here .

Amy Hillenbrand Snugly Cuddly and Warm

Snugly Cuddly and Warm © 2011 Amy Hillenbrand 6 x 6 oil on board $100.00 + shipping   Aren't these adorable little baby moccasin slippers? I really love how these turned out.  A little background info on these: my sister and cousin and I were all flying through a store to find something (not shoes) and out of the corner of my eye I saw these cute little slippers.  We quickly found a blue towel in the home-goods section of the store and propped them up for their photo shoot.  My sister and I worked on the photo shoot as my cousin stood guard for us, in case a store employee got their feathers ruffled.    I often wonder what makes a good painting: the subject, the colors, the composition, the reference photo, the brush strokes? or is it the joy you have in your heart when you are painting it? hmmmm, what do you think?   visit my website visit my blog

In the footsteps of Paul by Martie Rains

Ephesus Steps 8x10 oil on canvas www.martierains.com martierains@sbcglobal.net Facebook       Last July, I wrote about the remarkable Roman ruins in Ephesus, Turkey. This ancient city is not only the site of an advanced civilization, but one of the many places where St.Paul evangelized, spreading Christianity among the Gentiles. I was fortunate to be able to visit Ephesus and walk along the same marble streets as Paul when he preached the word of Christ to the Ephesians. Another holy site near Ephesus is The House of the Virgin . It is believed that the Virgin Mary traveled with St. John to Ephesus to live out her life after the Resurrection of Christ. The House of the Virgin is a popular pilgrimage site for Christians and Muslims alike. You may purchase "Ephesus Steps" at a special Christmas price by clicking here . Layaway available. DROOPY by Carol Peterson

DROOPY by Carol Peterson ( carolpeterson@suddenlink.net ) water soluble oil experiment 12" x 9" I took a watersoluble oil workshop recently.  Most of our paintings were done in a traditionally oil technique.  I decided to try the media on watercolor paper.  I put down a soft underpainting and applied salt.  The effect was similar to what I would have gotten with watercolor.  Then I used some negative painting to pull out the droopy flowers.  I also tried putting saran wrap on another underpainting but did not get the expected watercolor effect.

"Colorful Transformation" ©2011 by Niki Gulley textured oil painting • 36" x 48" Now showing at American Fine Art Gallery in Dallas, in Colorful Transformation, I wanted to focus on brilliant color and simple shapes to see if I could communicate the excitement I feel when surrounded by nature. Fleeting Moments Hydrangeas by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Fleeting Moments Hydrangeas by Nancy Medina 16X20 Oil on Linen Board Purchase Information Nancy Medina Web Site Fleeting Moments Hydrangeas is a new take on an old painting, that got a bit of holiday polish this evening in Flower Mound Studio. I boosted the greens and added some purple and blue petals to a previously rather flat looking set of white hydrangeas. I also added some tiny black seeds to my watermelon, because, for some reason, black seeds just look better on a red watermelon than white seeds. The house is all clean and ready for Thanksgiving festivities next week, and I just got back from a visit to mom's house last night. She is doing well on her new medication for her breathing, and seemed really happy. She pulled a chair up to me at the kitchen table and put her arms around me and told me she "loved her Nan." This time last year, we were gathered around her hospital bed, and Dr. Glick had told us things did not look good. She pulled through. My mom is one s...
